....."Think about it. A decline in market share means doesn't necessarily mean anything, too many variables"....

It is thinking like this which amazes those of us in a corporate environment.... Market share is everything! Geez! This is what will always hold apple back.
"Switch" is a joke for medium and big business... I LOVE my mac... for creative endeavors. But you need a PC in the corporate world. Once you have both, you will be happy.

Have you ever seen so much excitement since apple's can run Windows? It seems like the Mac faithful also think you need both - but they won't admit it.

I was never happy wihtout a mac, and I cannot live without a PC

Too bad wmv is pretty much the web standard.

... yes it is.
WEB STANDARD...? Um noo HTML is a web standard, there is no video player "standard" for the web. People use WMA's becasue the dont know how to convert there video into something that "everyone" can use including people who take that WMP garbage off of their PC becasue that is truly what windows media player is ... garbage.

No to get too much off topic but Quicktime is 100% garbage on Windows and slightly annoying on OS X. I prefer WMP on Windows and it's not too bad on OS X, I think.

Well, don't know about the rest of you guys, but my MacBook works just fine here in a "corporate" environment.

Then again, I don't allow any proprietary crap onto my network, or that of my clients.

There is no .asp, there is .php. No .Net, instead AJAX and Ruby. No Windows Networking, we have WebDAV and ftp. Media is developed in HD, and moved to mp4/h.264. It plays under Windows media, quicktime, vlc and others, and works without problem with most editing/playback software, regarless of platform.

Yes, I'm sure I have lost out on some "feature" over the years, but I am largely unaffected by upgrade pricing, licensing, format wars and platform lock-ins. The price for selling out for a "feature" or 2 is much higher than making a stand against crappy software in the long run.

If I want to move my business to linux tomorrow..... I can. Or all windows machines. Or OSX. Hell, a BeOS box would be able to integrate into most of the company systems.

The companies we interact with can still view/edit our stuff with their platform, cause of the open standard. If they cant/wont.... then there is someone else who can supply what I want.

Its about redundancy.

It's about making sure that a company never backs you into a corner and limits your choices.

Its about not swallowing a buggy piece of **** because you want things easy.

Its your choice to buy the crappy WMV format stuff. Find another company with MPEG/standardised content.

Be aware though that if in 5 years the market changes and windows is not as popular, or MS declare WMV dead, or Blu-ray loses the format war, or any of a million other things, all your locked in proprietary content will be utterly worthless.

Maybe that matters to you, maybe not.

Demand the good stuff, the standard stuff now, or have the easy option shoved down your throat forevermore.......

Yeah quicktime is a pain in Windows... ok so what I cant speak for everyone but its not that bad on OS X, I find it very simple and easy to use. Where as I found WMP a pain on Microsoft XP now wait lets think they make the OS and the crappy media player... hmmm. And good for the last guy below me or above depending on how u look at it good for his comapny. WMP is a pain and windows needs to realize that they need simple!!! I dont want 20000 different stupid features. Just like with my cell I want it to call and thats it. Ughhh winodow$ is a fine OS but makes crappy everything else other then Office. How pathetic that they are actually charging customers for a Virus/ Spyware/Adware protection program, it is a problem with their OS and if they know the problems and can block them then just fix the damn OS. Come on that is so crule to hit up customers for more money with inherent flaws in their OS that they are going to charge you more for to block.. Ugh .....
