I believe there are three types of display:

1 - no lines
2 - faint lines
3 - very noticeable lines

I think the third type is the minority, and if you get one then return it, the next should be better.

I have a 'type 2' but it really does not bother me, of course I would like perfect display, and I will upgrade to Rev.C if they have fixed the problem by then purely for this reason. But for now, I prefer to have a faint lined MBA than no MBA. The MBA does so many things so well it is worth this small sacrifice.

And for all those that say, 'we shouldn't have to put up with this', or 'i'm paying for a premium product, so why don't i get one', I do agree, but I am not going to not have a MBA just to make a point. As Scottsdale said above, life is too short, make the most of what is available.

I've had my MBA three weeks now and I only notice the lines on white backgrounds (iTunes, Safari, iPhoto). But once I have gotten over noticing it again I soon forget and carry on with what I am doing.

Apple LOVES customers like you, I'm sure.

I'm jealous though, I only wish it didn't bother me, but it does. Hugely. Annoyingly. Frustratingly. Just glad I have existing Mac hardware to see me through my needs, work and play.

Scottsdale's comments were I'm sure in the context about waiting to buy a new Mac in the hope of a spec upgrade - something that is as pointless as waiting for tomorrow (hint: it never comes ;))

What gets me about the MBA screen is the lack of QC. If all of the screens were the same, say 'faint lines', then fair enough, it is then by default 'characteristic' of the model. Doesn't mean to say it's right anymore than the 1.67 G4 Powerbooks should have all suffered narcolepsy.

However, there ARE perfect crisp MBA displays out there, which means Apple's QC has failed. And no-one with a dodgy display should accept it. By doing so, it allows Apple to lift that carpet higher, and sweep harder. Anyone expecting them to actually acknowledge the problem openly is dreaming. It'll be stonewalled and quietly, behind closed doors, rectified at some indeterminate point in the life-cycle where it becomes economically preferable for them to do so.

I agree with dubhe!

has anyone had their screen replaced through apple care?or received a screen without lines?

Im scared that having the screen replaced will mess up my air in some way. (Weaken the hinges for example.)

With all respect, I do not believe that there are any of these screens without lines. However, it is true that the degree of how bad these lines vary a lot.

If anyone has one without lines, I would pay premium for that ;)

At the end of the day, it is what it is. There are many who obviously do not see the lines or are not bothered by them. I have attention to detail in everything I do, so I notice the slightest imperfections. We can argue back and forth, but the fact is I bought the product, noticed imperfections and returned it. I also do not feel I should have to do anything special (like visit an Apple store and pay extra) to get a working unit. To those who are willing to shell out extra money, more power to them. I'd rather take my $2499 + tax and use it elsewhere. I'm happy with the previous gen MBP I got from Amazon for $1599 and consider it a good deal. Likewise my Rev. A I picked up from Craigslist in perfect condition gets the job done.

Is absolutely right!

Not to mention the fact that similar LCDs in other models seem to be issue-free mostly. The MBA is a premium product (possibly too premium-priced for its own good ;) ) but the screen - lauded as a much better quality than the MB - is, in reality, plagued by a widespread issue like this which suggests anything but 'premium' QC.

Both of mine have now gone back and as much as I'm tempted by the notion of 'third time lucky' (maybe opting for the SSD model which mostly has the 9C9A display) I'm holding off pulling the trigger until I feel more confident of a fix. Or rev.C, whichever comes soonest.
