Whether or not this rumor is true, I hope that there are more phones with stock Android in the future. I feel like there is a gap right now for stock high end phones at smaller sizes. I'd like some options in the 4.5-inch range with a 1080p screen, a good camera, and stock Android. A Z1 Compact GPE would be nice.

I wish the Moto X had a 1080p screen and a better camera. It's a perfect sized phone for me and it has great battery life. I've used one side by side with my iPhone 5s and it's really not that big, especially considering the screen is 0.7" larger.
I do not think OEM's would push google to discontinue the nexus devices, just tone down the ambitions a bit with the entire nexus line. Android business model fails to work efficiently if google starts to use its seemingly endless capital to design hardware that competes or bests that of the likes of HTC, Samsung and LG...And i really dont see much benefit for google, unless they can generate the same sort of revenues with the nexus line as they can by keeping OEM's happily married to android (through search and advertisement)..Tizen on wearables is a start, i really do not see tizen moving to phones anytime soon in any significant manner..Windows OS has the same business model as Android (At the macro level) and who knows where it will be 3,4 or 5 years from now. For Google its all about keeping android past that 75-80% worldwide marketshare and raking in the revenue from search and advertisements..Come to think of it, i know only a few people who do not use google search on their iPhones and iPad's..so the scope of revenue from mobile devices is huge for google..Why would they want to mess this up
