So will they take an exchange AFTER the 14 days are up? My apple store is completely sold out of iphones and i dont know when ill be able to exchange it.

Anyone know the answer to this question?

Also, if I have dead pixels and need an exchange visit, do I need to actually schedule an appointment with the 'Genius bar'? Or can I just walk in, explain the situation, and exchange it?

Yes because the 14 day policy is really for a return. For the exchange you have the 1 year warranty and longer if you buy applecare. Even though they are sold out I would still make an appointment for the genius bar, if they determine it is defective than they will take your name and hold one for you when it comes in. You will be able to use your current phone until that time.
I am not sure how they are handling the dead pixels. I would say to make sure you know where that pixel is, have a video on the phone for demonstrating the problem as well.
It has been my experience to state my case and be firm but never rude/load.
hope this helps

So my visit yesterday went great. I explained the issue with my earpiece resonating, he couldnt reproduce it but I politely explained that it happens when you talk to someone with a louder than normal voice or someone on a loud phone and that it happened 3 times that I called my mom, who talks loudly, and one of my friends, whose motorola Q is pretty loud. He went to the back and brought out a new 8 gigger. He asked if I had the box, I said no, he just opened the new box took out the phone, switched the chip to my new phone and I asked him to please hook it up and activate it which he did and it was done in 2 minutes. Very pleasant experience.

You can go and talk to someone now about it, and perhaps come back later for an exchange if you're worried about it. Or they might have some in stock purely for exchanging.

You will also want to make an appointment, my 2 cents though. It was never a feasible idea to wait without one for me at any of the LA apple stores. It's just easier.

Funny about the box. We called and they told us we didn't need the box, we have no more to give you, we'll have to send it in to repair, etc.

We got there, brought the box with us and the resident Genius swapped the phone for a new one. I guess he was the great Kazoo or something to pull it from non-existent inventory! LOL

There were a handful of other folks there too, so some of them are having issues. To be expected with the first batch...

He was very friendly about the whole thing, completely different from whomever I spoke with on the phone.

My issue was a intermittently bad bluetooth module. It worked fine for the first couple of days, then it couldn't attach to my car (second phone was just fine). You could get it to work if you really tried, but who knows how long that would have lasted.

Overall a good experience!
