In my humble opinion if you're going to be paying that much for a device, keep it with you at all times. We now live in a day and age where you seriously cannot trust anyone with anything. Sad really.

thanks all for the interesting replies! i know i was stupid to leave it, yes, but thanks for those that sympathise also!

i left it on the reception where i was working yesterday, BEHIND reception, although my place of work it was still stupid of me!

i have a passcode on it, wasn't able to complete the remote wipe, but i don't think they'll have much luck without a passcode either though will they? i hope not!

thanks once again for replies x

Anyone who leaves their iPhone and goes somewhere else doesn't deserve it anyway. That was incredibly stupid of you.

Though that's a harsh way of putting it, I'm afraid I must agree. You can't leave a stupidly expensive and very well-known device in a public place unattended and expect nothing to happen to it.

The guy found an iPhone left there, I mean if I found an iPhone and it's owner wasn't there I would have taken it too! Of course I would then call back to return it, but I already have one and I can know how it feels to lose it but for someone who doesn't have one it's tempting to keep it!

It's not like he picked it from his pocket...

Again, I must also agree with this.

Friend of mine left his laptop unattended in a student lounge, setup and plugged in on a table.

Went to the bathroom and whatnot...a guy came, scooped up the laptop and his bag and walked off. Saw a clear shot of him on camera, never caught the guy. Uberpwned.

It was kinda dumb that you left it there in the first place, but I'm sure you learned your lesson. I'm sorry for what happened. I'm sure I would be pissed off as well.

I can't believe how many of you think this is the OP's fault. Listen - it's always the thief's fault - ALWAYS. Doesn't matter if the OP left it out with a sign saying "I won't be back for an hour;" that doesn't give someone the right to steal it.

Now, separate and apart from that, I wouldn't recommend leaving an expensive and easily concealable item unattended in public. But the thief is still the guilty party.

I feel you on that one. I dont even leave my phone on my desk while i walk to the fax machine 15' away.

That Was Stupid

As said so many times but why would you leave a phone lying out and not expect anyone not to steel it. Might as well put free phone on the tablet. You should be mad at yourself, and your insurance shouldnt even cover it for such a dumb move on your behalf. Yeah you lost your phone and now you gotta get it replaced. I hope you learned a lesson in all this and also to all reading this DO NOT LEAVE YOUR STUFF LAYING AROUND~~~

I think it would help if a few more people would chime in and tell the OP how stupid he was. That seems very productive and helpful.

Wow. Just wow.

Do you also think it's OK to take people's lunches out of the fridge at work if they aren't around? Stuff from their desks, perhaps? Under what circumstances would you leave someone else's property alone if you happened on it and they weren't there?

Funny, people are mentioning we live in a day and age where you can't trust anyone... I supposed the Roman Empire would be a nice place to return to where you would just be stabbed to death or have your bowls sliced open for personal belongings. The value of life has greatly improved over the centuries, as far as valuable belongings being taken without permission? This has always existed and is not something new to our modern age. The reality of fallen humanity.

Statements like these have no substance and no concept of life in the past.

is this what you are looking for?

Wow, this forum can be really harsh sometimes...

I think beyond the fact that you shouldn't leave an iPhone unattended like that, I think it is a sad thing where we have to be on constant guard against donkey-orifices who think it is OK to appropriate something that doesn't belong to them just because they can. I agree with the other poster that things are relatively better when compare to Roman times, or even closer to the Wild West, but still, how far are we from Gene's vision???

To the OP, sorry this happened to you. Next time, don't do that. :D
