I can understand everyone's complaints here but has anyone else downloaded and tried this app? I'm trying to decide between this (especially given the introductory price) and Navigon.

My funds don't allow for me to purchase both
I gave Navigon another try tonight and they claimed that in this update that they made the street names easier to read. They did, just barely. I still can't read the street names when the map changes over to that ugly olive green background. Many others have complained about this as well and to me it makes Navigon a total failure. What good is a GPS if you can't read most of the street names? Even in night mode they are still hard to read.

G-Map makes the street names so easy to read and there are three user selectable day and night color combos for each mode. If one is to hard to read there are others and this is something Navigon should offer. Till then I can't touch it again.

I also like CoPilot. That GPS app is just as nice to use as G-Map only CoPilot actually shows 99% of all street names. There is only one other GPS that does this and that is TomTom. I have bought six of the GPS apps, Sygic, Navigon, CoPilot, TomTom G-Map and IGO.

My top three would be CoPilot, G-Map and then TomTom.

I downloaded Sygics latest update but I haven't gotten to try it out yet. Their update adds TTS (text to speech) and it's on sale for a very good price now as well.

I bought this a little while ago. It took about 20 minutes to download and then about 15 minutes to install on my 3GS 32GB iPhone. Played around with it and it was very fast to get a GPS signal. It's nice to have the Woman speaking each street name.

I searched for several POIs in my area and it always found them very quickly.

This app is the only one out of six that I have found that can actually read my contacts.

I also installed it on my 3G 8GB iPhone with about 4.5 GBs free and I had to remove all my 2500+ photos to make room for the app to install. Installing on the 3G was painfully slow taking about an hour. I can put the photos back once it's done syncing.

I haven't tried listening to music yet while using the app because I usually use my iPod in the car for music.

Anyways, other than traffic, the entire U.S. and Canada and the TTS, there really isn't a whole lot of difference over the U.S. West version I bought a few months back. I just wanted to get this while the price was low. :)

Hey Space, Thanks for the info, even though I feel like I'm getting screwed, I'm really tempted to get this one. Quick question though, why did you have to delete all of your photos, if you had 4.5 gig space available ? I don't understand that. I wonder if that's why I can't download Co-Pilot ? I have 2.6 gig available space, and Co-Pilot is 1.3 gig, yet it tells me, "Not enough space for this app, please delete some photos and videos". I have emailed the company about this, but have not received a response as of yet.

Also, thanks for your review of this product, I never got the $19.99 G-Map US East to work on my iphone 3G, so I'm kinda scared to blow $40 on this one, and wish I could download Co-Pilot, which seems to be extremely popular. I don't know, G-Map seems to have more features than Co-Pilot. tough choice, but it's quite reasonable to get a full blown GPS for around $40 (Co-Pilot, G-Map and Sygic), as opposed to $100. I noticed you rated them with Co-Pilot first and G-Map second, those were my choices too.

these guys are full of **it. I bought the US East and was looking forward to subsequent updates.. Yea RIGHT!!!

I took my $$ to MotionX GPS Drive and am very happy.

If they ever do a free update to all of us early adoptors i'd be surprised....happily surprised.

Motion X GPS Drive is a pretty amazing app for $2.99 a month, very impressed !

Well the big apps like G-Map require at least double the space and sometimes even more to even be able to install. Once it was done, I was able to put all my photos back on the phone.

With CoPilot, some people have complained that they are out of date. I haven't noticed that where I am. My problem with it is that it has streets where there never ever have been streets. There are at least three streets like this in my area that I have noticed. I don't know where they get their maps but it is the only one that does this. May Garmin GPS sometimes takes a year or two to show new streets that have just been built. I still prefer CoPilot even with it's few streets listed that have never existed. I wonder if the maps they use are getting info from old city plans that once intended on building these streets and the plans fell through.

Yeah, looks like these guys are going to be getting some pretty angry emails. Not sure if I did this attachment right, but here's what they say is included...

- Instantly converts iPhone's address book contacts to routing destinations
- Music automatically resumes after navigation voice guidance
- Automatic resumption of navigation after a telephone call
- Can be used in portrait and landscape mode
- UI upgrade in map and navigation screen

I actually thought G Maps was okay except for one thing, the u turns. It just REFUSED to re-route me, just kept telling me and KEPT telling me to make a u turn, even when I had u turns turned off. Drove me crazy. Got Navigon now, which I really like a lot.

I downloaded it and have been playing with it the last few minutes. My version is the Canada only map.

Ipod is playing fine while the gps is working. I can't see how to control the music tho. Maybe I am missing something?

I have no voice at all for some reason. Ipod on or off I get silence. I even turned off voice in the settings, tried that and then turned it back on but nada.

Landscape works. :D

Contact integration for Canada is batting a zero. Not a single contact would be accepted.

GPS signal strength is a nice touch...

I installed via iphone and not Itunes. I might delete the app and reinstall to see if that fixes anything. Overall I am happy to finally have landscape but hope my install went bad and these aren't glitches everyone will experience.

Its not just you , I just got back from a drive to test it out and I don't have any Voice EITHER !!

Looks like the current offerings were quickly patched without a proper test. I noticed in the settings it still says its version 1, not 2. Hopefully all they should have to do is figure out where they made their mistake and get it out.

I have to assume the "US and Canada" version is working or we'd have heard about it.

I shouldn't have updated. But at least now I know this company is crap and I can give my money to Navigon Happily

Well my voice now works just fine. I deleted my gmap off the iphone and then installed it back.

Voice works in both ipod and normal modes. :D

Contact integration is still not accepting any Canadian address...

Not perfect but I am much happier!!!

How's the Voice volume? I am about to try what you just did

Seems ok just playing with it. Won't know until I try it in the truck. My diesel is loud!!!

The music just cuts out for the voice to speak. I think it would be a bit nicer if the music would fade (maybe even a fade to percent as an option) but that's just me. It works and that's good enough for now.

When I get a chance I am going to create a couple test addresses in contacts. See just where the problem lies with the contacts...

It would appear that they have some issues with the voice prompts disappearing when using the App Store updater. I initially installed the update using the App Store updater, but I was left with non-functional voice prompts. Seeing that someone here did the same, I removed the app from the phone and went one step further -- I also had iTunes download another copy from the internet. After synching the voice prompts were again functional. I would try just re-synching the program back before downloading another copy of this program.

Another issue that was fixed from the previous version was -- route issues. The program insisted on sending me around this one block in a loop before sending me on my way. That was an annoying issue! In any case, try removing the program from the phone if anyone is having issues with the lack of voice prompts.

Rocky

I just downloaded it and have been checking it out ..... No TTS, no traffic. If you read the app store info carefully on G-Map West, it appears to me to say that if you want these features, you'll have to buy this other 1.3.1 version. Pretty sneaky on their behalf by not including it on this update for East and West. It looks like they've only added a few things, like contact info, ipod, etc. I'm not getting too good of a feeling about this company ........ I'll stick with Navigon.
