I used the TomTom app on my iPhone and really like it. However, since I switched to Android I have been using Google Maps without any complaints.

Ok I now see (they say its in beta when you enter it)

so it works pretty well anyone who has experience with it?

Only the walking directions and public transport are in beta. Turn by turn directions for cars have been on it for years.

No it's 6 BC. The iStone is selling like crazy.

Haha that reminds me of this for some reason.

Ok,

to everyone in this thread, all I have ever had were Iphones. I have had a Nexus 7 for a few years but never use google maps on it for navigation for obvious reasons.

Last time I fired up Google maps was probably back in 2009 and new it gave directions but NOT turn by turn "gps" like directions. So I had a friend fire it up and it said it was in beta. So apparently it is not a full version (or final) So I was unsure if there was something better then that out.

But thanks everyone for the snarky comments

The reason is not so obvious to me. I assume it may be the size of the device doesn't make it easy to mount in your car.

I started using Android phones in 2011. By then, Google Maps has turn by turn driving navigation in my country (Canada). It was available in the US a bit sooner. Google Maps also has transit and walking navigation as well, unlike Waze which specialises in driving only.

Both Google Maps and Waze need an internet connection to work. If you need a mapping app that can work offline, you can look at NavFree. There are two versions. A US version for North America and an international version for anything outside of the US.

I personally prefer Waze. It suggests way better routes through traffic than Google Maps. Google Maps is annoying that it keeps zooming in and out as I drive. With Waze, I can set the desired zoom level and it will remain that way even if I exit the app and come back in.
