I'm about to get the Black Macbook - I have a gig on Feb 15th and need to get it very soon, so I can start practicing.

Anyway I'm tempted to buy tomorrow (Friday) but am unsure, is it likely they'd announce anything on Friday?

I can't really wait any longer than next Monday

I was in the same boat, have a huge presentation coming up that I absolutely needed the Macbook for so I just jumped in.. I doubt we'll see anything new today or Monday.

Macs seem to hold their value quite well on Ebay so if something better comes along you can always sell and buy the next one. Even the PowerPC based machines are doing quite well on there so I'm sure you'll get most of your money back on it.

I think for any new Mac, if you NEED one, then buy it.

But if you can wait for Leopard, I think that's a wise choice.

Can you get iSkins for UK keyboards? Our enter key is a lot bigger than on the US layout, it screws everything up.

That's right! About five years ago I sold a powerbook on eBay after nearly a year of use for every penny I had into the thing ($3650). I put that money into my Ameritrade account, traded AAPL and ELNK and turned it into about $20,000 in less than a year :D Damn! I was so glad I sold that thing :D

Anyway... I'm wanting to get a MacBook but would like the Santa Rosa too (who wouldn't ;)). So my question is... which would I lose less on by selling on eBay in a few months when the Santa Rosa's come out: a refurbished MacBook CD? or a brand new MacBook C2D? I'm thinking the refurb is the way to go considering how everyone I've seen on these forums who's bought one says they are like new but just come in brown boxes.

Any suggestions???

There is a guy that works at my company who parts at the AppleStore. He got me a %15 discount. So I went ahead and got the 2.0GHz Macbook w/ 2GB RAM.

$1532 (Total: includes discount & AppleCare) - $1100 (xmas $ from parents) = not a whole lot!

I love my Macbook. Of course go ahead and criticize. First thing was to put Debian on it.

I consider a Macbook to be a "throwaway" computer and it is not as bad as the Macbook Pro!

If you buy one today and a new one comes out 11 days later, at worst you've just lost $250 on your resale value. Chum change.

If that happens to your Macbook Pro... woah. Kiss $700 good bye...

Edit: Why $700?

Take a look at refurbished MBP prices, they are typically $400-$500 less than retail pricing. When a new model is released expect a further $100-$200 reduction on these prices. Since refurb prices pretty much dictate the maximum selling price of your used Mac, it is very safe to say you can easily lose $700 in 11 days.

I was ready to purchase a MacBook Pro last August and held out and I'm glad that I did. But, I didn't need it urgently and it ended up being worth the wait...a very tough wait.

I'd suggest just picking up a refurb macbook and throw some ram in it, you can atleast resale it for what you have into it and it has a year warranty. I picked up a 1.83 for 699 with my 100$ off discount from where they messed up my 2.0 MBP 8 times, then they gave me a replacemnt 2.33 with 256 vdram c2d 15" mbp + the coupon i was pleased
