Don't know why no one has posted about this yet. No reviews on iTunes yet, but it has TTS, traffic, latest Navteq maps, and is on sale for one week for only $39.99. It's also the largest gps app at 1.96GB. Thinking seriously about buying this one while it's still on sale; regular price looks like it's going to be $109.99.

i've got the gmap east that i bought about 7or8 months ago when it was on sale for $25 or so (at the time i only had an iPod Touch but wanted it for the intro price)....

i heard they were coming out with something new... this must be it.... i wonder if the maps are more detailed than gmaps east...dont' get me wrong they are pretty detailed with populated areas but when you get up in Northern Michigan (a lot less populated areas) seems to drop dirt roads, county roads etc... (seem like I always have my garmin 60csx by my side for up there)....

seems like a great deal for US & Can.... probably be a good pickup for the money.....
 
This is confusing. Is this the update for the older version or did they just abandon the whole east/west thing and put out a newer app to compete with Navigon? I have both and haven't used G-map once since I got Navigon. It says that all of my apps are up to date, so this can't be the long-awaited newer version. Anyone know what's up with this?

after looking at it it looks like they made the "update" the US&CAN and just said FU to the ones that bought the older version..... at least we should have gotten a discount for having the older version.. but guess that doesn't shock me....
 
I have been waiting for an update for the Canada only app. Which was claimed that was sent to apple in early September. Still nothing...

The main reason I bought G-map was that the upcoming update would give me exactly what I wanted in a GPS app at a realistic price point. I sure hope that its still coming. If I am forced to buy it again I will NOT be happy.

It would help if the developer was a little more forthcoming with whats going on... hold ups, etc...
 
I don't know that I would call this a "totally separate app". It looks like they made the improvements that they've been promising everyone, but realized that they were behind the curve with Navigon and combined the east and west and threw in Canada. They really should honor the existing G-map owners and call this an upgrade for them.

All I can say is that I'm sure glad that I now downloaded Navigon when it was at the discounted price and didn't hold out for these G-map promises.
 
I am not getting excited just yet... As far as I am concerned this is just another option that's available. Maybe a tad late when an all inclusive package should have been added to the store the second that other companies came on board...

As long as the other G-map products get the update to the new version of the software we will all be happy. They said it will happen, they said it was submitted, I'm just trying to be patient about it.

It is a totally separate app as far as the iTunes Store is concerned. There is no way to upgrade apps to different apps. Therefore, there is no way to offer a discount since there is no upgrade path.
 
It might be a separate app as far as itunes is concerned, but it shouldn't be as far as G-map is. It really sucks that they would keep promising something, then totally dismiss it and abandon the "version" that they have been pushing for all of this time. I actually wrote to them about 2 months ago, and they promised that the new update was going to be out as soon as apple approved it. I really don't care now that I have Navigon and I do feel that it is superior in every way to G-map, but it isn't very cool for the ones that have just this app and have been holding out for the newer features .... and don't want to keep spending anywhere between $30+ to $90+ dollars for another gps app.
 
Holy Crap this ticks me off! I have been one of G-Map's biggest fans... the underdog doing what the TomTom giant couldn't for the longest time. I bought this app when it first came out ($19.99 v.1.0), when it was a total POS, but have been soooo impressed with its evolution, almost always beating all the others to the market with features. And they rarely got any credit for their innovation in the iPhone world. It has, BY FAR, the best POI search on the market and the voice is so very pleasant (I call her Gigi :p).

Now, I feel screwed so far... especially if they don't give me an update for free. Loyalty should be rewarded. I'd be happy to pay for some map updates to keep the cash flow going to the company, but I'll be dang'd if I'm gonna give that company one dime if they screw me over on this update!

I did end up buying Navigon (thank goodness!!) when it was cheap because G-map's routings took me way out of the way 3 times in a row. But until Navigon went to TTS, G-Map was my primary GPS app because of the search feature, and is still my wife's only GPS app... she really loves it!

Please G-Map... don't make me regret being a huge fan of your app. I'd love to make this app my primary gps app again!! Please give me my Gigi back... I miss her soooo!!
 
I bought this a little while ago. It took about 20 minutes to download and then about 15 minutes to install on my 3GS 32GB iPhone. Played around with it and it was very fast to get a GPS signal. It's nice to have the Woman speaking each street name.

I searched for several POIs in my area and it always found them very quickly.

This app is the only one out of six that I have found that can actually read my contacts.

I also installed it on my 3G 8GB iPhone with about 4.5 GBs free and I had to remove all my 2500+ photos to make room for the app to install. Installing on the 3G was painfully slow taking about an hour. I can put the photos back once it's done syncing.

I haven't tried listening to music yet while using the app because I usually use my iPod in the car for music.

Anyways, other than traffic, the entire U.S. and Canada and the TTS, there really isn't a whole lot of difference over the U.S. West version I bought a few months back. I just wanted to get this while the price was low. :)

This is crap. I also emailed them and they said that the UPDATE will be out soon. WTF? THis isnt an update. This is a new effing app that we can buy. I don't mind paying for an update. But F U if you think I am going to buy this crap. Navigon, here I come. If someone can find the email address to Navigon, post it on here so everyone can write to them and let them know that they lied to us about getting the FREE update.
 
Question about maps?

I have been wanting a map program for my ipod touch 2g with 3.1 software. I would like to know from someone that has it, can you do thing like search for address ect like with "ms streets"?

Will it work with igps360? my 2g isn't jailbroke, but may be time it alp work.

Walk in and tell them a bunch of their customers are still waiting for the updates they were promised... lol I can't imagine that getting very far... :D

I just wish we would be told whats going on. If they submitted their updates in the beginning of Sept and Apples holding them up it would be nice to know. If this IS all the update we are going to get then that would be good to know as well and we can start the internet rage. I bought my app on the promise of the upcoming update. Without that promised update I wouldn't have made the purchase.

Either way I just want to know if my Canada update is on the way like promised. As long as it is I can be patient.
 
Updates soon

I received a message from XRoad that there will soon be updates for all apps that will include most of the new features. Supposedly some time this month.
 
I can understand everyone's complaints here but has anyone else downloaded and tried this app? I'm trying to decide between this (especially given the introductory price) and Navigon.

My funds don't allow for me to purchase both

PLEASE PLEASE go with Navigon. It is very full featured. I am in love with how many wonderful things you can do with it. I have downloaded 5 GPS apps and gotten my money back for all of them except NAvigon. Trust me on this one. It wont let you down. Updates are very consistent and they actually ask us what we want in the next update and do it. Let me know what you do.
 
These guys are full of ****. They've been promising updates since June and everytime they say the same thing: later this month. Do what I did and take your money elsewhere.

these guys are full of **it. I bought the US East and was looking forward to subsequent updates.. Yea RIGHT!!!

I took my $$ to MotionX GPS Drive and am very happy.

If they ever do a free update to all of us early adoptors i'd be surprised....happily surprised.
