i think it's best to use cDock to do such things than copying old dock.app versions ... just saying.

Like the OP, I also haven't been able to completely nail the Mavericks dock 100% with cDock. So this is pretty helpful imo. Also, does anyone know how to make the dock black? Here's my black dock back on Mountain Lion:
