Just got a 160Gb one today. Unfortunately, I haven't tried it yet as it's been syncing with my iTunes library & iPhoto albums since 3PM (it's 11:30PM now)

The syncing process is looooooong!!! I'll let it do its thing overnight and will play with it tomorrow morning. :)

So far, the installation is straight forward and very easy. The unit is just beautiful and simple, just the way Apple do things! lol :apple:

Welcome to the fold. Hope you are enjoying.

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, iTunes froze during the night and I couldn't try my Apple TV yet... It still has +- 3000 pictures to import...

I'll probably get to try it later today! :)

Got mine on Friday. Love it and the neighbors (yes 's') want one. Been using metaX to add the data to my handbrake created files.

Can you use the usb port on the back for a harddrive? Or is it for troubleshooting only.

Welcome!

The USB port in the back is not user-accessible unless you hack your unit.

If you need more hard drive space, consider and external drive hooked to your computer and stream your film from there.

I just picked up my 40 gig AppleTV last night! It has been awsome. I choose just to stream mine instead of waiting for it to sync. Luckly My Linksys wireless router and 4 port LAN switch sit in my entertainment center right next to the AppleTV so when I do go to sync it should not take that long.

So when does 2.0 come out? I was all set to rent a movie last night and was disappointed that the AppleTV does not have that functionality yet.

My NAS (dns-323) has an itunes server. I'm hoping I can stream from there and leave the computer off.

It is my understanding that this is not possible. iTunes is a server and, as such, needs to be running on a Mac or PC. You must stream through an active iTunes.

Anything you sync to your :apple:TV does not require iTunes to be running on another machine.

The setup I use - I encode at the best quality the Apple TV can handle using Handbrake. I then went back when I got my iPhone and using Visualhub created copies for my Portable Devices in which I will add to the title Portable Version i.e. -

Fight Club (Portable Version)

This makes it really clean and simple to know which versions will work on which devices I have.

I hope this helps - it took me a while to figure out this very simple technique of naming to help organize my content.
