I replaced my iPad (Sorry, Apple, it wasn't magical enough) and my 2008 MBP with a 13 inch Air yesterday. I LOVE it. The portability and battery life (almost) of the iPad and the speed of the MBP. I only have 75 gig of music, movies, and pictures, so the 128 gig drive was more than enough for me. This really is the best of both worlds for someone like myself who doesn't do a lot of CPU intensive computing.

why did you go bigger?

I want to use it as my only computer. I found myself squinting and getting closer to the screen. Now thisncould have been just tired eyes who knows. Felt that the 13" offered some extra perks over the 11.6 that I wanted as well. However, I really feel that the 11.6 is a good choice and depending on the individual could be a great only computer.

Well I was in a similar boat, I went with the 11(without seeing it before hand), and after seeing it in the Apple Store recently, it's perfect for me. The screen looks great and for me, if I'm going super thin, I also want it to be as small as possible, hence the 11.6 model.

No doubt go for RAM upgrade (and 128 storage if you can, really 64 seems small)...but external HDD are key too(but I always fine a use for those, so having those isn't new for me)

I'm considering a 24" Apple display...they're mighty nice!

I would love a 24" apple display. Think you can only get them refurbed now?

The iPad makes a pretty nice reader, but I still felt the need to further justify why I needed both. I was thinking I'd load Air Video and use the combo together when I wanted a larger screen for work...yeah, that's the ticket.

Seems like a good move that Apple introduced the iPad 8 months before the new Airs. People seem to be gravitating to the Airs now. It's much more practical. I'm salivating over them.

OP -- Sounds like you have quite a decision. If you use your iPad quite a bit I think I would recommend just selling the MBP and getting the MBA. See what your usage of both is then make up your mind about the iPad.

I could not even think of getting rid of my iPad, I use it so often. I keep it by my side when watching TV to look things up. I read books on it and check email. The iPad has changed my computing habits significantly.

The decision to get an MBA for many of us is usually not a "need to have one" decision for most of us, rather a "wouldn't it be nice to have one" decision.

For me I use an iMac as my main computer for content creation and such (I teach a hybrid distance ed class). I use my MacBook (2009) for Keynote presentations in class. When we travel for recreation we use the MacBook for music and Internet access.

I do not "need" an MBA, but I am getting one because I have rationalized that it will be nice to simplify my mobil computing needs.

Just MHO,

Andy

Thanks all for advice and comments.

Just waiting for DSG stores getting them in stock to try out.

I think am going to get AEBS and then run on 64gb with the MB and put the ipad to one side and get used to a proper machine again.

Will then make a call then, plus after the 4GB BTO reviews/experiences come in.

I'm debating selling my iPad as well to put towards a MBA. I have an iPhone and a MBP and always find myself either going to the phone or the MBP instead of the iPad. It's just something in between the two that I don't use as much as I thought I would. I'm sure once I sell it I'll wish I still had one, but I can't justify keeping it when I only use it once or twice a week.

I had the same thing... iPhone, MBP (before they went "pro) and an iPad. I bought the iPad for the apps/games/reader/and browsing, but I would reach for my iPhone 4 first for games/apps/and browsing on the go because it is way more portable. I didn't use the iPad as a reader much because it was a little heavy, and I just prefer browsing on a laptop. I felt bad i wasn't suing it so I would force myself to use it for browsing at times. I sold it on eBay and bought the base 11.6" and it replaces the iPad extremely well, but I wouldn't be replacing it as my main machine.
