You can't post like you did & not expect to get ripped a new one. Come this Sat, hope you enjoy your soon to be released iPad like the rest of us. :D

1) We're ridiculous? Were not asking some teenage girl for permission to buy something.

2) If your posting about buying a product on a tech forums, your a nerd, geek etc... Welcome.

3) You may not "appear" to be a nerd, but you are, normal people don't create forums posts about getting permission to buy a yet unreleased tech gadget. :)

If you can't take a little ribbing for a post like that, your in for a very long haul on MR. :D

Bottom line, lighten up and enjoy the jokes, you created a thread for attention, clearly you are getting what you wanted. Enjoy it, and laugh like the rest of us. It's not really anything to get upset about.

+1000000% Agreed.

I would have said, "Hey I have something to do on Saturday, I'll see you after." That's all.

But I'm married now, and still don't need permission. LMAO. :D

Take her dad. You two have a lot in common with the Apple love. Plus you've both seen her nekkid ;)

I don't know about you guys, but my girlfriend already hates my iPad...and I don't even own it yet! Her Dad is a tech nut (and Apple fan, like myself) and she's concerned that I'll show the same behavior (i.e. - ignore her like he....well, sort of 'forgets' about my girlfriends mom and obsess over New Apple Product). Therefore...she wasn't exactly pleased that I'm super excited about the iPad.

Long story short, she almost never has a weekend day off. She asked her boss for a Saturday and guess which one she got? Yup...this Saturday. I drunkenly had told her that if it DID end up being this Saturday, that I would skip it and order it later.

Terrible idea...I've been thinking of ways all week to sneak out, pick it up, and come back before she wakes up. But today, randomly, she texted me about the iPad and Saturday pick up...bottom line: looks like I'll be in line with you guys! I think she may be a keeper...

By the way, since people on this forum have zero sense of humor, I've decided to spell this out...I was neither given permission nor do I have any 'issues'. Despite her actually wanting to spend time with ME rather than watch me use an iPad (which apparently all of you do instead of spending time with any other humans) she's totally cool with me wasting a perfectly sunny Saturday morning in line with a bunch of nerds.

the end

Wait a minute. You had to get permission from your "girlfriend" to buy an ipad on Saturday?

Hand in your man card.

*ROFL gif, that MR has YET to develop!*

Let's review ...

Sorry but what part of that isn't an act of permission and of those parts, which part wasn't literal?

Enjoy the new iPad. You go girl!

I for one am glad your gfriend said it was ok. It's slowly growing on me (the iPad not your girl) and I think I wouldn't mind having one myself. Just know she is likely logging all of these little gadgets you buy while you two are together and will likely expect that you buy a gift that amounts to the cost of said gadgets when the time comes. Either that or she will equate what you bought while courting her to the size of the ring she's going to tell you to buy her.

I never understood the concept of having to ask permission from your GF. Sure, you should be considerate of her feelings, but nobody owns you man and if I had to ask for permission from my GF guess what? I'd rather be alone.

In all fairness, if they live together and share an account; something that is not all that uncommon these days, then permission should be had if he's spending community money. It doesn't seem to be the case here, thus the **** storm that followed the question. :D

Hopefully they've both seen her naked for completely different reasons....

Yuck. Don't try to out-funny eawmp1. :D

Spoken like a man who isn't married yet. :p

the end

This is not a struggle over your obsession with a new tech toy. This is a fight for your soul. That she-devil you're dating wants to control you with guilt, sex, and sympathy (stories of how her daddy mistreats her mom). And here you go begging for approval like a puppy. You don't need to shop for balls at KMart. Neutering is not reversible. You should be in the pet section looking for a leash and collar. Something that will be comfortable for the rest of your life. Now sit boy, sit. :D

You guys really are an obtuse bunch. I didn't get permission...jesus, I just got an 'its cool, I don't mind'.

YOU laid out the worms, WE are just fishing with them. If I ever mentioned the words permission and girlfriend to my friends, not only would this just be 1/10th of the ribbing I would receive, but it would never end....EVER And by the way Nancy...."It's cool, I don't mind" = PERMISSION as you stated in your thread title.

To the ladies reading this....this is what happens when a group of guys get together with a friend of ours that is thoroughly whipped ;)

And by the way, she just got a gorgeous 27" iMac that she couldn't care less about. Couldn't care less.

And you ARE a Nerd....when I started reading this sentence, I was thinking you were going to mention her GORGEOUS body.....no you mention her iMac? :p

Lighten up!!! We are busting, if you can't take it in a web forum from strangers....how are you going to handle the REAL world?

Now get in line and enjoy your iPad on Saturday!

LOL, truely lost my **** reading that last part haha, great stuff. :D

In my house here's the conversation that took place

Fiancee - "Have you heard about the iPad? Are you interested or planning to get one?"
me: "Not really. Will wait a bit as I don't really see a use for it yet"
Fiancee - "Really? You like gadgets"
me: "Yeah - but I can wait. Why - do you want one?
Fiancee - "No."

Isn't that more of the "normal" relationship convo the OP is trying to suggest he had?? lol

A bit of advice...

Find one that will stand in line with you, preferable for her own. You can ever be chivalrous and let her stand in front of you...just in case she gets the last one.

Life will be a lot more fun...Trust me.

/Wife is getting the 16GB
//I'm opting for the 32GB

Summary of my conversation with my wife.

Me: "I'm going to pick up an iPad on Saturday"
Her: "What?! I thought you were going to get the 3G. You should get the biggest one with 3G and not go for WiFi!"
Me: "I can't wait. It's too exciting."
Her: "I don't give a **** what you do. Just leave me the hell alone with this iPad talk."

LMFAO.

Hahaha.
