well my 16G that I ordered won't be here until mid June so ............. whatever.

But iPad plans are month to month anyway. Won't the unlimited peeps just be forced to choose a new plan at the end of their current month?

It is definitely not pointless for everybody. The new plans are going to save me money. I like that.

I got 3G for my iPad so I could check email and surf a little when I'm not near a wifi. I activated the 250MB plan and I am still no where near using it up. I'm at about 60 MBs twenty days in.

I never expected to use the Netflix or ABC apps "on the go" and when I am traveling if I feel the need to do that well then the vacation i am on must really suck.

Fine what everyone is saying, but the 3G iPad was promoted with the unlimited $30 plan, and to remove it when the ipad is less than a month out, is at best, misleading.
and if you can believe, ATT, I called them and was told the iPad plan is transferable. he acted like it is common, even with the iphone? not sure I believe it but if true my week old 3G unlimited iPad may have just become a rarity, and maybe a valuable rarity to some unlimited buyers out there.

Just stop, ok. Your $5 savings a month isn't the issue here. AT&T knows this. We all know this. Do you know this?

3G doesn't become "pointless" with today's announcement, just potentially more expensive.

+1.

Exactly.

The iPad is not for someone on a budget. It's a rich man's toy. A plaything for those bored with our smart phones and our notebooks. You have everything you needed to communicate with the outside world, probably and iPod Touch, too. You bought an expensive tweener device with no real purpose other than to amuse yourself.

It's $1 a day if you're grandfathered in with the unlimited data plan. Less than a bottle of water a day.

Suck it up, buttercup.

With the new switch in data plans, the 3G iPad seems like a waste of cash. I don't think 2GB of data will last very long with apps like Netflix and the ABC player when I'm on the go.

I had just managed to convince myself that paying an additional $30 a month was worth it (after much debate). Now all I can see is how much of a ripoff 2GB for $25 is.

What a let down :(

2GB will be perfectly fine for 99% of users. I rarely go over 2 GB when using my USB modem and I'm on my computer all day long.

If you don't like either plan then you should purchase a Kindle. Best of luck with that ..............

What kind of bizarre answer is this? It's a very valid point. I checked my usage and after 21 days I am at slightly less than one gig with what i'd actually consider heavy 3G usag for me. I am happy that I will be able to save 5 bucks a month.

That's $0.16 cents a day.

If you're that bent over the cost of a stick of gum, you never should have bought such an expensive toy.

The point is AT&T announced unlimited is unlimited before the launch. Now it is limited. That sold many people who like options. Now your option is to pay too much, or way too much for data. For me, it is just more disgusting FU attitude from AT&T. I will dump them as soon as Apple decides to start dating other people.

PS: you forgot 2X douche bag in your signature.

Welcome to the real world, son. It's a cruel, cruel place where only the strong survive. This life's lesson only cost you $1 today. If that cuts deeply into your budget for generic mac 'n cheese in the discount aisle at the local price club, well, you shouldn't have purchased the world's most frivolous toy now, should you.

Not to nitpick, but according to AT&T, it's actually fine for 98% of users, not 99%. Just sayin...

1. No one is interested if you get a 3G version or not.
2. Life is about choices. You choose not to. Your decision.
3. Not everyone lives in the US where the operators stick it to the users.
4. Did you really not see this coming? If you want to complain, start with complaining about how sites like Google, Yahoo, etc.... Give nothing back to the operators in the way of bandwidth management, or network shaping. Google dumps terabytes of data out on to the net without caring how the data is transmitted. Not to stick up for the operators but they are screwed as well.
5. So buy something else and then complain on their forums.

Your post is the one nobody is interested in, actually.

We need to wait for more information from ATT but at this moment, the grandfather only applies to people who maintain the unlimited plan continuously. Once people stop it, they'll lose it forever. They can't renew the unlimited plan. Which means, starting next monday, people who has been getting iPad 3Gs just because they can use unlimited 3g for a month at any given moment in time no longer will have that option, regardless if they bought it before the price change.

That's the biggest letdown, that was the biggest marketing feature for Apple. Unlimited, any time, anywhere for same price with no contract.

So what if instead of changing the cap, they raised the price to $50.

Would that have been okay with you?

You could still use it unlimited, any time, start and stop.

Again the timing of all this makes their position indefensible, but some people act like what was offered was a lifetime commitment for unlimited data for $30 a month whenever they wanted it. Which is not the case.

