Peyton, you lucky, lucky b......!!

Well done on the grad man, I'm currently in my 4th attempt at my last semester and hopefully this one's the charm. English and Engineering eh? Sounds like a well balanced course, creative and analytical sides at the same time, I've tried the same thing here with my BSc(chem) - stacks of random electives from renaissance art & literature to contract law to human relations management. I think it's the only way to go just quietly.

I'd kill for your patience - if my folks offered me a 17" MBP I'd have them in the AppleCentre before they had the word "book" out of their mouths.

And I still don't understand how finishing High School is called "graduation"? Cultural thing, don't flame me guys.

i don't think its a big deal asking if you can wait for the new chips, it makes sense. Anyway, now the asking part is over, i would definitely wait, you have an adaquate machine at the moment so waiting for the better processor, doubtless other upgrades and for the initial problems to be fixed seems like your best option. Congrats on graduating early!

well done, peyton!

if you want to go to grad school and study english, may i suggest northwestern in illinois. great school.

anyway, have fun with the mbp!:D

Congrats on the achievement, and the gift.
Why are people calling you spoiled for getting a Mac for college graduation?

My step-daughter is heading off to college this fall, and we are getting her a MacBook as soon as they are announced. I'm spec'ing it, so it won't be a low rent barely sufficient Mac. She'll get the software, hdd and RAM she needs, and a decent printer to go with it. Will also get her an external drive for back-up's, plus a new iPod to replace her 4G 20GB that died recently. As long as her school permits one, we'll also get an AExpress she can plug the printer and her speakers into.
She's no power user, so that will be more than enough to get her through college.

Congrats man, if you don't need it right now, wait for Merom, it'll be worth the wait trust me. That said, I just bought my self a MBP and am loving it. But then again I'll be buying myself a Merom MBP in 2007. :D

Double degrees in 2 years? Good job!

to be clear, I started school at 4 years old, went to college very young, and did it in 3 years. I wish I could have done it in 2 years but I am only one person! :D

Thanks everyone, I am incredibly jealous of you new 17incher owners, congrats to all the other graduates, whatever level you are graduating from. :)

And don't let people get you down. There will always be people that envy you. Been there, gotten over it and know it will happen again. Annoying yes, but nothing you would need to justify. Learn to live with what you achieved, be modest about it and stop caring about what other people think. It works, trust me. :)

Personally, the only reasons to hold off buying a Macbook Pro at the moment are these;

1/ The apps you use haven't been made Universal yet (and as Adobe products are ones I use now on a daily basis, it's something I have to consider).

2/ The few quality problems that some people have been talking about.

I don't see any point whatsoever holding out for upgraded processors when the software isn't out in numbers yet to even really test the current machines!
It's patently obvious that the Universal products run spectacularly well on Pro machines, so I don't really see much point in holding off over this.

The other points are more significant though. Each day I think I'll get a Pro, then decide to go for a semi-stopgap with a PB. And then I revert back to a Pro because of future proofing things!

If you;'re happy with what you've got at the moment, then I suggest waiting, purely because of my first two points. If the processors get an upgrade, then that's more of a bonus than anything else, surely?

FWIW, I hear 160GB notebook drives are on the way. If you don't need one now, wait a bit.

And congrats!
