Just to give you how aggressively samsung is on oreo they have put out.
Cra1
Cra5
Cra9
And now another final build that people think is the 100% final release build
CrAB

Samsung has pushed 4 final builds and 3 betas in between those in the past 10 days.

They are trying to get it rock solid and out to the public.

And when I say final builds the crax builds are ota builds that install over official software and dont say beta when loaded even though they technically are still betas as they had 4 of them in the past week

I disagree.....I think Google should have more control over Android updates...including security patches.

I agree with the need for mandatory, vendor-independent security patches, but it's not necessarily feasible with customized Android versions. I've felt fairly limited when looking for a mid tier Android, because reliable maintenance updates and OS upgrades are surprisingly rare in that price segment (and likely worse with entry level devices), just like devices with vanilla Android, which are the ones that typically get security updates quickly (or at all). I settled for Nokia (HMD Global) because their phones do get security patches every month. There's not much choice, though.

On the other hand, the user should have the option of staying with an older version of the OS if the newer (or newest) one isn't a good match for the device (performance issues, battery problems, etc). Not everyone is buying a new phone every year or even every other year. Most probably don't. Plenty of people also can't afford $800+ phones, or don't need them, which leaves them with low spec devices that work better with older Android versions.

Security updates are important, but major OS releases aren't. They are fun and exciting, especially for geeky folks like most of us who hang out at a forum like this one, but they aren't essential.
