Unfortunately Aptana is a java app, which happens to make it very slow.
Java apps don't have to be slow. Did you try it specifically, or are you just going by the assumption that "Java is slow". I just tried it on a Mac mini G4 with 512MB RAM and except for a having a long startup time, it ran as smooth as anyone could wish for.

I gave it a go and it was sluggish for a text editor. Then again, Dreamweaver is very sluggish for me as well. I'm used to BBedit, Textmate, and SubEthaedit in terms of responsiveness. True, java apps don't have to be slow, but most of them are from personal experience.
