Good questions. I felt the same myself, until this scenario: I'm at the grocery store. Wife texts me, adds Italian Ices to the list of items she already texted me to get. Fine, whatever. When I get to the freezer, I see it is Italian Ice spawning season or something, and there is like 2*10^5 varieties for sale.
Text: "There are a bazillion of these things. Which one?"
Her: "The orange kind."
Text: "Half a bazillion are orange. Specifics please?"
(side note: I thrive on specifics. She fears/hates/abhors them)
Her: "The ones I got before. Don't get those other ones tho."

Text: "I'm emailing you a picture of them. Check your email and tell me"
Her: "I'm too busy. Just get the right ones."
So of course, I got four different kinds. Shotgun method. I got fussed at for the "wrong" ones, of course, but at least I got the right ones.
Had we had MMS then (we both have iPhones, btw), I could have "texted" her a picture, got a Yes or No, saved ten bucks, and saved some time.
MMS isn't for those of us who know/love/understand/use all the capabilities of our devices. It's for those who just want it all "to just work" without thought or effort.
Should have been there from Day One.
