That's only a bad thing in the land of fanboys. Otherwise the rest of us don't really care. If iOS has nice features, yes I want them on Android. It's a little bit sad that you would even say that, although I understand it's the reality on these forums and goes both ways.

I disagree somewhat. Of course users of each OS would like to see their preferred system adopted great functionality they see in other OS's but at the same time, what would be the benefit of having two OS's with nearly identical functionality? I personally think what make them different and the differing functionality they bring to the table is what make each exciting. I don't want to watch WWDC hoping to just see Apple mimic some of Android's functionality, or for the same to occur at Google I/O. I want them to push each other, not necessarily both slowly move towards each other.

I know car analogies get used to death around these board but how boring would driving, and cars in general be if they were nearly all alike?

Who would you say has been leading the push toward new things? I can't help but feel it's more Android doing that lately than iOS...

So basically, make it more like iOS and the Apple ecosystem.

It's pretty amusing how the prevailing wishes of iOS from Android proponents is that it would be more like Android and vice versa from Apple fans. ;)

Why not? Each platform has its strengths.

yeah I guess it depends on the feature. Personally I want it all, lol. I'd love to have the best features of every OS in my phone.

That's why I don't mind copying and it annoys me to no end when forum users cry foul, it's only a win win for me. If anything copying might encourage more competition as each company would try to outdo the other one and build on the idea/product. It's not like there isn't rampant copying anyway. They are kind of the same now except for maybe widgets from an appearance pov.

I'll abstain from this line of questioning as it's bound to start a huge disagreement/argument. ;)

In all honesty, I couldn't care less who's doing more/less, who did something first or who copied someone else. What does proclaiming 'so-and-so is more innovative' or 'copies' or did something first' get me? Not a damn thing--no discount on my next phone, no decrease in my monthly bill, not even a thank you letter from a company for my loyalty. ;)

I find all this bickering back and forth about who's better than who to be so tiresome (and not indicting you on this front, just a general statement). I want a device that best meets my needs, that's all--the logo on the outside makes little difference to me, nor does it matter one bit if someone else happened to do I first, just that it gets the job done for me, plain and simple.

Alright, end of my mini-rant. :D

Pretty much guaranteed to see this;

- Android 4.5
- Nexus 8 Tablet
- An update to Hangouts messaging

Google I/O never mentions or shows off the Nexus phone line, that is always a Fall release in October. And I still bet 99% we get one last Nexus-Six phone this Fall, most rumors pointing to HTC doing it, as they were the first with the Nexus-One, so a good way to close out the Nexus phone line, with this last 6th generation phone.

Do you have a link? Everything ive read says LG will probably make the Silver line so i dont see why they wouldnt make the last Nexus if there is to be one.

Just makes more sense if LG has been your go to and will continue to be. Ill probably be skipping the next Nexus anyways if there is one so it doesnt matter.

I have respect for tbayrgs.....we don't always agree and have disagreed numerous times. But i respect his position because of the way he states his position....he doesn't have to put someone down to prove his point or argument.

Less Google being creepy.
Less Google being evil.
Less Google+ real name *%$(*%
Less stupid projects like glasses or cars.
Decoupling Photos and Hangouts from Google+.
Returning Youtube back to it's pre-Google+ state.
Oh, and giving the Chromecast an ACTUAL UI and remote instead of having to download a million separate apps. Also, allow us access to change DNS, etc.

I detect a Google hater! LOL. I dont see the evil or being creepy. What are they doing that Apple isnt?

I dont get your Google+ comment. You dont want o use your real name?

I have no interest in Google Glass but i think the Cars is awesome! I cant wait to buy a car that drives it self when they come out. If they lead the industry in this and it comes around faster, i dont have a problem with it and dont understand your problem with it.

The Google cars(Prius' and others they use w/ somebody in them but driving itself) have logged over 500,000, probably closer to a million miles now driving themselves taking the pics for Street View. I saw one last week here in Henderson NV near Vegas.

The other stuff...i dont know, i think Youtube is fine and i dont have Chromecast.

If you think Google isn't becoming too creepy for their own good, you're not paying attention. Just because I dislike some things that Google does, doesn't make me a hater.

Google+ is pretty much universally despised yet they continue to push the nonsense in everything they do. I don't WANT to have my name and everything I do attached to a Google ad.

There's plenty they can do - fix Gmail, update search, fix Android - without going off into the creepy, the stupid (Glasses, watches, "wearables", etc), or the dumb (cars, etc.).

If you think Google isn't becoming too creepy for their own good, you're not paying attention.

Google let's you turn off or opt out of a lot of stuff. Don't want Google Now? turn it off, location and history reporting? You can turn that off as well. Don't want Chrome to send usage statistics? Turn it off too or turn on the do not track feature, etc.

But I digress, the real question is about "trust", therein lies the rub. Because as far as Google goes, their mission as a company "is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful"; that entails, of course, that they need to obtain said information in one form or the other. Very much every one of their products, from the "stupid"(Glasses, watches ) to the "dumb"(cars, etc.) aims towards this goal in one way or the other.

