darster, that's very good news.

Would you happen to have any Blu Ray rips remuxed (not downconverted but just transferring the full BD video file into an .m4v container) that maybe has some fast-moving action (lots of stuff happening on screen) to test? Lots of people are wanting to know if the new box can handle BD-level demands.

Some have posted that after the OS upgrade, :apple:TV2 had no problem with up to 25Mbps video remuxed from BD. Just wondering if :apple:TV3 (at 1080p) can handle it too.

Just got my ATV3 today. Full blu-ray rip of The Fifth Element remixed from the MKV plays and looks just fine on either the ATV2 or ATV3. ATV3 does look a little sharper (as it should). However I run everything thru a DVDO Duo video processor, so the 720->1080 up conversion for the ATV2 is likely better than most folks will have available.

Thanks for the update. What type/size display are you running the ATV to?

This may be wishful thinking on my part but can anyone check if DTS pass thru works

khollister, by "remixed" are you meaning remuxed? Is the movie about the same size as the MKV file or are you compressing it down with something like Handbrake (so that it is a lot smaller than the MKV)? I'm curious about the former (remux at 1080p) in which the video is not re-compressed but instead just transferred "as is" over to an m4v file container (which could easily result in a m4v that is 15GB-40GB in size). If that's the case, does Fifth Element have a high motion scene where just about everything on screen is moving and the camera is panning left or right? If so, do you see any negatives: blocks, pixelation, anything? Or does it look just as good as the same scene via Blu Ray?

Or are you saying you've used something like Handbrake to make a 720p file and that looks great on both "2" and "3"?

i want to see the teardown of this thing as some things aren't sure what is in it. Hurry up ifixit

Big question for me is, does the Apple TV 2 power cord work in the Apple TV 3or do I have to rip apart my entertainment center to run in a new power cord?

I thought it would work, but just had a little freak out about the possibility of having to tackle that project. I hate having to start rewiring in behind my entertainment center.
