Oh, you only get HDR when streaming, not with downloaded files.
You only get 4K when streaming, HDR can be downloaded.

+ I’d like to add Underwater to the list of movies.

My weekend picks are “A Quiet Place” and “The Cabin in the Woods” (4K, Dolby Vision, Atmos)

Watched “Alien Covenant” (4K, HDR, Atmos) last night and it was visually gorgeous on the new mini-LED if you can get past the storyline LOL
I'll take a great movie on a crappy display over a crap movie the greatest display on earth any day. Bad content is bad content no matter how spectacular the technical display.

I think it’s hot garbage but Lucy on 4K blu ray is like an av benchmark for home theater set ups since it has been revered as one of the best 4K transfers

Hot garbage?? For God's sake, it's a movie with Scarlett Johansson! At this point, I find it hard to take any movie critique from you seriously ...

Probably best to stream rather than download. Downloads are limited to 1080p because of Hollywood. They do allow 1080p HDR downloads, though.
Is it Hollywood? I always thought it was Apple. Either way it’s wrong, a download might take two days but you can enjoy it from then on, with a stream you might get top quality 10% of the time. My wifi has gone from 300Mbps to 1.5 (not kidding) over the last couple days with the influx of tourist in town. I’m glad tourism is back but damn.

+ To make sure this keeps going in the right direction I’d like to recommend Lights Out.
It’s not the best horror in any sense, but it’s not the worst. As the name suggest HDR makes it look quite nice. It features the same actress from Warm Bodies, a zombie rom-com also available in HDR (some scenes are fantastic) that tried to ride the coattails of the Twilight craze :)

Yep, it's Hollywood. All streaming services only allow 1080p download max. Only service that allowed 4K downloads was the ridiculously expensive Kaleidescape.

As for quality, depends on your internet connection of course. At home (200 Mbps), I can stream 4K ~90% of the time. The other 10% being when the connection is acting up.

If your internet is limited to 1.5 Mbps though, then yeah, downloads are more reliable.

First movie I watched on the iPad Pro was Avengers: Endgame (full quality ripped from my own 4K UHD Blu-ray). Looked so gorgeous. Played it on the 2021 and 2017 Pros simultaneously. The 2017 already looked good. I had compared it to the 2018 iPad 6th gen when the Blu-ray was first released and the color separation and contrast was much better on the 2017 Pro than the 6th gen. However, the 2021 just takes it up a notch higher.

Like I said my internet isn’t in any way bad, but when big weekends hit (memorial in this case) it can become close to unusable. LTE is the same, I can hit 250mbps on LTE in the town village when dead but can’t get 5 when busy. The tourist town I lived in before this one was even worse. I feel with the ever decreasing price of storage downloading is the way to go.

If you are looking for a film to show off your display, try and find 'Apollo 11' released in 2019. They have digitized in high resolution all the original archival footage and photographs from NASA and the Library of Congress. I remember watching this in HD, not 4k, and the shot of the rocket taking off was stunning. You could see every rivet in the rocket as it took off. We all know the story, but to see all their photos in HD is incredible. The Astronauts used a Hasselblad with a 70mm back. They digitized each photo in high resolution. Should make a good test for you.

Blade Runner 2049, as suggested a couple times, would definitely be towards the top. Another that I personally love on my OLED TV is Mad Max: Fury Road. I have a feeling that will translate pretty well to the iPad.
