The Macintosh and its ideas of personal computing for everyone. Hands down. The everything would be worthless without it.
Hard to argue with that. I can't make up my mind. I just don't think I could vote for iPod/iTunes. They have been huge for Apple, but for me the biggest innovation has to be something with computers.

Hard to pick just one. But the following would appear on my list of top Apple innovations:

1) iPod
2) iMac
3) Mac OS X (gotta love Aqua :D )

hands down iTunes. there are plenty of mp3 players out there that function just like the iPod (just don't look nearly as cool), but iTunes has changed the way music is purchased. You hear a song on the radio and wonder what it is? now you can buy just the song you want on impulse and its all at your finger tips. How many people would buy a music video at a store? and now iTunes, anyone can. Same goes with tv shows and soon with movies.

i would have to say the imac, if i recall, its what saved apple from going down the *******. a few years ago a won this contest for an imac at a camp, i thought it was an imac g4 (yippy) but it was only an imac g3(used). i was a huge pc guy then, now, macs are the best thing since sliced bread.

Yep, and I agree that the first Mac and the Apple II were the undoubtably the anchors that made Apple a common name in the early 80s and to some extent today.

The iPod was brilliant, but were not looking back far enough. Apple really brought the idea of a personal pc to life. Something that was useful, simple to operate and contained everything in a neat hardware package. Those ideas are still being applied by Apple today and still every bit as effective as they were 30 years ago.

Jobs had a great idea, and it's refreshing to see that he hasn't deviated from his core beliefs when it comes to implementing new technology. Everyone else is trying to reinvent themselves, while Apple continues with the same train of thought and fundamental principles that made them what they are today.

Anybody who was growing up around the time the Apple II debuted, won't forget how much fun Lemonade Stand was. That simple game which I played during math class eons ago introduced me to computers but most noteably, Apples. They were great then, and they are great now!

Actually, Jef Raskin had a great idea…;)

I totally agree with you though. :)

hmmm, this is a really hard question as Apple has done many important and innovative things..... here's what I'll say:

1) GUI (orginal Mac)
2) OS X
3) Apple II

Those were probably the most important to the world, in the GUI, the best OS ever that began in its design in 1989, and the most important to the company, in the Apple II. I suppose you could go on to say that the iMac is next, then iPod+iTunes becuase both of those saved the comapny, and made it what it is today. But I think we must look back farther to what Apple did with personal computing and not music.

I believe you are basically reffering to the Powerbook 100, the first mordern laptop. Before that Powerbook, laptops were pretty much impractical. That definately deserves some attention.

Steve Jobs:)

If it weren't for him, the Apple would probably never have been built. All Woz cared about was working for HP, he didn't care much about "changing the world" etc, like Jobs. Jobs is the one who convinced him to go into business with him.

But the best Apple product, in my opinion, is OSX and the iPod.

I agree. Steve Jobs (my first idol) is responsible for so much of what makes Apple.

Yes, this was truly a significant invention that Apple pioneered.

Today, there is not one laptop that doesn't follow this format.

BTW, I still have my PowerBook 170 and will never sell it. It along with the PB100 and PB140 were introduced in 1991 and changed the laptop format since that time.

Cool, I did not know that Apple pioneered that technology. Kudos once again to Apple! :)

I believe that Apple was the first computer manufacturer to sell machines with an internal CD-ROM drive. That's really quite an important development, if correct. The mouse wasn't used before Apple mass-marketed it either.

I think the GUI is the most important development, but in terms of network/interface technologies, bringing Firewire and Airport to the masses is incredibly important in terms of the path computing is taking.
