As I said, I don't have credit problems, and money really isn't the issue here. Great how you just instantly think you know all about me. Unbelievable.

Well the info you give us is "My credit card failed the credit check" and "It's never done this before" What the hell do you expect us to think? The machines made a huge glitch for you only and the thousands who are activating the iPhone aren't getting it?

Island Dog, I think you should try again... Wishing luck! Sorry you're go through all this... must be very irritating!

Well, look back at what you told us. Basically, you failed the credit check and that is why you're returning it.

IF it was a glitch try the activation again - and then see them tomorrow if you get the same problem. You obviously want the phone (or you wouldn't have bought them) so don't be so eager to throw the towel in. It was probably just a glitch in the system - its getting overloaded from all the activations. Things are bound to happen.

But even with that said, don't lash out at us for just telling you the truth - if you have bad credit, and thereby have some financial problems (i.e. DEBT), you should really get those sorted out before you jump in line to buy a six-hundred dollar telephone.

If it was a flaw in the system, we're all terribly sorry we hurt your feelings but remember the fact that it was YOU that allowed your feelings to be hurt in this instance. You started the thread, and you told us you failed the credit check. What do you expect?

LOL. How many times have I stated I don't have credit problems? And where do you get this "my feelings are hurt" nonsense?

Some post bashing the OP have been pretty bad and have been deleted. As already posted in this thread there are glitches right now and VERY well may not be the OP's fault.

Again it has been a long day and any problems will be trying on us all after this wait.

Just try to be nice and we will all get through iDay.

yeah, edge is way too slow to get anything done with. Wifi is pretty zippy, though. (yes, I am using this post for keyboard practice... I lied about edge, it's only really painful in comparison. The keyboard autocorrect is pretty nice, but I am having a problem with the response speed of the keyboard; I know I could type much, much faster if it didn't miss keypresses when typing fast. In fact, i might actually prefer this keyboard over my sidekick, if it could actually keep up. Oh well. I guess that's what software updates are for!)

While you may not have problems with your credit from your end, you may have problems with your credit from the credit reporting agencies.

I would suggest that you check out your credit report to see why they are reporting credit problems. You never know what might be the cause.

My original question still stands...

Since you're surprised by this, why wasn't your initial reaction to go and see what they have to say? Instead of return it?

If you're sure this is their fault and not your own, why do you think this issue coming up is the end of you having an iPhone?

Sounds like a self-created problem.

The pre-approval has been up on apple.com for a few days, now. That would have solved it for you.

My question is the "quote" that you got from Island Dog's original post.

In post #9 you quoted Island Dog as saying "I have been turned down or had to pay a deposit for a phone, same thing with my wife."

However the "quote" was altered from the original post that read "I have NEVER been turned down or had to pay a deposit for a phone, same thing with my wife."

I would like to assume that the word never was accidently deleted from the middle of the quote but you should be more careful...:)

Secondly I am really surprised by the number of people that can tell you everything about your financial situation by that original post. For example:

"People with credit problems shouldn't be spending $600 for a phone."

"This whole iPhone thing is the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life! people with bad credit and pass due bills go to buy an iPhone then get pissed when AT&T wont activate it Oh the poor little baby is pissed and says he his taking his iPhone back tomorrow you stupid fool why didnt you spend that $600 on your old debt so you dont end up homeless later in life. This whole thing has got me on the floor laughing"

My credit score is in the 800's and make 6 figures a year and was turned down for a SMALL loan recently. Come to find out that it was a problem of false info on my report. I am not telling you my credit score to impress you, but to impress UPON you that there are *gasp* mistakes made every day on credit reports. If you did some research about credit reports in general you would quickly realize where I am coming from!

To those who have provided constructive feedback to the problem, there are many of you, I applaud you but to those with a "holier than thou" attitude that flaunt your ignorance by dissecting a persons financial situation from a few choice words you know nothing about Credit reports in general. Please do not try to sound wise by speaking like an idiot!

*end of rant*

Just to add to this.

Was in the AT&T store today and they had a few in with PRE-APPROVED credit getting this message.

SO it wasn't the OP's credit. There has been glitches.

So many so quick to judge.

After driving to Orlando to get this "phone" I take it home and unpack it only to discover AT&T wants me to personally visit a store to "discuss" my plan options. What BS!

