I don't know why everyone flames the glossy screens so bad. They're not as bad as the screens on PC laptops, and it's ignorant to take a picture of the screen with a flash camera to show off the supposed "glare".

Check out my flickr photoset to see a couple pictures I took indoors of both my MBP (glossy) and my old iBook G4.

I should also add that this is the first laptop I've ever been able to use outside without having to hide in a dark corner of our patio. The glossy problems have been severely overrated, and I recommend to the OP that you take your advice from no one on this forum, but rather go see them for yourself. :)

I don't believe what I'm hearing here.

First a word of advice take the time a see the two option for yourself. Then decide. Don't have us decide for you. You know what is best and fills your needs better than anybody here.

Second what is with all the glossy screen haters. It's almost sounds like people that are bitter that they bought a MacBook Pro before you had a screen option.

The screen perform wonderful outside and in. yes you do get a little glare depending how the light falls on it. But after all it's IMHO the better choice.

unless you're a graphics designer by trade. It's really nice, it's got great contrast and color and such, but if you need true-to-color picture what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of deal, i'd advise against it. There's a reason why the pro model has it as an option.

Hey guys! Enjoying the discussion...

The Merom MBP will hopefully soon be my first Mac!

Now with regards to this glossy and "oversaturated" color issue... I already have a Spyder2 to calibrate the monitor for photo editing on the go so that shouldn't be an issue right? The fact that the glossy can show a wider gamut of colors should actually be a BONUS for photo editing, should it not? Unless there's something intrinsically "bad" about the glossy screen such as horribly "non-linear" uncorrectable color issues!

glossy should be blow off the face of the earth. the ONLY reason, I am not buying a macbook now, is because of that damned screen. I need a macbook, but if it has that glossy screen, I would rather use a pencil and paper.

Wow, that is possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. My macbook has glossy and you know what, I think it's awesome. Oh yea and a lot better than a pencil and paper. Have you ever used a macbook with a glossy screen or are you just going off what you think?

my advice after purchasing my MBP:

GET THE GLOSSY SCREEN. No regrets whatsoever. I do photoshop and Final Cut Studio work (not a pro or anything), but the colors are fine for that. OUTSTANDING all around display. So much brighter than my old Powerbook and the new MBP w/ matte's. Glare is not as much as an issue as what some people on here say... GET GLOSSY!

spent an hour with the glossy and an hour with the matte at the apple store.

the glossy is just much better overall.

i will be getting a glossy screen on my merom mbp as soon as they are released.

Normally I hate glossy screens, they reflect every bit of light and make it horrible to be on, but I just bought a macbook with glossy screen and it is beuatiful. Best glossy screen I have ever seen. It has almost zero glare and has crisp clear colours. I love the apple glossy screens.

The Apple glossy screens don't seem as bad as some of the PC screens. I've looked at a bunch in stores and the glossy PC ones just really...seem like they'd be annoying to look at all the time.

Since they offer glossy or non-glossy with the Pros, do you think they'd offer that with the MacBooks starting after Paris? Seems like a lot of people would like to have the choice. My mom wants to get one, but didn't really like the glossy when she looked at them at the Apple store.
