I'm totally on the fence. I am still subscribed to Spotify, and I'm checking out AM via the trial.
What I love about Apple Music: For You. I appreciate having playlists that are very obviously put together by humans that have a solid knowledge of the music in that playlist. I love the constant flow of suggestions coming in on what to listen to. I'm a music snob who knows what he likes, but often, I'm just not sure what I want to listen to. For You always has a mixture of my favorites along with stuff that's new to me.
What I don't like is all very basic stuff that should already be in place.
- There is no way to view artist or album from the song I'm listening to.
- Albums don't have the release date clearly written next to them like Spotify does.
- You can't create a new playlist on the fly. I get around this by making sure I always have a Playlist called New Playlist made. Then I can add to it on the fly, and rename it.
- similar artist bubbles aren't links and don't have any functionality at all.
I'm sure there are a few more AM gripes, but I do dig what they are doing. The curated playlists really make it feel like a service and not just a paid entryway to a big music library.
As of today, for the sake of $$$, I'll be ending Spotify soon and riding out the rest of the AM trial. Hopefully Apple will have cleaned up some of the shortcomings. If not, I'll probably just return to Spotify.
On the other hand, maybe Spotify will add a similar For You tab that's as good as Apple's. Fingers crossed.
