So this is what I'm looking at now without my titan x installed. I think that g-sync option you have is different between the cards. Not sure if i mentioned this ward is not flashed but I believe everyone else is in the same position. I'm going to try this whole remote thing with the iphone and see if I can access the settings once I install the Titan x. If i can't get this to work on High Sierra Im going to wipe this drive and try with el capitan. Let me know if you guys think I'm missing anything.

this is my driver: WebDriver-387.10.10.10.30.107
this is my cuda driver: cudadriver_396.64_macos

If anyone is in Brooklyn i'd be willing to offer a cash prize to get his thing working ;)

Did you setup remote control?

If yes, use that to check the following info, and see if there is anything can confirm the GTX TitanX is working.View attachment 763383View attachment 763384View attachment 763385View attachment 763386View attachment 763388

Unlock it, and select the Nvidia web driver. Should looks like this.

Yeah I have unlocked it and changed the setting to the web driver, at that point the problem im having is that the computer wants to instantly restart without the Titan X in the slot. Im going to try and hit "not now" select the web driver and then shutdown to install the card. Then if that doesn't work ill have to do the chrome remote thing. its got a lot of language that is confusing me on using the iphone to remote in.

again thank you for all your help. hoping this thing works out.

Don't worry about that, you SHOULD restart without the GTX TitanX. And just check if the web driver is correctly selected.

And then you can shut it down, and swap the graphic card.

On the next start up, the GTX TitanX should work as expected.

Man, Mac is really bugging out. I've selected this and restarted 3x and it shows that the recommended mac OS and not the Web Driver I keep selecting...

With the 5770 still there, I recommend a PRAM reset first, then try again.

If still no go, then use terminal command to set it.

Hmm I think Im not that knowledgeable with the terminal stuff. Where would I reset the Pram and then change the drivers like before?

Yes, with the 5770 when I restart it looks like it defaults to the MacOs driver and not the web driver. How would I reset the PRAM and then select the web drivers.

PRAM reset

1) Shutdown the Mac
2) Hold Command + Option + P + R
3) press the power button to start the Mac
4) Keep hold that four keys until you hear the 4th start up chirm

The system will continue boot to desktop after you release the key, and try to select web driver again.

Dude. THANK YOU for your help. We now Have another successful TITAN X up and running in a mid 2010 Mac Pro Tower. Time to install the Adobe CC and get this mofo cranking on some exports.

I think today my Titan X overheated and crashed out my system ;( I had to pull it out along with my cpu and let it cool. I tried a few restarts and it didn't sound good. I replaced it with my old stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB and got everything up and running. Had a ton of editing to do so I haven't been able to Put the Titan back in and see if it was just a heat issue. PS. Jsu because it looks cool since my last post I've been editing non stop with the cover OFF of my mac. Yesterday and today were the first days with the case closed... I think i'll have to keep this bad boy ope. if I want to play with the Titan X. Also not seeing any great advantages to a 12gb titan x... not helping my renders really. Other good news is that I put a (sonnet allegro) USB 3.1 C card in and it works great! Hopefully the card works. might sell it for something ATI ;(

Never had issues like that with my GTX Titan X (Maxwell), always with cover on.

How do you power the card? I'm using a 6-to-8 pin and one 6-to-6 pin power cable.

yeah i'm powering my card the exact same way... That card was HOTTT and so was the processor or shield that was under it. im currently running the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB with everything open, I've placed my hands in there to check temp and this card gets warm but nothing like how the titan was. So im looking at ways to add a fan or maybe save the titan and build a PC.

Sudden shutdown. It just overheated so I pulled the card out and the processor tray to cool down. I needed to finish some exports before a flight so i added my stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB back in and after about 30-1hr I slid the tray in and the computer fired back up. I've been back and just editing like crazy so i havent tested the Titan X again to see if the card itself fried or if the system just temp overheated.

I believe your card draw too much from one of the mini 6pin and cause the hard shutdown. That's nothing to do with overheating.

You should avoid power the 8pin via a single mini 6pin, that's not always work.

*Interesting, so maybe use the 6pin and then maybe draw power from an empty hard drive slot? Also this thing was extremely HOT thats why i think it was an overheating issue. Like I mentioned the cpu that sits under it was ALSO very VERY hot.

Im wondering If I should upgrade the 2.4 ghz processors to 3.4 or just try to build a pc with the titan x and use an i7 chip. are these dual macs still faster than the newer processors??

No, 8700k will definitely faster than dual X5690.

As long as you do it right, the 8700K can easily achieve ever 5GHz. Which let it has roughly the same multi core performance as dual X5690.

On the other side, the single core speed is effectively 2x faster than the X5690.

So, even though we just compare the raw power but not anything else, the 8700K still be faster in any aspect.

Since the new computer has much newer functions / architecture, which will also make the whole work flow faster.

For video work, a very obvious example is that we cannot use GPU hardware encoding in macOS. Even in Windows, depends on the situation, it's ability may still be bottleneck by the CPU speed (on cMP). And once move to 8700k, the bottleneck will be gone, with the hardware encoding (in Windows), which easily make the export time few times faster.

Reference Titan X should stay at about 85C when under 100% stress, CPU roughly the same (with the native fan profile).

Of course it will be very hot if you touch the heatsink. But this is somehow normal.

If you have two empty SATA ports, then you can use DUAL mini 6pin to power the single 8pin. And DUAL SATA port to power the single 6pin input.

If you don't have that. An easer way to power your card with only the mini 6pins are

DUAL mini 6pin -> single 8pin + single 8pin (FEMALE) -> dual 6+2 pin

With these two cables combination. Your Titan X will always draw power from both mini 6pins regardless it draw from the 6 or 8pin. In other word, the loading is always balanced between the two mini 6pin. Avoid over stress one of them and cause the hard shutdown.

I did that with my 1080Ti some time ago, it works really well.

You can see from my sig that I have a completely maxed out 5,1 MacPro with a Titan X. I use this mostly for Adobe CC 4K video editing/rendering/transcoding. The Titan mainly helps with maintaining a smooth timeline playback, and does speed up rendering. Just not as much as you think it would.

Where it really comes into play is transcoding, especially to any H.264 based codec, where Premiere can be very efficient with full multi-threaded use in combination with most of the GPU resources being used in the process.

Oh wow, I didn't think of a solution like this to balance the load on the two connectors. I've been using power from the 2 SATA ports to power the 6pin on the card.

So you've had 0 issues under heavy load with this? I've been wanting to reclaim these 2 SATA ports for some time and this sounds like a great solution. But I wonder if I should worry about adding 2 more drives to my Mac... its completely filled up already, with 4 WD black drives in there already, along with everything else in the PCI slots, maxed CPUs, RAM, etc.

No problem even run Furmark. I don’t think any real world loading can cause any issue.

EVGA power link will be an even better solution, because the capacitors inside can smoothen the power spike.

Interesting. EVGA Powerlink sounds like a great option.

So would I be able to use the current dual-6pin to 8pin cable I have and connect it to one of the Powerlink ports and leave the other one open? Or do I need to occupy both Powerlink ports by using 2 mini 6pins to 8pin cables?

Thanks for the suggestion. I might try this!

Dual mini 6pin -> 8pin -> powerlink -> Titan X is fine.
