I just tried it, fully expecting you to be correct and the iPad to freeze because there are definitely still some glitches there. Worked fine though, started with notes, brought in Safari in split then made it go into slideover and everything was fine. I even tried moving it around left to right, split in split etc. Probably some small detail we’re missing to repro though.

It’s exactly that. Whatever they did to the “window manager”* in iOS 7 they have never quite got a handle on or fixed and things seem to regress randomly. Eventually they get things smooth in each iOS cycle but I suspect the underlying issue never get fixed.

*for want of a better term, given there are no windows in iOS

damn.... it kills my ipad EVERY single time....
submitted a ticket. nothing yet....
interesting..

Good luck and thanks for reporting it to Apple. Will likely benefit us all in the end.

If you do find more specifics post again and I’ll try to reproduce.

Hmm. What am I doing wrong then? I tried to reproduce as closely as I could and described what I did. Anyone?

how to kill an ipad on ios 11

open notes app
open safari .... make it go side by side with notes.
'un-tile' safari and try to make it a floating window

tada...you're now stuck with a non responsive ipad.

anyone else with this issue?

Hmm, I tried to reproduce on the GM on an Air 2 and it seemed to work as it should. It's been upgraded from iOS 8 (it was new in box when I took it out) straight to the 11 PB 6 to the GM for what it's worth.

I just went back to 10.3.3 . Didn't mind the performance so much as I did that the battery life took a huge dive. It shaved about an hour of battery life on my 7 Plus, which I'm not prepared to live with.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus (256GB) and I just downgraded back to iOS 10. Animations/transitions were choppy, screen would become unresponsive at times, and my connection to my car (to listen to music) would no longer via USB cable.

I've studied this extensively, and there is no consistency or explanation for many scenarios where it's undesirable to have this input blocking. The iOS11 example I gave you, it turns out iOS8.4.1 it allowed input during animation too, but Apple blocked it on iOS9 and iOS10, and unblocked it in iOS11. If you are curious there is an extensive thread about it here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...responsiveness-due-to-input-blocking.1942001/

Input blocking is the top reason I won't consider another iOS device of any kind unless it's addressed.

I would use the word "until" but at this point, I don't think Apple gives a hoot.

They had a ton of stuff to code in with 11 - iPad features, a version for the iPhone X as well as everything they usually do, so yeah, expect it to be a little sub optimised until the later .releases...

I think for some people they’re using their device since forever, or using old backups and thus have old files and all that stuff.

An example is when I upgraded my iPad 2 to the Air, I restored from iTunes backup, and my Air was slower than it should’ve been. I couldn’t even play Infinity Blade 2 correctly as it had massive frame drops and such. I restored it to new and, wow, it sped things up immensely even for stuff like web browsing and the home screen.

I had that backup since the iPod Touch 1g so it was bound to have lots of left over files that did something to performance.

A way to “freshly” restore and keep all your stuff is using iCloud backup as that does it differently which doesn’t restore a bunch of unneeded files like iTunes backup does. Give it a try and I’m sure you’ll see an improvement in some way.

Yes on iPhone SE, I do see a ton of sporadic stuttering, slow downs, unresponsiveness.
[doublepost=1505409590][/doublepost]

I hate that kind of artificial input blocking, it's all over iOS.

I had major slowdown issues on my SE, too.

I documented why I thought I was having issues in my specific case here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-11-gm-optimize-iphone-storage-not-working.2067000/

In my case, doing an Erase all settings & content and restoring from iCloud backup (with iPad assist) had me back to a buttery smooth state.

Even now, a few days later, iOS 11 is still running buttery smooth on my SE.

Interesting, I’ll have to try that because battery life is also abysmal, it’s probably related.

I don't have UI lag on my 7, but the change in how the home button acts is a huge no no for me.

The delay between pressing the home button and the app closing is extremely noticeable and you can no longer cancel an app from opening mid animation by pressing the home button. Those two changes make the phone feel slower to use, but lag wise it's fine.

I seem to have slight stutter/lag when opening from the dock on my iPad 10.5. Wonder if this will be fixed by Tuesday. It is slightly distracting.

Anyone else having problems with control centre not responding with iOS 11?

It's a bit laggy for me at times. For example, when you tap to turn on personal hotspot in control center, it takes a moment for the button to turn green. The flashlight button also has a little bit of lag that wasn't there in iOS 10.

This sort of lag is so obvious and annoying that I'm surprised Apple doesn't address it during the beta period. It always feels like it takes until iOS x.2 for them to fix this stuff.

Are you sure you're not just using it more? I noticed this too, then I realized I was fiddling with the phone a lot more than usual because it's a new iOS version to play with.

Half the time on my ipad mini 2 I have to choose control center from the AssistiveTouch menu (home button is shot) swiping up doesn't work 99.9% of the time.

I have a 6S Plus with ios 11 gm and have a 7 Plus on ios 10.3 and the 6S feels faster, than the 7 because they’ve optimized it. When i put ios 11 on the sept 19 on the 7Plus im sure it will be faster than my 6s Plus.

Exactly what's stopping me from updating. It's like they're intentionally making the phone slow! Why!
