I'm going to be heading on vacation shortly with a brand new Touch and my precocious 2 year old daughter. Can anyone recommend apps that she might enjoy playing with for a little while? Just looking for an additional distraction when we're stuck in airports, airplanes, etc.

I think I once read that little kids like playing with Koi Pond. Others?

Yeah, I'm gunna say pay $5 for a small toy you can quickly tease her with, rather than risk ruining something like that...

man I have a two year old also. The thing that works best for me is YouTube with mickey mouse clubhouse or something like that. The only have ten min videos but the can work great when your waiting for food to come out. Just my two cents

Thanks for the, uh, suggestions. :p

Fear not, I'm not handing her the thing and walking away. And we will have other toys. But sometimes it's helpful to have something in reserve.

Heck, she can already take pictures with our digicam...

I guess none of thebpeople posting these super helpful replies actually has kids. I do, and so I have a couple of suggestions. ;)

Preschool Adventure. My 18-month-old loves this one. It has a few different activities, and the sounds/animations are cute.

Animal Farm. I think that's what it's called. It's an animal picture/sound matching game, mildly entertaining, fairly educational.

XyPhone. A vitual xylophone whose developer promised lots of cool features months ago. Whatever. My son likes it.

Movies. I'd highly recommed a Pixar film or two, as well as a handful of Pixar shorts (all available through the iTMS or other channels) ;)

Hope that helps.

My little niece and nephew love Bumblebee Touchbook. My mom put it on her phone and they learned right away to be very careful with it and they are.

Wicked! Thanks for the link! That's actually the same developer as the Preschool Adventure app I posted about. :)

Not to worry too much. There are a lot of apps that your daughter would be able to play. My son asks for my iPhone every single day and he just loves playing with it. Kids nowadays get a hang of electronics faster than my grandpa and grandma.

He's constantly on youtube, watching Thomas and Friends. Just add a few videos that you've scanned thru and ensured that it suitable for her to the favorites page. She'll know what to do next.

Some apps that i installed on my iPhone that my son loves to play with. DizzyBee, Flick Fishing, Chimps Ahoy, Cowabunga, Cro-Mag Rally, iBowl, iGolf, Space Monkey, Cannon Challenge and Scribble.

It's amazing watching them use the iPhone. Can unlock it by themselves, flick thru the different pages and select the apps all on their own.

Btw, my sons turning 3 in a few months time so i guess that should put them in about the same age group. Hope this help!!

p/s : watch out for your home screen. They do tend to mess up your applications layout!!

My almost 5 yr old son is Autistic. He loves to use my iPhone. Here are his favorite apps:
1. Dizzy Bee
2. Toy Bot Diaries
3. Armado
4. Anything and everything from Jirbo
5. Preschool Adventure
6. Rhino Ball
7. Chimps Ahoy
8. Space Monkey
9. RockNRoll
10. Pocket Pirate
11. Bubble Bay
12. Lightsaber
13. Sounds of the Sea
14. Cowabunga
15. Bubbles

2 words of caution with kids using iPhone (until they make a waterproof rubber coated model with self cleaning touch surface);
use a good case like something polycarbonate (Griffin Form or something like that) and yes, rearranging icons seems to be a favorite app for most kids.

As a side question, does anyone else here have an iPhone experience with Autistic children, and perhaps if there are any specific apps that seem to be helpful?

The Wubbcast! If your kids like Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, search for the Wubbcast in the iTunes store. They are great and have clips from their show and other old cartoons and all kinds of stuff. All of my kids love it! I think it only has some of the newest ones on iTunes, but you can find the older ones on YouTube. It's free, too. :)

Henry and Hailey's preschool pals

My 3 yr old son really enjoys Henry and Hailey's preschool pals. I'm amazed at how good he is about using the iPhone. I do supervise him and tell him that he has to sit down. I also don't let him eat or drink around the iPhone.

Henry and Hailey's preschool pals is very cute. Nice art and sound. Simple concept well executed.

He also likes the Bolt app from Disney. He saw the Bolt movie at the theatre and wanted us to download the game. He also likes light sabre.

Seriously

This guy asked for recommendations for a 2 year old kid... obviously pull my finger is not appropriate. There are a couple of apps my kid absolutely loves... one is Spawn Illuminati, and the other is iLava. He can even turn on the iPhnoe and start the apps himself!
