A couple hundred bucks extra to get the phone a month early is worth it to many people. More so if you don’t have to watch money closely.
That was my whole point. And saying that someone is dumb for wanting something as soon as they can and pay a little more, is in itself dumb....

What's the point of earning lots of money if you're going to penny pinch? Might as well give it all to charity if you're rich and that tight.

Reminds me of those who win tens of millions on the lottery and change absolutely nothing. Pointless playing it.
I’m not saying that millionaires should deny themselves anything—but that the smart ones continue to save whenever they can. There’s also plenty of lottery winners who go bankrupt because of overspending, and Hollywood celebrities as well (one of them was Lena Headey from Game of Thrones—she might be in a better financial position now, but she was bankrupt at one point because of overspending).

Being unable to wait a couple of weeks in order to save hundreds so that you can get the product NOW is foolish. Few people would deny this. Might as well wear a dunce cap at this point. Instant gratification is unhealthy and foolish.

Don't compare the lavish overspending of foolish celebrities who let money go to their head to someone who spends a couple hundred extra on something they've most likely been looking forward to for months to be released.

This has gone way off topic and all started because you labelled people dumb. You would say that, being a student who needs to watch what they spend. I'm all for saving money where I can, but some things are worth it to me. And that doesn't make me (or anyone else) foolish or dumb. Harshly judging others based on your own situation? Nah.

I’m not harshly judging anyone because of my situation. Like I said, few people, no matter their income level, would say that choosing to buy something immediately instead of waiting a few weeks to save hundreds is smart. And, again, I’m referring to people who knew that the discount was coming shortly. Anyway.

back on topic.
my iphone SE starting playing up, luckily it was only a few months old so costco gave me a refund. i was going to just buy a pixel 3a for $399 from google (canada). but it worked out cheaper to get a pixel 4 on a plan. It basically cost me $175 for the phone over 2 years as my plan didnt change in $, i just had to change providers.

so far i'm liking the phone a lot. i also got a google nest hub max, which is great. we love being able to add all the family photos to google photos and have them on the display.

the pixel 4 camera is crazy good.much better than my wife's new iphone especially in low light.

I was an apple customer for 25 years. this is my first non apple smart phone. they lost me as a laptop customer earlier this year with the utter crap they call macbook pros these days. my pixelbook go is much nicer in every way.
the only apple product i still use is my mac mini, and i only like that as i dont have to stick with apple accessories such as keyboards, mice etc.

the only thing i dont like about the pixel 4 is the size. it's too big for my liking. but it's about the smallest modern phone right now, and it feels much lighter than my old iphone XS which i had last year. i dont want to buy another SE as ios13 is terrible at this point. and im kind of happy to vote with my wallet against apple. im tired of spending $$ each year just to deal with apple's crappy failing cables etc, usb c is a joy in comparison. plus having my laptop and phone on the same cables is very nice.

the only thing i havent figured out on the pixel is reminders. i liked the badge showing on the reminders app on ios each morning. so far ive found the notifications on the pixel arent so in your face when i first check my phone in the morning as they have gone off during do not disturb hours. but its nice being able to shout reminders at the google hub and have them instantly on my phone too.

overall im happy. battery life while not the best, should easily last me a day for my use. charging is insanely fast anyway. the software is very intuative, and pleasent to use.
i just need to add my old custom ringtones from my computer and it'll feel very familiar in no time.

The 4 XL was $614 today. I still didn’t have interest at this price. I’m sure it’s a great phone but I’m enjoying my current setup too much right now.

That's not too bad. Wonder if it's a panic move to counter the Samsung S10 and note 10 lite? ?

I am back on a Pixel 4 (XL this time) after my Xperia 5 fingerprint reader decided to just stop working. But that's another story.

I was enjoying using an Android device and decided to try an XL given that these had £100 off since New Year.

The battery issues of the smaller 4 were enough to put me off going there again and so far I've been really impressed with the 4 XL.

Battery results are way better than what I'd expected.

The phone is still a little too unwieldy for my hands but I am adjusting. I went with black this time which I much prefer and I actually like the glossy back as it is easier to grip.

I'm not sure why people always say the matte back is textured for grip, as for me it just makes it feel more slippy. A clammy paw on shiney glass is way more grippy! :p

XL is definitely the way to go for me though. I have 90hz set in developer options and I motion sense on and these are my battery results for the day. Feel like I'm not compromising now whereas I really was when I had the smaller model as I had to turn everything off to just get half decent battery, and even then it was still shoddy.

Are any UK banking apps supported by Face unlock yet?

I feel the same way about the iPhone 11 Pro. Literally my only complaint is that they made the phone slippery where the X/XS back was super grippy.

I missed the sale at Best Buy and Amazon the other day, but it hasn't changed my desire to try to snag one of these. I don't know why, but I've always had a love for Google's Android phones, issues and all. My favorite phone of all time with my Nexus 5. I've been on iOS for the last 4 years and can't seem to pull away, even though I feel like they're insanely overpriced for what you get. Anyone recently jump from Apple to Android with the Pixel 4/4XL?

11 Pro to Pixel 4, no regrets.
I do still have my 11 Pro though, I don't think i'm going to get rid of it but it's not my daily driver anymore.

I've always been a fan of Google's own version of Android, I've had the Nexus 5 + 6 and the Pixel 1, 2, 2XL, 3a and now 4 (not XL).

I have also had every gen of iPhone so it's not a big swap for me lol.

I also had the Nexus 5 and 6. Always loved those phones. Jumped to iOS with the 6s Plus back in December of 2015 and have basically only used iOS since then. My wife use an S10 and every time I mess with it I really miss being able to do anything with my phone other than arrange icons! I also don’t like the extortionist prices of Apple.

How’s the battery for you on the 4? I was looking at the XL because of battery but I prefer the smaller phone.

I've had most iPhones since the iPhone 2 right up to the 11. I've also had Mac computers since the late 90s.

Last year I got a pixel book go and then just got the pixel 4. I'm now done with apple. The pixel 4 is better than any iPhone. The battery life is fine. I finish the day after 16 hours off charge with easily 40% or more left. If you do need more it charges back to full in about 20 minutes in most cases.
I love the integration. I felt like apple you had to force things to work together. This is simply better.
Once my mac mini dies I doubt I'll ever buy apple again. They used to be amazing. Now just overpriced sub par stuff. And I'm so happy to be done with their crappy cables.
I also got the phone for about 1/8 of the cost of my last iPhone. I normally buy outright but you can get way better deals on plans for these phones than anything apple. In total it's costing me less than $200.
My only regret is I wish the phone carriers had the orange phone. That colour looks great.

I also got a best buy gift card when I got the phone. So I used it to get a nest hub max. That's also superb and I love the photos I take on the pixel appear on the nest hub right away. My family love the pictures and for the first time I'm actually interested in taking pictures on my phone. The camera is amazing and my wife keeps using it over her 11 pro due to the quality and the fast integration to the Google nest.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I still use Google services for just about everything. The only thing I really like of Apple is iMessage. Other than that, I don't use anything Apple. I'm really wanting to break out as I'm starting to feel trapped the longer I use Apple. And I also feel like they just put out really overpriced, yet solid, stuff. But you can get the same thing from a $400-600 Android phone as compared to the $1249 iPhone.

Agree with this post wholeheartedly. Finally with the settings tuned down just right and 90hz off, I'm getting anywhere between 12-14 hours per day, which is plenty for my every day usage. Since Podcasts and Spotify seem to be the final things taking up so much battery on my Pixel 4, I started to use those apps on my iPad Pro, exclusively, and it has extended the life of my Pixel 4.
