I actually came to this forum to post the same thread. Why would anyone choose the AirPods over these? They're $10 cheaper, have the same W1 functionality, come with FastFuel technology (5 minute charge = 2 hours of playback), and have more battery life from the get go. They also charge via lightning cable, so no need to pack an extra adapter/cord AND while they aren't truly wireless, they'll be harder to lose. Kind of seems like a no brainer to me.

They may be $10 cheaper, but that wireless functionality isn't cheap. Compared to other wireless headphones they are priced very competitively. Also, 5 minutes for 2 hours isn't much different than 15 minutes for 3 hours. The beats may have more battery life fully charged, but the airpods charge via the case, which I'm sure is how most people will store them; effectively giving them more than 8 hours of usage if you take listening breaks throughout the day. You could use airpods one ear at a time, also increasing the effective usage time.Overall the airpods are more discrete, and some people want that. There is no need to pack an extra adapter or cord for the airpods as the charging case uses lightning, just like the Beats. If you really think you'll lose the airpods, that is a reason not to buy them, but it really doesn't seem that hard to keep track of them and place them back in the case when not in use. If you're concerned about walking and them falling out then I would hope you test this early on and utilize the 14 day return policy if needed. For me, I can't stand IEMs, as they hurt my ears, the airpods don't fit in your ears the same way so I would rather choose them over any IEM; Bose works for me as well.

I think that might sum it up for you.

Valid points. I personally cannot use Apple's EarPods as they hurt my ears after a few minutes and they also refuse to stay in. That's a big turnoff for me. I also can't help but feel like the design is awful; they look goofy. Like two cigarette butts hanging out of your head. While the charging case may be considered beneficial, it's also one more thing to worry about charging. I suppose the need for these will vary significantly based on personal preference.

As far as aesthetics - I don't see what the big deal is. Today we have plugs stuck in our ears that are tethered together. looks like strings hanging out of our ears. So suddenly, you cut the strings off, and now it looks weird? It's not much different than all the bluetooth earbuds people have been using for years.

People have been walking around like this:

And like this:

And for some reason - these are acceptable in all settings:

I'm the exact opposite. I like the earpod feel more because they aren't mashing my ears and just feel more comfortable.

I am trying the bragi dash right now and they look the best imo. But the EarPod feel better, are cheaper, have better battery but are just uglier.

I was skeptical going in about the Bluetooth connection but it's not an issue as long as your phone is on you. The volume is great and it has a low profile look, feels okay.

I do like the feel of the EarPods more but they are more prone to falling out easier. Hard to say if I'm going to return them (bought through amazon prime). I like them more aesthetically but the airpods have better battery and are much cheaper.

I've been eyeing the Bragi Dash for a while. Really tempted to try them out for lane swimming (get bored so easily during swim workouts). I waited as was curious what Apple was going to do.

My initial thoughts are that the AirPods look weird with the bit of stem sticking out. But I have a feeling if they fit (seems to be people who can't wear EarPods as they always fall out) they could be more comfortable than other buds that are larger in your ear. I use a Moto Hint quite a bit, and for me gets uncomfortable after an hour or so of use.

And it would also be very nice to have them switch between devices very easily (not everyone may care for that), but I have 3 bluetooth headsets for different types of use, and I'm always juggling the pairing between Watch, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

To me it's like the perfect example of how people don't like change. What you said makes sense, and because the airpods look different people get all upset. As many other people have stated, in a few years' time people will care a whole lot less about how the airpods look.

Don't know if you were aware of Earin, but I got a pair of those through what felt like the world's longest pre-order and absolutely hated them. They looked great but the software was buggy and therefore the connection too. They cost me $200. They also didn't pair with my MacBook which was not disclosed prior to receiving them and that was the sole purpose I ordered them, at-work listening. I'm excited to try the Beats X but I feel like I'm constantly seeking the next thing in wireless listening.

That's true the pairing process on the airpods will probably be painless, especially if you're using mostly apple.

Call me vain but I just like that discreet look. But utility wise I have a feeling the airpods will be the best choice.

But I guess the dash is waterproof if your big on working out and swimming putting down the extra cash might be worth it to you.

Can you share more experience with the Bragi Dash?

I've been really tempted to get them, but the bad Amazon reviews about Bluetooth connectivity scare me. I want these for working out and will have my phone in my shorts pocket the whole time. Inside or outside workouts. I hate Bluetooth dropouts and that has been a big complaint.