It's not about that. It's about the massive marketing done by Apple and ATT to say that its a "breakthrough" deal to offer an unlimited data for 30$ a month ANY TIME you want it. You can cancel and get back to unlimited 3g for a month any time you want. That's how they marketed it.

It's reasonable for people to think this could go on a year or two before ATT changes it. Very reasonable to think like this. People did not expect this to last forever.

But they changed the whole system within a frigging month. That's the unacceptable part. It suggests they should've done this in the first place. There's no way in HELL that ATT did not plan to do this and not tell Apple about this and there is no way in HELL that ATT did not do this intentionally. It's a bait and switch, period.

Grandfather or not, it does not matter, what about to those new customers? How is this fair to them? Apple and AT&T should've done this at iPad 3G launch, not wait until WWDC.

This waiting until WWDC is the most retarded move by both ATT and Apple, this is the biggest screw up on both of them.

Yes, majority of people will save money with this new system. Yes a few people will be paying more than before. Yes people still have the option of being grandfathered in. That's all good and so on.

The timing as you said, was the most unacceptable part. Why create all this confusion in the first place?

I couldn't agree with you more! I'm returning and getting a wifi only.

What's the point of a 3G one lol...2 Youtube videos? LOL

Tone & lack of decorum ...

I swear half the posters that bash people for being upset about this bait & switch must work for either AT&T or Apple or both. How much do they pay you guys? Seems like a pretty easy job.

:apple: think bad.

No one needs to pay us. It's common sense.

You go on vacation in Greece. Bring the whole family. Costs you $10,000 maybe $15,000 when all is said and done. You have a wonderful time, couldn't be any more perfect.

A waiter has mistakenly overcharged you $1 on the bill for your final meal before you fly back home and you let it ruin your entire vacation.

It's not about the principle; it's a dollar a day. If you can't afford that, you shouldn't have purchased a $629 rich man's toy.

No dude, that's not even on the same level.

It's more like you bought tickets to an airline that offered to give you free food and drinks for the whole roundtrip only to come back on the return trip finding out that they actually meant one free drink and meal for the whole trip including the return flight.

Right, so you take a $5 bill out of your wallet and pay the flight attendant for a drink and you take a $10 bill out of your wallet and pay the flight attendant for a meal.

It's only $15. No one is going to let $15 ruin a $15,000 trip. The iPad 3G is a wonderful device. "Magical", just like The Steve said. AT&T is giving you the option of either saving $0.16 cents a day -or- paying $1 a day for the same level of service. Take your snack box and shut up.

Who cares about the principle or the ethics when the end result is the cost of a bag of potato chips? Get upset about something important. If you can't afford $1 a day, please, sell your iPad and use the money to eat for a year.

BJ

I love seeing the future. :D

Seriously, This reminds me of what i'm going through with my 60 gb PS3. We got a Class Action Lawsuit against Phony, because they removed the Linux feature 5 years later that was the selling point of the System. Then try to muscle you into upgrading your system and accepting EULA's that violate your privacy rights.

Stand for something or fall for anything. As long as consumers keep taking Back Shots, these BIG TIME corps will keep you on your knees.

The next thing I see in the future is devs BOMBARDING us with Advertisements in these unfinished apps that we pay good money for. Its already begun and will get out of hand real soon when 4.0 is unleashed. Instead of updating with new features and bug-fixes it will be ads. :apple:

If you ignore the principles and the ethics, then why stop now? How about giving away our privacy away for the sake of getting 10$ off our bills? How about letting the CEO screw our little daughters for a year of service?

You think it's completely acceptable for a company to screw you for a buck, that's fine, for many of us, it ain't.

There's no point of dragging this on, neither of us will agree on this. Neither of us have control over this. Neither of us is going to do anything about it. We'll just give the companies a bit more power over us just because you think it's acceptable and just because I have no choice but to accept it but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

It really just depends on what you intended to use it for. To me, it the 3G iPad vs. the WiFi iPad is a mater of having the full usefulness of the device anywhere you go vs. dealing with relatively limited functionality almost anywhere but home. I have an iPhone if I need to look something up really quickly while I'm out. The iPad is a different beast entirely.

For reasons beyond me, my workplace doesn't have WiFi. Hopefully this change prompts Apple to improve file sharing options available on their devices. If I'm going to be restricted in the amount of data I can pull over their network, then they should enable bluetooth file sharing and quit suggesting I e-mail pdfs and excel documents to myself. The iTunes method is hardly any better. It would also be nice if Safari didn't force refresh itself any time I even think about opening another page/tab.
