You need to broaden your musical library.

Seriously how many rap "songs" can you listen to before it all blends together? 3? 4?

I have 8, count them 8, Alternative Genius mixes. However, each mix seems to have a subtheme. One seems pretty dark, another is mostly experimental, another is ambient. It's pretty cool that it knows each subgenre even though they're just tagged as alternative.

Why do people always need to attack someone's taste in music? How does what I listen to affect you in any way?

As far as the genius mixes the artists seem to be pretty mixed. Dunno where apple gets their playlist info but they need some work

Maybe it has something to do with how my music is tagged. I don't really put any info into the genre part, except occasionally east or west coast if it fits.

I am really impressed by this feature it works very well for me, I also will not that it doesnt depend on your genre tagged to the song, I have songs i have classified "punk", "rock" and "alternative" in my alternative quick mix. However is seems to group each subset of the genre together, pretty cool stuff.

I tried stopping and starting genius, updating it, restarting iTunes, and still, nothing. I really wanted to access this feature... is there something I've done wrong?

clearly it has a lot of bugs! and in itunes, the mixes are not perfect, not even near! he mixes songs with very different styles, hard rock with pop and others. has someone said, itunes ignores your local definition of music genre, which sometimes is bad. if you try forcing localy a music genre it will be ignored. i think i'll stick with a smart playlist by genre! ;)

cheers

Yeah this is what I like, I've got two Electronic Mix's, one is slow, mellow electronic and the other is fast Drum n Bass stuff. I'm loving this feature :D

Am I missing something? Is the Genius Mix only available for the iPhone 3GS?

I have update iTunes, and updated genius on my mac, I have also updated the software on my iPhone 3G, and synced like the apple website suggested but still don't have the genius mix option in my iPod app. Has anyone else had these hiccups?

Why are people complaining about the genius mixes created, it's your music that you loaded on itunes...

It should definitely appear on your iPhone since even my first generation ipod touch has been updated with it.

Did you place a checkmark next to one of the actual Genius mixes under the syncing options ?

You may want to see whether you just missed the Genius button on your iPhone. I had to look for it under the 'more' section of the iTunes app on my iPod.

Does anyone have an answer to this? I don't really want to start another thread.

Same here. I've done everything, updated genius, put 3.1 on my iPhone 3gs, shut down genius and restarted it, and I cannot get the genius mixes to appear on either itunes or the iphone.

I finally got it to work. First, I turned Genius off (which takes a while), then back on -- though I'm not sure that accomplished much, because my first two attempts to turn it back on produced the same type of error message I'd been getting. I actually left home for a few hours, and when I returned, I tried again -- and it worked. And the Genius Mixes appeared automatically in the sidebar.

I suspect there's just too much traffic on Apple's servers. You just have to keep trying until it works. Or wait, and try again tomorrow or whatever.

That is exactly what I do. I am not sure what criteria they choose for Genius Mixes but it sucks big time. I have a genius mix titled Jazz, and I was just listening to it and it includes some of my Christmas music that isn't even close to what is classified as Jazz. WHAT A JOKE.:p:confused:

I'm having good luck with Genius Mixes, but I really wish I could at least see the playlist that's coming up (and possibly remove some songs).

My other issue is that in one of my mixes, curiously called 'Easy Listening 1' (Michael Buble, Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole etc.) I get a ton of Christmas music! I guess, yes, I do have Christmas albums from all of these artists, but that's pretty annoying in early Sept...

how do i actually mix it

when i click on a song and click the genius thing i get this message:

Genius is unavailable for the song "song".
and then another message

why is this?

this is what i hate about genius, it looks like you can only create genius playlists with songs that are on the itunes store only, if its not on the itunes store it wont work

is this right? or am i doing something wrong?

How are you getting 8 (or even 12 I've seen) because when I set mine up all I get are 2

urban cross over mix
grunge mix

yet I have all kinds of genres in my library, hip hop pop, rock, hard rock, metal, dance, alternative....

I love iTunes Mixes but is there a way to get songs to not show up in them because my cousin syncs her iPod with my computer and there are some songs that I absolutely hate and I don't know how to get rid of them. I have unchecked them and I have changed the genre in info but nothing helps they still sync to my iPhone when I sync the mix to it.
