So the girlfriend is really the only reason I need 1500 texts per month. And believe me, she maxes the hell out of them. She has the Google G1. I am looking for a good app with push notifications that works on both phones and acts like the standard text messaging app on the iPhone. That way she can text me through that and I can lower my texting plan.

Any suggestions? I know there are others out there who have experienced my situation.

So an extra $5 bux a month is not practical for unlimited texting? I guess if that is stretching your budget, perhaps another phone/carrier altogether?

A new girlfriend.

I agree, if you can afford the initial purchase of the phone and the monthly data plan, does the cost of unlimited texting really affect you that much in the long run? Besides, now that we have MMS, unlimited texting could be fun with pictures and videos...;)

I suggest you budget it $5 extra for those unlimited texts... [off topic] that way you both can a have a texting frenzy and use MMS for spicing things up ;)

Tell her that since you respect her as a woman and person with equal social rights, you'd like to split the cost of an extra $5/mo to upgrade to an unlimited texting plan. :D

heres what u do that will save u txt where u dont even need a txt plan

sell both phones, both of u buy blackberry's. There problem solved BBM ftw!

Wow guys, way to try and give relationship advice to someone asking for a texting client from behind your keyboard.

OP, I am not one to give good texting client advice, seeing as I just have unlimited texting, but dont let these "relationship experts" tell you how to run your life with your girlfriend. I hope you find a client that helps you save a few bucks.

How about Yahoo or AIM. Get 2 free accounts, download/install the client for each of ur phones. Done...

Or, get rid of the text plan, and both buy [one time fee] Beehive/Beejive, or whatever it's called. They have it for the iPhone and Android...

use an IM client?

I agree with this. I speak to my gf usually through gchat. I purchased beejive and she has a blackberry which has a gchat app that works well. It essentially works the same as texting and doesnt really use any more battery since it utilizes the push services. We both have unlimited texting anyways, but we like using gchat more.

As for everyone elses response regarding relationship advice, just ignore them. Your on a forum, chances are the majority of people here can't get a girlfriend in the first place. You wouldn't ask someone with no sense of smell to help you buy cologne would you?

hahaha These comments all made my day. Thank you.

And those trying to defend me and my relationship, thanks but it's not needed. I posted this on here expecting 70% of the comments to be about the relationship. It's all in good fun. And I needed a good laugh to lighten up the day anyway. Besides, what do you expect? It's the internet. :)

I was waiting for that one. Aside from the texting issue she's to awesome to let go though. ;)

Eh, not really on the same topic. I'm not asking this question because I'm broke. I know there are millions of apps for the iphone so I figured I would see if there was one out there ideal for my situation so I could attempt to drop the texting plan and save a few bucks. Just because I CAN afford the unlimited plan doesn't mean I want to.

This is a very good point to consider. :D

The thing is 90% of the texts are her incoming ones. I don't really text back because I know I will see her when I get home. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the same mindset as me.

Nope, I see her every night when I get home, believe it or not.

She likes to give me random updates throughout the day of whatever happens to be going through her mind. And somehow she can magically come up with a 30 minute story of something that just happened to her even though we just spoke 5 minutes before that....

There are plenty of work-around, but the question is whether she'd be willing to do it. Both of you could obviously email, but that would be too hard.

Yeah, e-mail was my obvious first "go-to" but she got sick of that real fast. Apparently texting is just to easy/fast for her.

Get google voice, jailbreak, use the GV app?

I've been trying to avoid jailbreaking. To much of a hassle that I don't really want to deal with. Although, I am talking about saving money here. And the Google Voice/texting would save me a ton on my AT&T Voice/texting plans...

I'm gonna have to look into that Beejive app. I think I remember hearing about that before.

The G1 is such a laggy phone, I am surprised she is even able to hammer out 1,200 texts a month without causing the device to explode.

Dude, tell me about it. The thing is such a piece of ****. Hopefully I can get her into an iPhone when her plan is up.

haha, thanks for the input.

Well so far the ones I'll be taking a look at are:
- Bejives
- Ping
- Jailbreaking for Google Voice
- A coworker also mentioned that the GChat app has push notifications. I might be able to get her over to that.

Anyone familiar with using the GChat app? Is it fast/stable?

AIM?

I'd tell her to stop texting so much, and I hope that she isn't doing this nonsense when she's supposed to be paying attention to more important things. If she really likes you, she'll understand and find other ways of talking to you.
