Safari crashes a lot on my Ipad.1, too. Disabling Java seems to stop it, but too many sites use Java, so that's not really an option.

For $500 these things should "just work". I'd expect this from a Windows tablet, but not from Apple.

I've been experiencing a lot of crashes lately on mt iPad 2. I cleared history, data and cookies and it hasn't helped. I cleared all apps from the multitask area and it didn't help either. Checked the log and I'm getting low memory also. I never had crashes prior to this last update. I really hope the next update addresses I hate to have to relog in to every site I use and reset up all my preferences just to be able to use the browser daily.

For people who have the Safari crashing issue...do you have private browsing enabled? I noticed the crashing after I enabled private browsing.

How many tabs do you open up? It only crashes on me if I have too man tabs open at once. Well it used to back when I used Safari, honestly why would you even use it when there are much better browsers. Download Atomic web browser you'll never go back.

When the hell is Apple going to fix this problem? Safari on my iPad 1 crashes constantly in safari due to low memory. I've done a restore and cleaned everything up to no avail. Was the a purposeful "bug" on their part to compel people to throw in the towel and get an iPad 2/3?

Imagine if Microsoft did a software update and your computer kept crashing. The tech community would be aghast and ripping them. But apple does it blatantly and skates?

Any reliable fix?

When the hell is Apple going to fix this problem

As far as I can tell, from reading other forums including a 62 page long thread on the appe website community forms, not a damn thing.

Cuz here it is June and even more people are now experiencing these random crashes, mostly while using safari.

It's been fine on the iPhone 4 running iOS 5. However, it frequently crashed when I had AdBlock installed (which apparently does not work at all).

Ironically, Safari crashed on my iPad 1 as I read this thread!

Safari crashes frequently now under iOS 5. I suspect that it now runs out of memory more frequently because the OS takes more memory to start with, but that's only a guess.

Annoying but not disastrous yet. Maybe iPad 3 will have 4GB memory!

Mine too. It's definitely the lack of ram that causes crashes. Apple knew they had nothing to improve for iPad 2-3 so they put too little ram on the first one so that they can force people to upgrade later I think.

Safari never crashes on my iPad 2 or my iPhone 4 and I spend loads of time on both and have the max number of tabs open no problem. Sounds like a software issue and I would dare ask if restoring the device helped at all
