I mean cool stuff, but all could have just been done in hangouts all along. And still not a standard RCS messaging platform.
[doublepost=1463594234][/doublepost]Google just doesn't seem interested in knocking the stigma that they just build and abandon prototype apps.
That's my HUGE problem with Google. It seems like every app is beta and it'll get abandon in the next year or so. All of this stuff could have been put into Hangouts and made it a huge update.

You know how Apple is...they will NEVER play the guinea pig role. That's for other companies. Apple ALWAYS wait. If you want cutting edge, then Apple isn't going to give it to you.
I think they were with 3DT.....

I'm not sure I fully understand this:
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-n-will-support-seamless-updates

Android N will support seamless updates similar to Chrome

This new feature will be similar to how Chrome handles its updates. In this case, the older version of Android N will be able to seamlessly switch into the new version, separate from the rest of the phone's data. That means all those "Android is upgrading" prompts after system updates will be gone.

All of this is due to the new JIT compiler, which speeds up the update process for Android N. It should also lead to 75% faster app installation. Also, the amount of installation storage space for Android N apps will be 50% less than before.

Stay tuned for more news from the Google I/O 2016 keynote event.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Wow, loads of cool stuff, love the improvement in speed and auto updates, let's hope manufactures support this. Shame you still have to say Ok Google but I guess it's the best way to ensure it doesn't accidentally get activated.

And for those finding it boring, well this IS what a developers conference is SUPPOSED to be like. Seeing as the majority of the audience are Android developers their to discuss new ideas and the new systems and updates.

Google Home actually looks pretty promising.

Allo sounds powerful and impressive, but agree with everyone else about the introduction of yet another messaging app. What is Google's plan for Hangouts then? Or Messenger? Wasn't Messenger supposed to replace Hangouts? And now Allo is supposed to replace Messenger?

What is the gameplan here, Google?

I would also like to say, it is VERY NOTICEABLE how many women are front and centre for Google here! Apple should take a lesson from this....
[doublepost=1463598288][/doublepost]Ok, so some of it was a bit me too, some of the script was a bit cheesy! But what they are doing is very cool, the amount of work they have done / do to integrate everything must be ridiculous! Just so you can do things seamlessly.

I wonder if the instant app idea was taking from the new games consoles, because you can start playing the game whilst it's still downloading in the background? The data is broken up into sections.

I know this has been revealed with the developer previews, but I have to say again, I'm really liking what Android N is adding to the App Switcher:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...cluded-in-switcher-and-quick-switch-shortcut/

Android N Includes Tweak Of Recent Apps UI With 'Clear All' Button At Top, Only 7 Apps Included In Switcher, And 'Quick Switch' Shortcut

I especially love the "Quick Switch" feature. It's a simple addition, but one I've always wanted, and can see myself being used a lot. I constantly switch between two apps. This will just make things quicker.

Good demo:

I'm really excited about the Google Assistant and Google Home. Also curious to see improvements to Android Wear. Allo and Duo seem pretty cool as well but as with any of these types of apps from Google, user adoption is critical and I don't see anything different to change the past issues.

The VR stuff seems quite promising as well. My greatest hope though is to see more high quality hardware make by specifically by Google to best take advantage of all of this. The inconsistencies between 3rd party OEMs is only of my personal pet peeves with the Android ecosystem. I want Google to set the bar for everyone else.

I can't stand this trend towards "simplifying" things. I got a google router as a gift, but when I hooked it up realized it was semi useless as there was absolutely no customizing or settings to it. Yeah I get it, soccer moms everywhere rejoice, but when it comes time to do things like forward ports, connect your babycam, etc, then good luck. I used it for an hour before it went back in the box and it's collecting dust in my basement.

Allo, what's up with that? Horrible name, but yet another messaging service. Is Hangouts officially dead? Will they never update Google Voice with new features? While I'm not an iOS guy anymore, their messaging system runs rings around anything google has come out with. What I keep getting confused about is why they don't leverage google voice, I'd even be happy to pay a nominal subscription for using it. Google voice has to be one of the absolute best inventions to come out of Google and it's an integral part of every single work/home day of my life. Interestingly enough I still use Hangouts Dialer because it lets me have 2 google voice accounts on one phone in a roundabout way.

I didn't see the VR stuff, will have to search for it. As someone who just returned my Vive I'm hoping that mobile VR comes out on top as the PC based systems are not ready for prime time.

These were pretty much my thoughts. Google Home looks like it could be awesome. Something really useful for everyone in the house. I also can see the allure of Allo and Duo. Both could be great - but it also depends on adoption. I also don't see why they couldn't just integrate all of this into a future update of Hangouts, work it into the web application, and allow people to text and make video calls from any computer/phone/tablet that could have Hangouts installed?! That would be INCREDIBLE. One of my biggest issues with Android is that there is no continuity like on iOS and MacOS. I want my phone to be able to talk to my Windows PC or Chromebook. I think this is where they need to put some focus. If I cold get some continuity, I'd probably go back to Google and Android from iOS. Google and Android is where my heart is, but a lot of their efforts seem great on the surface but seem to be half-arsed and then die off.

He doesn't see the whole picture. Apple finds a hardware existence where they feel comfortable and then they enhance that. Apple is usually okay at finding a market and making it better, but the idea that they don't play the guinea pig role is off the mark.
