Yeah, I think the GT 130 is a 9600m. As for which is better, the 4850 is leagues better than the stock GPU on the high-end 24".

I have searched through a few news on hardware websites and they say that the gt 130 is either a 9600gs or 9600gt.
the ati 4850 should give you enough power to play all current games if someone is searching for that.

Well I am coming from the 7600GT generation here (2.13 C2D) so I am looking to do the biggest upgrade I can.

It appears the 4850 stomps the gt150

Well ANY thing with the 4850 takes four to six weeks to ship :(

But the GT 130 is definitely better than the previous gen?

Depends what you plan on using them for if you guy s mean GT 130 as in the G94 (9600GT).

The 8800GT and 9600GT are along the same levels and both G92 and G94 support PureVideo with the 9600GT having an updated version of it. Both preform nearly identical so you should go with whichever is the cheapest.

The 4850 will be faster than both of them, but I'm not sure if it has the same feature as hardware assisted decoding of the H.246 and VC-1 codecs.

From ATI.com
ATI Avivo™ HD Video and Display Platform6
Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD 2) for H.264/AVC, VC-1, and MPEG-2 video formats
High definition (HD) playback of Blu-ray and HD DVD video
Dual stream (HD+SD) playback support
DirectX Video Acceleration 1.0 & 2.0 support
Support for BD-Live certified applications
Hardware DivX and MPEG-1 video decode acceleration
Accelerated video transcoding & encoding for H.264 and MPEG-2 formats

So basically the 4850 does have full hardware decoding acceleration fro H.264 and other codecs

I'm going for the ATI card when i get a couple extra hundred quid ready

The 8800GS > the GT 130. Hate the NV marketing BS. The 4850 > both though, not even close.

Definately the 4850!

What do you guys recommend for someone that does graphics design work and alittle video editing.

GT 130 or the ATI HD4850?

I don't think it will matter. Do either of those programs benefit from one chipset or the other?

The question is: is the 4850 really some gimped mobility version? How are we supposed to know? Apple makes these decisions impossible sometimes.

Guess I'd better wait for a test by BareFeats before I decide (and buy).

The GT130 is just a rebadged 9x series card. Not sure which one, because at this point, Nvidia has rebadged the G92 cards 2-3x already, which is downright ridiculous.

Go with the 4850 though - it will be faster across the board, and in newer games, by a lot (plus, ATI writes better drivers for Mac OS X)