My problem was that the credit reporting agency had a variant of my name and address on file. Now, to a human, they'd match, but to their computers, they didn't.

That's so weird. I have the worst credit in the world and like 3 other wireless companies in collections and 120-day-late payments on a credit card, and I got approved with no deposit. AT&T is the ONLY company that I do not have a deposit with!!! (WTF?) But hey, I won't question it. :D

Try your wifey's credit.

Agreed! Why are all these people giving you a hard time?

This is a legit gripe. Whether Apple or AT&T this shouldn't happen.

End of story!

I thought someone said this happens when you have a business account. Is that your case? If so a quick call to AT&T should get you straightened out.

Possible Fraud Alert/Financial Statement on Credit File

I had the same problem. iTunes informed me that I need to either get a pre-approval from the store, purchase prepaid, or start over again with the process. I went back to the store, the store called the "credit department" and the credit department informed me that I had a fraud alert (consumer statement that I forgot about from several years ago) and they just asked me a couple of questions about my credit and approved me for a $0 deposit. Got back home and activation went smoothly. So if you are receiving this message you may want to check with AT&T about any pending credit reviews that are waiting for verification...because of a fraud alert/consumer statement on your credit file. Doesn't matter if you initiated the statement or not, some credit bureaus (Experian mainly) will insert one if you just look at them sideways. By the way, my credit is not stellar so if anyone is holding out because of credit worries, it is worth a shot.

Shame on you!

Try paying the people you owe money to before you go getting into more debt.

Try paying the people you owe money to before you go getting into more debt.

First of all, I am in a debt management plan, but even after I pay the last payment to all creditors, it'll still be on my record for at least 7 years after that, affecting my credit score and decisions.

Second, I don't owe any "people" money, I owe a few faceless corporations money. (They're hanging in there, but doing just fine. )

Third, I am not getting into more debt, as I am not planning on putting the iPhone purchase on credit nor is a service the same as "debt."

Most importantly, I can't really function as a student, employee, friend, or family member in order to be a productive, positive member of society if I don't have any method of contact... I have no home phone, so I do need a wireless phone and some form of internet. Now I'll have it with me almost everywhere that I go and communicate marginally more efficiently. If my work calls me in, or I'm running late, or I need to check if class is canceled, or I am having a medical emergency, or I need to find out where a friend is located to find them, or I want to check on how my mom's injured shoulder is doing, I can't really handle those scenarios without some kind of a phone--therefore I think the service is pretty much required. The iPhone is a bit of a luxury, but as I said I'll be paying cash and I'll likely have it for at least a year, if not two.

Beyond all of this, shame on you for judging me and my situation and for trying to force your morals onto me when that's nothing to do with this thread nor my post. I was merely illustrating how lenient (merciful?) their credit score could be such as in my case.

THis is why I'm getting mine and activating at an AT&T store. THough longer, I trust people who are paid to do the job, rather then myself.

As stated earlier, this has NOTHING to do with Apple, AT&T, or the iPhone, if you have bad credit or something is wrong with your credit card, have it looked at, don't just get upset with Apple for notifying you of your issue...

Don't kill the messenger....

The messenger made an exclusive partnership with AT&T to offer the device. With that agreement they are bound and I fully expect customers to complain to Apple since it all goes hand in hand.

LOL. How many times have I stated I don't have credit problems? And where do you get this "my feelings are hurt" nonsense?

I'm not going to say you have credit problems, but I'm surprised that you bought an iPhone and have swung around in opinion so greatly by this that you're gonna return it? Did you even want the thing in the first place? Call them up and see what they say, it can't hurt.

I have never been turned down or had to pay a deposit for a phone, same thing with my wife. So now I can't do anything with this $600 "phone" until the morning. While driving to the Apple store to return this thing, I will stop by the AT&T store just to see what they say.

And Apple wants to charge me $49 for returning this thing too? I should have known better than to deal with AT&T, sorry to see Apple going this route.

Just to clarify its Apple who requires the return fee...not AT&T, so don't start blaming AT&T.

Also I'm typing this from my iPhone out in the middle of no where...this phone rocks ;)

At the risk of drifting off topic, damn. Those "faceless corporations" have shareholders and employees. So yeah, you owe "people" money. Just because it's through someone's 401k or their paycheck instead of a personal IOU doesn't change that fact.