I do like the AirPods too - and will likely get a pair for work. I spend a lot of time on conference calls and web meetings and would love the wireless experience. But jumping around in the gym or lying back on a bench while working out - I'm concerned the AirPods will shift or fall out, so I'm not planning on using them for workouts.

Currently I've been using 3 bluetooth headsets:

-Moto Hint quite frequently throughout the day (very discrete single in ear) and it has A2DP so I can use it for calls and music/podcasts. I tend to use it mostly with my iPhone, iPad (less often) and Mac often as well.

-Jaybirds for workouts, mixed between Watch and iPhone (sometimes iPad for indoor cycling) and sometimes iPad/Apple TV for indoor running.

-Sennheiser over-ear PX360BT (got these on a killer deal 5 years back). Use them with iPad and Apple TV.

Love using all 3, they fit different roles quite well, but switching between devices is a complete pain. Most of the time I resort to un-pairing from one device and pairing to the next. For my use, I feel like the AirPods could potentially replace all of these. Definitely the Moto Hint and the Jaybirds at least. The fact that it's seamless between devices makes me very tempted to try them.

Only thing is I'm tempted by the Bragi Dash for the same uses, but also swimming. Though $400 (Canadian dollars) just for swimming seems like a bit much.

I saw a pretty decent review of someone shaking their head and trying to do quick active movements to see if the AirPods would fall out, and they stayed in the whole time. I feel like these may work quite well (for those who have the EarPods fit well anyway).

Found it:

You've described my experience, only 5 more Bluetooth devices of varying use.

The Airpods would allow me to finally pass on to others, or give away.

Cool! Thanks for sharing - I had not seen that video. Based on that I think I might wait until I get to try the AirPods in person before considering other "gym only" earbuds as well. I'm currently using Jabra Rox and they fit great in my ears and work really well - I'm quite please about the sound and everything - it's just that the wire across my neck sticks sometimes when I turn my head and causes a slight tug on one of my ears when that happens. So I'm really looking forward to getting rid of that...

I hear you. Been using Jaybirds for 5+ years, buds connected with a wire behind the head/resting on neck. I'm ready to lose that last wire.

One difference between the EarPods and dash is that the EarPods go in ear, so if you don't like that feeling it might not be for you. I haven't had them fall out of my ears and listened for a few hours this morning and the dash was still lit up with the green battery light.

I do like I don't need to worry about it getting wet and the case has a premium feel. The case is a bit big but still manageable in pocket.

I didn't have any drop out when I was walking the dogs with the phone in my pants pocket. I took a call earlier and my wife didn't say she was having a hard time hearing me.

Pausing and playing (or even skipping) was easy just tapping on the right dash. I feel like the dash might be better for working out and people that are more active while the airpods might be better if you just sit indoors or in front of your mac.

I'll have to keep testing them to see if I'll be keeping them. Only thing preventing me from being set on the airpods is the look. I just like a low profile, but we'll have to wait and see.

From what I read iphones also do have better connection with the dash then other phones.

The Clinton Archipelago unfortunately
I bet their over $200

They're $150 here in the states, not much difference from what I paid for my jaybird bluebuds which I use almost daily.

Hey I recently got them, I feel like the bass is really low? I find them uncomfortable and the black wing things keep coming out of my ear. Are the silicone earbuds better or the foam? Any tips? Also I'm finding that whenever I turn my head one of the earplugs come out.

I don't listen to much with a lot of bass so I haven't really noticed a bass issue. You have to make sure you use the right black wings and tips. I had no issues with them once I set them up properly. I later bought the comply tips as a replacement and they are nice, but I am just has happy with the originals.

That's pretty much point on, IMO. In most cases, the top picture was always 'dorky' looking and now the AirPods pictures look almost the same. Only now you have them in both ears, and in a slimmer look.... in a very bright white color.

If/when Apple offers the AirPods in black or other subtle colors, I'm sure they'll become more aesthetically pleasing to most people.

For those who have the Beats Studio Wireless, do they feel tight on your ears or do they loosen after a while?

Have been using my recently purchased ones and they still feel tight after 4 weeks of use. Ears get sweaty after a short whle....

Do these Beats X phones need to go "inside" the ear hole or ho they just sit on the opening

I've got very small ear canals and have struggled to fit earphones in, the stock EarPods fit me perfectly as they sit in my ear but not in the hole if that makes sense

From what I see they are in-ears, so will go in the canal.
