Typically Nexus news isn't revealed at Google I/O, is it? I hope so though.

And I really hope to see Android N close the gap on all the TouchWiz features I love.

No, they don't typically announce Nexus hardware at i/o.

Not a huge fan of VR, but a new messaging service would be awesome to see. They have been teasing Jibe for a while now, so really hoping to see it become an official service.

Nexus phones are never mentioned at Google I/O. Maybe a slight hint to confirm the manufacture of the future Nexus phone, but that's it, at best.

Maybe, might see a new Nexus tablet, possibly.

Google I/O is about software and where Android is going, etc... not really about hardware.

I will be watching to see what other features they announce in Android N. If Google can tackle the mess that is messaging I will consider picking up a 5X and trying to go back to using Android and a Nexus. I always come back to my iPhone for iMessage and FaceTime.

A bit boring I suppose, but what i most hope to see are any changes to Android that require less OEM and carrier involvement in delivery of security updates.

I'd also like to see enhancements to Google Fit. I'd like it to be more like Apple Health (more emphasis on general health and not just activity levels)

Same for me

#1 item is change update structure, I want full version updates across all oems though, security updates aren't enough. Carriers should ideally be irrelevant like Nexus and iphone. Give them the option to simlock the device if it is in contract (like on iPhone) carriers don't need anything else.

A real imessage/facetime competitor would be great too (would have to be the default messaging app which surely would step on to many OEM/carrier toes)

If I remember correctly, the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 were announced and introduced at their respective Google I/Os.

I would love to see a new Nexus 7 tablet, but there hasn't been any rumours, so I doubt it will happen.

Former Googler Yogi Berra -- I mean, Huga Barra -- Tweeted that there'll be something exciting for Xiaomi to reveal at Google I/O.

What could it be?

Probably waaaay too hopeful for a Xiaomi Nexus smartphone. The article predicts some media player. Possibly TV or VR or even a music player.

Xiaomi will play an exciting part at Google I/O, apparently

I am hoping Hugo punches Sergey for sleeping with his gf.

If no Jerry Springer action, hoping Xiaomi announces US expansion. I love love love my Mi 3. By July 19, I would have it for 2 years which is generally than most phones I keep. I dropped it twice on tiled floors and not a scratch on the glass. Quite reliable and still smooth. But the only things that bother me is no expansion slot and my battery is degraded. I don't know where to go or know how much it will cost to replace it. Should be cheap though. Hoping Xiaomi expands more to other countries because their Xiaomi Philippines Facebook page seems dead.

If they can release Nexus device that would be awesome. But it seems HTC will have that covered for the next few years. So I am hoping for a Xiaomi Android One device. USA isn't a third world country but I wished Android One gets released there for people who can't afford a Nexus but still want their software updates. A Xiaomi Android One would destroy most players in the sub-$100 segment including Motorola, ZTE, and Microsoft Lumias. Americans will finally experience the Xiaomi flash sales like it is Black Friday once the store opens but for online.

More territory expansion, please Xiaomi? And more Android One devices, please Google?

Google Home sounds really interesting.

Imagine that paired with Nest?

I've been waiting for the Amazon Echo equivalent from either Apple or Google but if I'm honest, I think Google can offer much more functionality considering how pervasive their services are. I see and hear all this love for the Echo but I'm just not a big fan. I picked up the Echo Dot and it barely gets used in our house. I'm a longtime Amazon user, have had Prime for years but I just don't see what's so great. The voice commands have to be very specific---if you don't know the correct phrasing or syntax of the action, it often fails. You have to learn what commands will work from a constantly updating list. For example, asking the results of a sport event has to be worded just right or Alexa comes back with 'I don't understand'.

And as far as setting timers or alarms...Siri or Google Now work just great for that already. Voice Purchasing is only useful if you regularly order the same items. I don't use Amazon Music or Spotify so that functionality is limited. Traffic updates need to have a preset destination address added to your Alexa app. I listen to the Audible recordings integrated into the Kindle books I purchase but progress isn't synced to the Echo from other devices so it can't pick up where I left off on my phone and vice versa. She's not very good at general research questions either. Maybe if I had a bunch of compatible smart home functionality I'd find it more useful.

I just find Siri or Google Now already more capable and if either Google or Apple offer an alternative that tie into their ecosystems and a centralized Home type hub, I think either would be far more compelling.

One topic I would like discussed, is if the upcoming Nexus phones, will be promoted and launched on carriers this Fall ? I read last winter, that half the Nexus team was up in arms very upset on how it's being sold only on Google Play store, and that majority of the team wants to see the Nexus phones out all over, and easier for the public to buy, and know about, and promoted in stores all over the U.S and Europe.

Wonder if they will make that happen this year ?

I think I agree. It'll be interesting how they position this. And of course what it's capable of.

^ Reading the best and worst Android releases.

My favorite is still KitKat (4.4) and it is also my favorite chocolate bars. I haven't tasted Marshmallow yet but I am aware how nice it is to have the Doze feature although I have double tap gesture to Greenify and Hibernate. I get only 1-2% overnight drain with my LG even if the radio signal is on. Making your sd card combined into internal one is a great feature from MM if you download alot of movies using a torrent app.

My least favorite is Gingerbread (pre-Matias Duarte era) followed by Jelly Bean because JB removed the No Lock app ability and wake screen with volume button. JB might have been huge with Project Butter, but it also was a RAM hog and battery life wasn't quite as good yet until KitKat arrived with Project Svelte. I feel indifferent with Lollipop but I can understand many Android users hating that release because of stability issues, memory leak, and removing features.

I agree with one poster. If KK was the two-year refinement of ICS/JB, hoping Android N is a two-year refinement of LP/MM. Nutella, NERDS, or whatever it will be called will be the 3rd season of the Material Design era, so expect refinements. If Android N is truly that good, then I hope Google releases more Android One devices here in the Philippines. We have sub-$100 Android Ones from our local brands (Cherry Mobile One, MyPhone Uno) that received Marshmallow last year while most of the 2015 Android flagships had to wait for months.

The better Android gets, the better if Google teams up with more OEMs and releases more stock Android devices beyond solely on Nexus devices.

This Google Assistant is VERY cool. I love the UI and conversational aspect of it!
