AND you could afford one along with the lovely headphones you've picked out (they're professional in studio monitors...you could go a few models down and save yourself some cash there too and not notice the difference!).

That said, if you do want the iPad, I'd opt for 3G. I think it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Yes, I agree, but I dont have the iphone, more accurately, I can't use my iphone. I bought it on contract when I was in Japan, and I had to terminate the contract when I left. So, now its just a slower ipod touch with camera and gps..

Oh I figured so.. studio grade.. and I'm not even an audiophile, just love music. Well, any recommendation that can wow me though? I've tried Klipsch S4 and JVC something (with slick black design and Dj style). Can you recommend any that is below the price of the triple fi but still have the more or less same audio quality?

And thanks for the input on ipad.

Guys, as for the mifi, I think it's locked to the carrier on the country where you purchased. Beside, I think that cost $150 upward no?

I hope you're not the kind of guy who overpays for monster cables. The audio quality of the iPad just isn't good enough to justify $300 "audiophile" cans. You would be far better served by cutting your headphone budget in half and putting the difference towards the 3G version.

The 3G version will be easier to sell used.

GPS/compass is useful for location based apps, not just for driving.

If you have access to broadband, why not just slap a cheap wireless router on it and theny ou have wifi.

This is very good info everybody. I am also in the same situation and since it is my birthday today my wife gave me permission to go to the Apple store during my lunch break to buy a new toy for myself. My wife already has an older generation ipod touch and I am debating (aggressively) with myself if I want a new iPod touch 4 or an iPad. For me the big advantage of the iPad is of course the cheap 3G option. Yes the 3G costs more but from I have been able to tell it has the most flexible 3G service out of any other device out there. It seems to be the cheapest and there is no contract and I can pay the $15.00 whenever I want to use it. Honestly this 3G service is the one thing that holds me back from getting a new iPod Touch.

This thread has made me think once if I really need the 3G iPad or if the wifi one would be fine. For me the thing is almost all of the time I would need 3G would be out of the country so now based on the last couple of posts I think I need to do a bit of research into international options with the 3G service. If it is going to be that much of an issue then perhaps 3G really isn't for me.

I also like the suggestion of a mifi. I am a designer and I take my iMac with me to events and meetings with clients sometimes and it isn't always possible to get wifi for my iMac. I always thought about getting an iPad 3G, jail breaking and tethering but that just seems clunky to me. Perhaps the better option would be a mifi that I could use with a iPad wifi and my iMac. The only problem again is the cost of mifi devices and the contract and service plans.

Does anybody know of a decent mifi device/plan in the US that compares to the iPad 3G service plan?

Virgin mobiles broadband to go is the closest with stop and go and pricing.

The plans just changed and you are locked to $40 if you want it good for 30 days, which kinda stinks.

The iPad has a variety of international options, there have been a number of threads on it - info for the searching and reading!

I was in Italy in June with mine, and i had a devil of a time connecting the 3G, and the Ipad chewed data voraciously, but what I found was that every little village in Italy has wifi, so connection was not a problem, even when I had to pay fror it, so I stayed on wifi almost all of the trip

Last Weekend I was on a football trip, and used the 3G to stay connected the whole time until I got to the hotel

I would get the 3G version, no matter what

Woah! Just checked on Virgin. Not bad really. Yes the 30 day plan is more expensive but they have a 10 day plan that is cheaper then the iPad cheaper plan. It wouldn't work for a month but it might be a better option for a road trip or vacation where you may only be away from known wifi hotspots for 10 days.

I also just discovered something that should have been a bit obvious for me. International 3G sucks. Well I'm sure it works well but it is not cheap. First of all Virgin doesn't seem to have any option at all for international 3G roaming. Verizon is of course on a CDMA network which typically doesn't work in Europe or Africa at all. ATT will work in many other countries but be prepared to pay some big bucks for the service. Those of us who travel international it seems 3G is kind of a bad option. My wife and I travel to South Africa a lot to visit her family and now I'm starting to think perhaps just depending on wifi might make a bit more sense.

I just did a search however and Vodacom the carrier in South Africa will rent a micro sim card for visitors about $3.00 for 20MB. Now that seems a bit more like it. ok the 3G is back on again for me. lol

I dont think many people are doing international roaming... Because it bites!

There are options in a lot of countries, you just have to seek it out. It won't be easy... But won't it be FUN to learn? LOL!

Checking for prepaid data sims that you can buy is what you are after, even if you have to cut them down.

Good luck!

ETA: the iPad is apt to use 20MB just turning on! It is a hog....

Thanks for the reply. Luckily, I'm not one of those guys :)

I think I agree. To fully explore and enjoy the high range cans I'd need an amp (which in itself also expensive). I won't be listening to a music on the ipad, only from my ipod touch.

I agree that the 3g version will be easier to sell. One of my reasoning behind the favor toward 3g version yesterday.

I agree on the GPS. I just searched what the previous poster has replied about the apps called "star walk", and all I got to say is just, wow.. very nice implementation! I know for a fact that my dad will enjoy using it (he have a big star telescope from Japan that is used on our base camp. However, been a loooong time since we been there and the lenses and such has been severely degraded. He was sad when he found out about it because he enjoys constellation, and its related, very much.

I do have one last question, more like general wondering for anyone that until now still bother to care haha..

if I go for ipad 3g, should I go all out (64gb) with resell value being still high, kept in mind. Or just the one I would actually gonna use (32gb) because 3g version, whichever, still has a high resell value compared to the wifi only?

Thank you guys for many ideas/thought that filled my mind. I am enjoying reading the replies and different perspective. I'm more confident on my purchase now. As for my phone, I think I'll just get a cheapo BB or something, because after this, I won't have more budget for iphone 4. :p

3G is a must! i originally bought the 64gbwifi, 2 weeks later i was loosing 100 bucks selling my 65gbwifi and forking over 230 more for the 3g, the only thing i´m sorry about was not getting it right the first time...

I don't want to be annoying, but if you listen to music on an ipod touch (mp3) you don't need 300 dollar headphones, sound from the source is crappy it doesn't matter what headphones you buy it wont get better... so get a good pair (comfortable), decent sound, but I assure you you´d get a lot more from the 130 from the 3g than getting some high end headphone that will be under used....

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies and input so far! I really appreciate it!

Just 15 minutes ago, I just came back from getting my first ipad. ipad 3g 32 gb :D

:D :D :D

I'm very happy. The reason why not 64Gb, is because I think it's too big for my need. I put 90% of my songs on my ipod touch 64GB. So I will literally put just 1Gb max of songs. As for videos not too sure, maybe I just put a couple. Finally apps.. we shall see I guess..

I hope I won't regret the decision :D

Cheers to you all!

Apps can add up pretty quickly, especially those with downloadable graphic content. I have 9.5GB of apps on my 32GB iPad.

Skip the 3G version and get VirgianMobiles MiFi for only $40 a month unlimited data.

Because that will work so well for him in Japan, Indonesia and Singapore?

I probably would have gone the virgin mifi had it been available when I bought mine, but the pricing structure change would have ticked me off. I'm happy i went with the 3G.

For anyone who anticipates traveling, 3G is really the best option. You can always use a mobile hotspot with a 3G iPad, but having 3G onboard is a very useful feature abroad.

Keep the choice Simple

Get the 64GB of either the WiFi or WiFi+3G model, whichever your prefer according to your needs. But whatever you do, don't get the ones with the lesser RAM.

Congratulations! I was skeptical of the iPad when it first came out, but I permanently attached to it.
