Graduation=Presents, and today, my parents are getting* me a 17 inch MBP, but forseeing this... I hinted that I wanted to wait til Merom (ok kill me) anyway, I can get any configuration and I am so excited!!!:D :D :D

So I was wanting to share the good news, and wanted to hear any speculation about any specs of the new 17 MBP...

Hard drive size? etc?

Thanks, I am seriously no bragging just excited, I'm coming from a dell (blarg 2.66 P4) and 12 inch powerbook 1ghz  :)

This is likly for school for Uni and that stuff, my family does that how ever we all pitch in for the person *each person adds a little cash from all Aunts and Uncles* and it was a 1k laptop, but i'll probly end up gettign a nice 12'' or 13'' MB/P because i'm the tech guy in my house:rolleyes:

The point is he got it for doing something... and it not every day

It might be over kill but its a gift and not your so get over it!

To the OP
Wait until Merom. as you have 1 decent mac to last you and you might be bragging a little but hell i would be too :)

Aww poor you coming from a decent pc and a powerbook and at 17 or 18 years old lol. Ask yourself this question...do you need a new computer? My guess, wait I know, that you will be more than capable with that setup come college in the fall. If you do decide to get one wait till August and the specs will probally be quite similar to what they are now excpet for maybe faster cpu 120gig hd etc

nice try, but I'm 20 and graduating COLLEGE thank you very much. I actually make money doing web design, graphic arts, and even editing local commercials, so I would appreciate a little respect and a lot less jealousy.

Way to go and all.

But you gotta understand that High School is and average challenge. Give it 3 years and you'll see things get tough. It's a bit of an insult if your parents offer you a very generous machine and then tell them that you'd prefer to wait and get something else. The updated Intel processors are a good 10+ months away.

EDIT: I stand corrected on the HS comment, but still relax on waiting, get what you can now, cause there is always gonna be something better.

Thanks, I'll be selling my comps afterwards. I hope to switch completely to macs at that point.

btw everyone, there are plently more blessed people around here, go look at the mac set-ups thread... sheesh

Man, just go for the MBP, don't wait! If you're coming from a 1Ghz Pb, the Core Duo will still feel like a kick in the pants either way!

Congrats on finishing school, too. And yes, I too am insanely jealous!

You're right, they just know I'm in no rush, so...

anyway, does anyone know about possible hard drive sizes? clockspeeds?

Please accept my apologies then. I too will be graduating from college soon and I know how much work it takes to graduate early in college. I hope my parents will help me get a new computer so I can upgrade from my 1ghz emac which is becoming pretty slow for me. Well in that case I say get one now, no more school so why wait?

wow what the hell is with everyones problem calling the him spoiled?? Is this a parenting advice board too? No its a mac forum so stick to giving parental advice on how to raise a kid and why not try and help answer his question?

By the way get one right before you leave for college.. That way something new might come out.. and even if it doesn't, it feels great to have a brand new laptop when you start out the year..

Congrats Peyton, that's an awesome present and no doubt well deserved. ;)

If you're in no rush to get it, perhaps it's worth waiting just a little longer to see what the future brings. The current hard-drive sizes are 120GB or 100GB, and I can't see them going up in size that much in the future.

...just excited...
I was wondering why it's 1am here and it seems like dawn, it's just your startling white smile of excitement (even at this distance):D

Only kidding! If you're doing advert editing you're gonna want the MBP17", I think it'll be a while before it gets any revision so go for it. If you weren't going to need the screen size I'd definitely wait to see what the next MacBook is like, I am.

Ooh, lucky

What school are you graduating from @ age 20?

haha, I suspect you're expecting a 'community college' answer, but I'm graduating from the University of Kentucky with two degrees, English and Communication.

I figured those 2 degrees are more usable than a telecommunications or marketing degree (because the English and Communications departments are much better) and I may want to teach english. And I also have aspirations to be a lawyer... we'll see.

Congratulations! While I consider my program to be exceptionally difficult, I would never be to even attempt an English Degree.

But there is one thing I do not understand. What is the point of this thread?

All of the specs of the new 17" MacBook Pro are on Apple's website...

Point is, my parents gave me the option of waiting for the merom chips, or getting one now, I don't NEED it now, but was wondering what the specs (maybe better HDD etc) would be better.

I've almost completed writing a couple books (fiction novels) and was thinking I would wait until they are done (I have a publisher) and then order it, kind of like incentive to get it done faster... I'm so anxious! I've been lusting over Apple.com for months now for the 15, now the 17s are like crazy sexy to me  :D

sorry, what is your program?

I can tell you the English program here is no walk in the park!

Hey, by the way, remember that time we were hanging out, and you said "If my parents ever decide to get me a new MacBook Pro, I'll totally give you my old Powerbook for free!"? Well, uh, I'm here to collect. I'll PM you my mailing address.

I can only imagine. :(

I am doing a Co-operative Engineering Degree, but have yet to chose a discipline. In the fall, I will most likely begin Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture.

Have fun with your MBP! Hopefully you will have the programs to properly take it through its paces. :)

I would just get the 17" since they are shipping for the first time yesterday and waiting probably means another 6 months or so... but that's just me. Congrats either way.
