I went on to play a round of golf with Greenfinder at Doubletree in San Diego, CA, yesterday. The interface is simple, but effective and easy to read under the sun with the display brightness reduced to the minimum due to the battery concern. I turned off wifi and BT (I did not turn off 3G), and saw the warning for 20% remaining battery about 4 hours into the course. However, I was able to finish the course in 5 hours and the phone was still active.
There appears a slight lag, ~5 seconds in average, before the gps locks at each new arrival point. I cannot vouch for the distance accuracy that was described in the previous review, because I did not carry other range finders. However, the readings agreed with the course marks every time I looked at them. In one hole, the reading showed only the distance to the hazard (pond) in front of the green from the fairway, and not the distances to the green. I briefly tried to look for the latter by pressing several icons, but couldn't figure out how to do it. As I walked by the pond, the distance to the green showed up.
I was in the market for rangefinders, so I had looked into upro. With its pro mode, it claims to offer features that no other range finders do. On the flip side, it is a $400 hardware plus fees for each course download, and more costs for accessories (car charger and so on). Right now, I am very happy with one-time $35 Greenfinder.
