Is anyone still having trouble with gmail and the iOS mail app in 9.1? The issue popped up during the 9.1 betas and won't go away, and the mail app sporadically can't connect to imap.gmail.com.

Anyone else affected by this?

No. Been rock solid in 9.x.

Outlook.com was a problem child, for me, for a couple of days. But that is not a primary account for me (alternate e-mail address for recovery and notification of other services).

There's a chance I feel like a giant idiot here, as I had my main gmail account but also a university account hosted on google apps, at a university I've recently left. I suspect it was giving me frequent errors because my address has been deactivated. I'll know in a few days or so...

iOS Mail app with 2 GMail, 1 Outlook, 1 iCloud email on it.
Have sporadically been getting popup issues like "Password Missing". It is only happening on one account at a time.
Just had a "Cannot get mail" popup not 2 minutes ago (imap.gmail.com)

Still seeing things

Still could be gmail's servers. No indication it has anything to do with iOS or else everyone would be seeing it at some point.

But when I had my most recent error, I was able to open it via the GMail app without issue.
Could have been a "quick" error. Does the GMail app display these types of errors when they occur?
I'm only seeing them on the iOS Mail app.

I'm having the same problem. Very sporadic.

Still having the same problem with iOS 9.1 it happens every couple of days. I reboot my phone and it works for a while then I get the error message again. I've downloaded the inbox app to check my gmail for now, but I like mail.app much better so I hope there is a solution soon

I tried this and it was working for a few days so I thought that did it, but today i got the error message again :(

Yeah, same here. I deleted my account and set it up again a few times. Nothing seems to work. Was working perfectly until iOS 9.1.

Anybody heard or seen anything new on this? its pretty frustrating at this point. Are we just waiting for an iOS update? Or worse is this on Googles end and we are stuck with this error and pushed to use their app?

Looks like we are in a holding pattern.
I have tried a couple other apps that allow multiple accounts and they seem to be working fine. Based on all I ave experienced, this is on Apples side however it will likely require Google to change something on the back end.

FWIW, I have 2 iPhone 6 handsets - one with 9.1 and one with 9.2B3. On 9.1, the Gmail and Inbox are problematic. On the 9.2B3 handset, Gmail and Inbox work perfectly, as does Outlook.

I had backed up the 9.1 handset, restored the second handset to 9.2B3 with that 9.1 backup - the two handsets are essentially mirrored, save for the updated firmware.

I'm also using those 3 apps with an iPad 3 that's updated to 9.2B3 and they're working as expected on it as well. Patience...

I was having this issue on my iPad but not my iPhone. I'm a google apps user on the free tier, and decided to try the paid subscription. The error disappeared when I set up the account as a proper exchange account.

I decided to let the trial lapse and not continue with the paid version...and several weeks after my trial has lapsed the exchange server still works.

Might be worth trying the exchange account anyway.

yes, since IOS 9 this has been happening, i have been using the gmail app for notifications then using the IOS mail app to read them. Getting tired of it being slow and not connecting, probalby going to switch back to the gmail app now.

I started using spark and it's pretty good, I like it. I would rather be using the stock mail app but this is a nice alternative for now. Using it for my Gmail, Hotmail, and iCloud accounts

I've been having this issue, too. I have three company email accounts (all different domains) hosted with Google for Work, and they use GMail settings. Occasionally I'll open my iOS mail app and notice that it says, "Last updated yesterday..." even though I have my phone set to check for new mail every 30 minutes. If I go into each inbox individually, I'll eventually find the culprit because I get the "Cannot connect to imap.gmail.com..." error. It's happened with all three accounts at different times. I've found two things will usually fix it.

1. Logging into the email via a browser, then refreshing the mail app.
2. Killing the mail app completely and re-launching it.

It's annoying because the error doesn't show unless I go to the specific inbox/folders of the address that's having trouble. Sometimes I'll go for days without realizing that one of the addresses hasn't been connecting, then I'm missing work emails. I've made a habit of killing the mail app every night before bed and essentially "starting from scratch" but it's annoying that I even have to do that.

This has been going on for several weeks and I assumed it was a Google for Work issue.

It's weird that logging into the website temporarily fixes it. It's as if the device loses the connection to the server and can't reconnect, but yet visiting the website re-makes the connection.

Does anyone know if using the gmail app does the same thing, where it refreshes the connection on the stock mail app?

It sounds like an issue between Apple and Google and neither seem to be too keen to fix it. I'm also a google apps user.

I'm on iOS 9.1 and I've noticed only once since updating that I got a imap.gmail.com server error. I ignored it and it hasn't happened again since.
