I don't know about you guys, but my girlfriend already hates my iPad...and I don't even own it yet! Her Dad is a tech nut (and Apple fan, like myself) and she's concerned that I'll show the same behavior (i.e. - ignore her like he....well, sort of 'forgets' about my girlfriends mom and obsess over New Apple Product). Therefore...she wasn't exactly pleased that I'm super excited about the iPad.

Long story short, she almost never has a weekend day off. She asked her boss for a Saturday and guess which one she got? Yup...this Saturday. I drunkenly had told her that if it DID end up being this Saturday, that I would skip it and order it later.

Terrible idea...I've been thinking of ways all week to sneak out, pick it up, and come back before she wakes up. But today, randomly, she texted me about the iPad and Saturday pick up...bottom line: looks like I'll be in line with you guys! I think she may be a keeper...

By the way, since people on this forum have zero sense of humor, I've decided to spell this out...I was neither given permission nor do I have any 'issues'. Despite her actually wanting to spend time with ME rather than watch me use an iPad (which apparently all of you do instead of spending time with any other humans) she's totally cool with me wasting a perfectly sunny Saturday morning in line with a bunch of nerds.

Wait a minute. You had to get permission from your "girlfriend" to buy an ipad on Saturday?

Hand in your man card.

You gotta standup to herand buy as you please as long as it's your money.. Should have pre-oredered :)

So...uh...are you going to get a man purse to go along with it or just use hers?

How's your girlfriend feel about that? ;) Oh wait.

But really OP, she's a girlfriend ... who cares what she says?

Damn, you beat me to it!

I'm confused. Who is buying this iPad? Is she buying it for you?
Can't understand someone needing permission to buy something from their girlfriend or boyfriend. LOL

My god you people are ridiculous. The point of my story isn't to be taken literally...the point is that most people aren't nerds (sorry). Most people would rather do anything but stand in line to buy just about anything. My girlfriend included. I don't appear to be much of a nerd - something she found out a little later. I wasn't actually going to acquiesce. The point was to find out if anyone else takes any heat for their ridiculous obsession with this damn thing that isn't even out yet. Damn.

Not to pile on (really!) but it sounds like you guys might be setting yourselves up for heartbreak here. You sound a little young for her to be projecting Daddy issues onto you already.

Edit:
My god you people are ridiculous. The point of my story isn't to be taken literally...

Sorry, it didn't read like metaphor.

It's not really any of my business, but.... WTF?
You're a nice guy to think that you need her "permission" to stand in line on Saturday, but really, it's very important for you, right? She needs to understand that.
Maybe invite her to stand in line with you. It might be fun. You get to socialize with other people, and its easier to be in two when you need to hold a spot. Make her part of your "obsession". Who knows, she might like the idea.

Those are just my "female" 2 cents. :)

You guys really are an obtuse bunch. I didn't get permission...jesus, I just got an 'its cool, I don't mind'.

And by the way, she just got a gorgeous 27" iMac that she couldn't care less about. Couldn't care less.

1) We're ridiculous? Were not asking some teenage girl for permission to buy something.

2) If your posting about buying a product on a tech forums, your a nerd, geek etc... Welcome.

3) You may not "appear" to be a nerd, but you are, normal people don't create forums posts about getting permission to buy a yet unreleased tech gadget. :)

If you can't take a little ribbing for a post like that, your in for a very long haul on MR. :D

Bottom line, lighten up and enjoy the jokes, you created a thread for attention, clearly you are getting what you wanted. Enjoy it, and laugh like the rest of us. It's not really anything to get upset about.
