Soon!

Please report your experiences. Heat, random shutdowns, bigger vents? :D

I returned my CD MacBook for the C2D (luckily i was within the 2 weeks). The CD runs super hot, I'm hoping the new one will be better. Still hasn't shipped though, so I'll get back to you on the stats.

I just got my white one today.Just got back from the Apple store about a few hours ago. So far it does run cooler, quieter and it opens and loads much faster.Been doing some picture editing in Photoshop CS,and I am surprised at how well it handles it via Rosetta. My sister was looking at a Macbook, she was on a tight budget,so I sold her mine.I had the 1.83 CD white base model. So it worked out for the both of us.

No problems for me here. (Knock on wood!) I picked mine yesterday from the Eaton Centre in Toronto, and I'm very pleased. My first Mac, and I still can't believe I waited this long to switch to Apple.

There is almost no noise at all, it runs warm, but nothing I wouldnt expect from a powerful laptop. Not hot to touch either.

I will post my experience at a later time once I've had a better chance to play with it.

Good luck with everyone else.

Got my C2D MB for my 1 week old CD MB for free (dead right speaker)! Installed 2GB of RAM and I'm waiting to get a T8 Torx screwdriver tomorrow for my Seagate 120GB HD. It's too bad I can't say anything more so I'll be back tomorrow for the more comments.

Took my friends back today, whine and random shutdown......he left with his money back.....
Whoa that just sounds impossible. I had a CD MB for a week and there was no RSD but there was a tiny whine (it's a computer, and no computer is ever silent) and my right speaker went dead. Then again, I should check the SMC firmware version once I get mines up n running..

After using my C2D Macbook for a few days now, I'd say I've got some minor CPU whine, but nothing too bothersome. I'm fine with having some whine, but if something else goes wrong, I will return it.

Update

Hey everyone. I finally got my new MacBook up and running and here are my observations/concerns.

1. My C2D MB I got from Christiana Mall Apple Store was built between 11/6 and 11/12.
2. A concern I'm following closely is the battery life. My current battery capacity is 5148/5200 (my 1 week old MB had 5150/5200 before I returned it) and I got this yesterday. I have yet to calibrate my battery so that result may change.
3. The Mac OS X installation for my 120GB HD went w/o a hitch.
4. There is no RSD anymore and the MB has a new SMC firmware.
5. The MacBook's minimum fan speed is now 1800RPM instead of the previous 1500RPM in the CD MB. Also the fans sounds a lot quiet even at 3000RPM.
6. It seems like the C2D can tolerate higher temperatures because the fans don't even kick in at 60C unless I tell it do so. Therefore the temperature is HOTTER than the CD at default fan speeds (I could be wrong b/c this new MB has 2GB RAM and the previous MB had 512MB RAM).
7. It's also disappointing to realize that there IS a high pitch whine coming from the CPU but it can only be heard if your ear is like 2 inches from the keyboard (which is fine by me).
8. The vibrations (w/o SuperDrive in use) from the previous MB is gone now and the vibrations only occur when the SuperDrive is under heavy load, which is acceptable by me.
9. The poorly built previous MB I got had creaking sounds around the right speaker. This new one is solidly built with no sounds residing from the case.
10. The feel on the bottom of the computer seems cooler than what the smcFanControl numbers displays (heavy load = 73C but the feel on the outside wasn't all that hot).

Hope this helps,

Scott

Does the C2D dissipate less heat?

So, overall, the new macbook C2D is cooler than the CD? -- I went to my local computer store and touched the bottom of the Macbook Core Duo 2.0ghz with 1GB or ram, and it was really hot. I would not have it on my lap. I thought the Core 2 Duo would dissipate less heat. Am I wrong?

Make sure it's really a C2D. As there's no visible difference between the CD and C2D, many stores aren't changing the display models (which makes sense, as the C2D MBs are in short supply right now, so just keep using the previous version for the display model).

It was the old model, not the C2D -- but what I want to know is: Is the new model as hot as the previous one, or cooler.

Well it's almost a week having my C2D MB and I would maintain what I had previously said: the C2D MB is hotter by default (hovering around 132F while on Firefox instead of my previous CD MB that hovered around 118F) but if you want it cooler, you'll need to jack up the fans manually because this C2D doesn't have any feel for too much heat unless it gets passed 140F. :(

I'm currently trying to resolve an issue with my AirPort card that's having trouble connecting to my university's wireless network. I'm not sure why, either my AirPort doesn't like their 128bit WEP encryption w/ proxy or my school network doesn't like my AirPort card. Right now if I disconnect (like sleeping) from my school's wireless network, I can't reconnect until an hour later. It does however, connects instantly to my 64bit WEP encryption w/ no proxy at home. I talked to my university's computer services help staff and the Apple support on the phone and they were both stump with no solution.

Another AirPort problem is the communication with my Linksys router at home. My Linksys router provides 4 different 64bit WEP keys I can choose from. If I chose key #2, I would input the key on my MacBook and it would say it was the wrong password. If I input key #1 on my MacBook, it would say it's the correct password, but I can't connect to the internet. I would probably ask Apple support tomorrow about this problem.

So far, it seems to be ok. We'll be testing it tomorrow (WiFi, Remote, Heat, etc.) It is my first Mac. I had always loved the Mac design and quality.. and when I needed to buy my first laptop, after considering a Dell.. I told myself.. heck, my not a Mac?

I hope everything goes well, I can't wait till January to have my hands on it :D.. till then, everything will be online :p
