Yeah not letting Google near my photos not with their laundry list of data violations and data mining techniques. Why I pref Apple iOS to Android. This is just the Gmail app that people think they need on their phone. I’ll say it a million times I will never trust Google.
According to Statista, Apple's ad revenue will be estimated to be around $14 billion by 2027. Where do you think Apple is getting this data from to target ads?

I'd reckon that most people take a picture to capture a memory, not some mystical "essence of a moment in time." There's nothing metaphysical about this and, in any case, I haven't seen any capabilities here that you wouldn't also be able to achieve with Photoshop. The only difference being that apparently this is only permitted if you're a 'creative professional' and have put in the time, sweat and tears to learn the software.

Take the thing where a user can combine multiple pictures so everyone smiles, has their eyes open and whatever else. Does it really matter in 5 or 10 years that this is a combination of 5 moments in time that happened within 5 seconds of each other? Does that really present a false memory? Not really.
Provided everyone there WAS happy, and there wasn't some surly, pouty teenager ruining the day for everyone, who just happened to smile for one second because uncle Jack fell over a dog and broke his teeth....;)

I would argue that combining multiple photos to catch a smile is fundamentally different from swapping out a bad sky for a good one, moving people closer together than they were, etc. The difference to me is the attempt to capture a real memory vs. the attempt to replace a memory with a hypothetical better one.

Have you seen the ads for generative AI editing of photo's? My favourite is a kid using a small trampoline to gain height on a jump to dunk a basketball, and then the trampoline is edited out of the image. We already risk living in a post-truth world - I see no reason to promote lies in our everyday life.

it works very good I took the pic on the eclipse then I added a famous NYC DJ to be on the moon. the eclipse pic is mine the djs pic is not

The thinking here boggles my mind.

If you take a photo, isn't the point to capture what you are seeing/experiencing? What is the point of putting imaginary things that never existed into it? Why not just skip the photo-taking altogether and create some art instead?

Sigh

the point is if u take a pic and u have ppl photobombing u or there by accident and this r pics no one is posin but random shots like at a wedding or celebration and u want to remove unwanted ppl .

or if u want to take pics at brooklyn bridge which is always crowded u want to remove ppl so u r the main focus of the pic

For all the complaining about what this does to images, a lot of users will benefit from it. The vast majority are not photographers; they just point and click on a phone. If they get something that will improve/fix the image to make it the way they intended, that is a valuable benefit to so many.

and Google isn't doing this for the goodness of heart it wants ppl to upload pics to Google cloud instead of icloud and increase its services rev which apple is also trying to do sometimes with malicious ways. like by upscaling 12mp to 24mp so they can make more money since the only thing growing is services rev

Not that i want to make my photos fake but i'd prefer to wait on iOS 18 to bring something similar to be used on the native photos app (like most iphone users)
I'm sure it'll be amazing too. Like how good portraits look when you take them with the "stage light" options. It was terrible when it launched and it's still an embarrassment.

Good to hear that it is coming to iPhones. Would have been good if the basic plan from Google had this feature.

This image where people are camping, is that from official Google press-release?

If yes they need to fire their whole marketing department.

AI REPLACED the CLOUDS and SKY!
It turned photo, a certain life moment that people wanted to capture into… fake.

Did the AI engineers who work for Google ever try real photography? Do they know how hard it is to capture the proper exact moment? Photography is image hunting, you gotta grab this exact shot, not paint it with stupid live Photoshop machine.

Remember the controversy with Samsung live AI camera when guy pointed it at his lightbulb and after taking a shot phone turned it into a moon. What the actual f…

If this is the actual feature – they are ruining the art of photography. I hope Apple won’t copy it in their new phones. I got already tired of excessive noise removal in new smartphones, I don’t want them to also model what I see in the exact moment of life

The results will be about as satisfying as when people start asking generative AI to make pop music, design houses, movie scripts or write novels. Some creative acts, like composing a photograph or even a snapshot, should not be left to machines IMO.

No way will Apple allow google to offer something like this and they don’t. Something has to be coming in iOS 18… Google trying to get a 6 month head start and convert some users.
apple don't have the ability to offer anything like this as google take your photos and use them to make things like this possible
apple don't do that
