Welp, it's good chatting with y'all on a potential switch. Glad I'm not as trigger happy as I used to be and held off, lol. iOS 18.1 beta just came out with it's own photo magic eraser which was one of the things I really wanted and was a driver for me to consider the Pixel. Good job Apple, you pulled me back again, haha.

I had a similar problem when I got my Pixel 8 Pro last year at launch. Photos just looked muted and I didn't love the results. Everything appeared washed out.
After doing some digging I found the culprit. Ultra HDR was turned on in settings and it was sapping all the colour out.

Not sure if yours is set to on but if you open camera app, go to settings, then advanced settings the option is right at the bottom. Knock it off and try snapping some!
If it's already off, then that's interesting!

It's funny because the description of ultra HDR in the options sounds like what you WANT your photos to look like, but it actually does the opposite . Or so I found.

Interesting so ultra HDR should be turned off?

Posting this here since you all might appreciate it. My collection of old Nexus devices (and a bonus Windows phone). We've come a long way, but these phones hold a special place with me. The Nexus 4 was my favorite design. These are probably going to start my home on fire at some point, but I can't part with them.

Nexus 4 - Running Android 5.1
Nexus 5 - Running Android 6.0
Nexus 5x - Running Android 8.1
Lumia 640 LTE - Running Windows 10 Mobile

The Nexus 4 was Google's equivalent to the iPhone 4 for Apple--a quantum leap in feel and build quality. It looked and felt so much more premium than any of their predecessors or I'd argue, the following Nexus models until the Nexus 6P. The Galaxy Nexus was my first dip in the Nexus waters but the Nexus 4 felt so much nicer in the hand.

Mine went off at 415am just fine. And 425 435 445 455 when I hit the damn snooze. Missed my workout this morning. 🤦‍♂️

One thing that sucks it won't ring on my watch ultra with the Pixel. Only works with Samsung phones I guess.

When you say won't ring on your GWU, do you mean the alarm or phone calls?

After using it for a few days. This is the best Pixel flagship yet. The last one for me for the Pixel 2 XL panda version.

Everything about this Pixel 9 XL is great. Very smooth in daily use and non-gaming apps. Vapour chamber works wonders, camera is 95% there. Video needs work. Build quality and in hand feel is the best.

The modem is good and battery life is very good. It’s a very big upgrade over the Pixel 8 XL. Little things make a huge difference and oh the screen is excellent!!!

Anyone having any luck with glass protectors? I bought LK brand (always buy that brand) glass and the fingerprint is borderline unusable. I thought it might be a problem due to the new FP but wanted to give a try anyways. I turned on the option to increase sensitivity for use with screen protectors, but I still have to push down REALLY hard and it only works 50% of the time, if that.

Probably going to get a plastic film instead.
I have opted to just use PET film screen protectors and stopped with the tempered glass. The fingerprint scanner works fine.
