I said this in another thread, but eventually plan on selling my MBP for an iMac. I think the combination of having an awesome desktop and a really portable computer is perfect. There's really no need for an Apple notebook anymore. I would actually sell both and buy a new iMac or Mac mini.

I have a mac mini and just sold my MBP. The iPad will fill the gap nicely.

I own a Windows 7 i7 Desktop, 2009 MBP ( my first Mac ever ) and a iPhone 3GS. I honestly did not see owning a iPhone and a iPad AND paying ATT 30.00 + 30.00 for mobile internet. I had the WiFi model but returned it and now waiting on the 3G model.

I had my iPad for a week along with my iPhone and i never once touched the iPhone ( besides phone calls and text ) so i sold that, bought myself a nice, cheap, standard flip phone and have no regrets.

I thought about selling off my MBP, but its my first Mac and i am still learning how to use it. I can see myself using it LESS but i will still use it.

I see the iPad more of a iPhone replacement rather then a laptop replacement if anything. For people who have a iPhone and 3G iPad and will be paying AT&T 60 a month, that is just insane.....

Ditto. Everything I was doing on my MacBook, I can do on the iPad. For everything else, I still have an iMac. Had to keep the computer with the bigger screen....

On your MacBook, you can write report, save it to a flash drive, then bring that flash drive to work, stick it into a PC ,and then print out that report. You can't do that on your iPad.

Sure, you could always just do a bunch of work-arounds to email the report to yourself (which, ironically, I remember having to do such round-about ways to accomplish a simple task on a PC leading me to switch to Macs). However, it may be dangerous to always rely on the internet to get serious work done. If you rely on the internet, you will get burned at some point.

In my computer lab at the university, you can setup a network real quick to target a specific printer (not sure if you can do this on the iPad yet but I'm sure there will be a solution to this soon enough) to print.

Or you can just email the pdf/word/file you want to print from the iPad to your email and then login at the computer lab to download the same pdf/world/file to print. (Probably the easiest solution).

Either way, I never do any of my printing on campus, I have a laser printer at home to print what I need before coming to campus.

Oh and usually there is no need to print since the iPad is used as a pdf viewer of the would have been printed material lol. I just store all my pdf files on the iPad. =)

Now that I think about it, I've NEVER printed anything at the university. I always just viewed the file from my 17" macbook pro. Now that I have an iPad, I can view it on the iPad like an ebook reader which is a million times better!!

Only downside is that people will walk by with hate when your using an iPad. Oh well, I was already getting that with some people on my macbook pro anyways!

I just bought my iPad 2 days ago, so I havnt had the chance to really only carry it to campus. (I guess I'll find out what its like on monday).

I see your point, but don't totally agree. I see the iPhone as a much more portable device. There are just some places or situations where you really could not bring your iPad. Can you see yourself pulling your iPad out while out to eat to look up tonight's movie times? Your out at a club at night and you hear a cool song and you want to know the artist, would you pull out your iPad to use Shazam? Assuming you don't have another iPod, could you go running or work out while listening to music on your iPad?

It doesn't really seem that I've been gone a long time from undergrad, but don't you ever have to hand printed papers in? Sure, viewing stuff is really easy. It's getting stuff OFF your iPad IF you don't have very solid, reliable WiFi access (which doesn't seem to be the case with some iPads out there).

I'd love it if I can make phone calls from my iPad.

If you think about it, if most people own an iPad (possibly in the future), we can all do away with cell phones and welcome the age of skype like service where we can use our iPads to talk with video conversations (turn off video and add a happy face or random picture instead if you'd like).

I wonder if the iPad is a stepping stone for replacing cell phones. I'm sure there will always be a market for small handheld cell phones for portability but in general I can see the iPad or iPad like devices (from other manufacturers) taking over cell phone services and replacing it with skype or video chat via 3g/4g.

Actually if the 3g iPad is released, wouldnt that be a better deal? Cancel your cell phone contract, pay 30 bucks for unlimited 3g for all your internet needs and use skype to talk to all your friends (This means unlimited calls and international calls as well). Only problem is that not everyone is using skype or carrying a device with skype enabled full time.

am I the only one that caught this? I didnt think any had shipped yet much less already been delivered?

What specifically do you think you caught? I said I was WAITING on my iPad 3G.

waiting: (v) expect, look, await, wait (look forward to the probable occurrence of) "We were expecting a visit from our relatives"; "She is looking to a promotion"; "he is waiting to be drafted"

Anyways, sold the MacBook Pro today. Hope I dont wind up replacing it.