So, the real question is whether or not you trust Google with your data (contrary to popular belief, they don't sell it to advertisers), if you do, then I think, you'll welcome all the benefits that their services provide as they become more useful when you share your data with them. If you don't then, I think you'll just keep getting frustrated with their products and services as Google keeps on moving in line with their mission statement.

There's plenty they can do - fix Gmail, update search, fix Android - without going off into the creepy, the stupid (Glasses, watches, "wearables", etc), or the dumb (cars, etc.).

But they do that all the time too; and as far as Gmail goes, if the rumors hold true, we will see a complete redesign of it as well (hopefully at I/O). What you are asking Google to do is to stop expanding and diversifying, that is just a recipe for disaster for any company.

Ill ask again, what are they doing that Apple isnt doing? At least Google lets you know about it. Apple does not and they do much of the same thing though probably not as much with ads, but thats a guess since they dont tell you.

Google+ is pretty much universally despised yet they continue to push the nonsense in everything they do. I don't WANT to have my name and everything I do attached to a Google ad.

Me either, and why i dont turn on everything and attach everything with Facebook and such. And again, see above.

Your being pretty vague. Whats wrong with Gmail? If you dont want Google Glasses, dont buy it! Im not going to. I love the Car concept and you havent said why you think it is stupid!

They have hundreds, maybe thousands of employees. You dont think they have teams working on these different things all the time all at once? C-mon man.

Would love to see a big big google now update, It's lacking in some areas siri and cortana seem to be a head in, Nothing comes close to google now in terms of giving you information at a glance and learning about you and then proceeding to display information you don't even ask for, But it's far behind because an actual Personal Assistant like siri is ( or cortana seems to be in videos)

I would also like if if they released more in depth settings for google now, giving you the ability to add websites to create a feed of news of the websites in google now, the ability to add cards for 3rd party applications, for instance a card for ESPN that will update as news comes through, a FACEBOOK card that tells me when my events are etc just basically more control on what cards show up etc

Agreed, Robstevo, good points.

I too would like to see the ability to better fine tune and customize Google Now. I mean, right now I can search for say, Game of Thrones, and I can choose to stay updated via Google Now of new episodes and info. But it would be nice if I could go to the settings and manually enter stuff I am interested in such as websites, music genres, tv series, celebrities, sports and the like.

Something I am torn about is on wether or not Google should make Now more like a personal assistant, giving it a name and make it act that way and all that. As it is, I like how Google Now just gives you the information you ask for without jumping through hoops and trying to be too social/personal. The "Ok, Google" command also works in a positive manner for the company in that it creates brand awareness and also makes it more friendly/relatable.

I also would like to have the full Google Now experience (all the actionable cards I get on my tablet/smartphone) in Chrome for desktop. As it is, the feature is so limited I never really use it.

I like Google Now for what it does, I use it daily. At the same time Android is sorely lacking a personal assistant. To consider that even Microsoft has a strong personal assistant seems like it would shame Google into developing one, that's pretty bad. Right now it's hit or miss and dependent on the OEM, do all the OEM's have a personal assistant? Personally I'm stuck with the utter garbage that is S-Voice from Samsung.

They are boring. Whether you have a sports car or a latest rollsroyce or a ford fiesta, its the same grind on the road.

Wake me up when they bring something like flying cars.

I don't care if apple copies google or vice versa. Some things are just plain needed everywhere nowadays, like third party support for more system functions, or inter app communication, or better notifications etc. They still have their exclusive features.

----------

Less stupid projects like glasses or cars.

I want them to go full force with their self driving cars. That will push the rest of the industry to do the same. Remember, just because google is making the tech doesn't mean you only have to drive a google car in the future. I am sure the car companies of today are not going to give it away so easy.

Considering public transit is still not there in terms of comfort/crowdedness/always availability etc, i would like it if i could take the pain of pushing on the brakes or accelerator every 2 seconds off my feet in rush hour. Self driving cars is the future, like it or not.

I hope you are aware that the android engineers do not work on the car projects. If google drops self-driving cars, it will not speed up fixing of gmail or android. The guys from car projects aren't going to migrate over to android. I doubt someone who is more into smart control AI is going to be ecstatic building gmail interfaces.

I just realized what I really, really want to hear - that Project Silver is real and that it means I can buy a Note 4 and have the option to turn it into a GPE version. Or that the N4 comes out with a GPE version at the same time. As long as I end up with a pure Android Note 4 :D

Oh, and the Hera thing sounds promising too. And I wouldn't mind if a overall shaping up of the pure Android look came with it too, like consistent icon sizes etc. And a new design for the currently f-u-g-l-y app folder.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but wouldn't that mean a lot of the best features of the Note 4 wouldn't be available? Like all those little tricks you can do with the S-pen, or split screen multitasking, etc.?

Unless, I guess Android adds those features to the 5.0...

Samsung released their Note 3 in a developer version flavor, but I believe that was mainly to have an unlocked bootloader. I don't know if it had stock Android on it, or full touchwiz.
