GTX770 & GTX780 & Titan working in 10.8.3 using new Nvidia Web Driver

The Saints at Nvidia have given us another Golden Gift

GTX Titan now works in 10.8.3 !!!

I posted a drab little one line about this at Netkas a few days ago and nobody noticed so time to make a bigger fuss.

The story at Archintosh is a joke, and a bad one at that. But that's what happens when you repost news from April.

Here it is.

Still no OpenCl but apparently the CUDA-Z score is higher than they allowed their little numbers to count.

I have enabled PCIE 2.0 5.0GT/s in OSX and Windows.

Does this mean that a NEW MAC PRO will be announced at WWDC with a GTX Titan !!!!???!!!!

I doubt it.

The EFI for GTX680 has code for GK110, but that isn't as surprising as one might think (hope). The Quadro 4000 EFI specificially mentions GTX480, and the only one created was the one we did. (Thanks to Nvidia for writing those drivers and these)

Thanks for the update!

So installing the driver from the link below should enable the GTX Titan in 10.8.3?

Also, if the Titan drivers for some reason or another fail to be included in the final 10.8.4 update, would updating to 10.8.4 -- with the drivers in the link above installed from 10.8.3 -- theoretically break the Titan compatibility in 10.8.4?

On Windows, Nvidia Control Panel allows one to increase that 222+ double precision value to over 1,500 and Nvidia Precision X allows one to make that number so high that, like the single precision one, it becomes unrecognizable by the latest CUDA-z. Is there a control panel and/or a version of Precision X for the GTX 680 Mac Edition that can do the same for Mac users with Titans?

Hi, this is great, does this mean it is possible to run the Titan on a genuine mac pro, how did you do it? I have a quadro 4000, I installed new drivers, rebooted, etc, then inserted the Titan and get kernel panic... Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily....com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily...etc
I also tried 10.8.4 but I get also there kernel panic when I insert the Titan...
I could boot after I removed Extensions/NV* but the system report said "no kext loaded" for the titan card, so I tried some other kext (e.g. installing HWSensors) but now I get different kernel panic when inserting the GTX titan....
Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.driver.AppleSMC... dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamilY....

How did you power it? As in, how do you turn on external power? must be triggered.If it doesn't work with 10.8.3 web driver or 10.8.4 beta you have either a power issue or bad hardware. That simple

Hi MacVidCards. Any thoughts on my response (post #2) to you at the top? My concern is how Titan compatibility will be affected if NVIDIA's driver (in the link below) is overwritten by 10.8.4 Titan drivers or if 10.8.4 fails to include Titan drivers. I guess my confusion largely stems from the confusion about which "drivers" are generally the best to run for your NVIDIA GPU. NVIDIA or OS X graphics card drivers?

Currently I use the Web driver on GTX 680. Animations are smoother. Couple points higher in benches. Might change with 10.8.4 but I'm beta testing 10.8.4 on 8800GT not anything 'fast'. You can quickly change them whenever.
 
New fastest Mac Card

So I found a GTX770 in my hands so I plopped it in Mac Pro.

Working beautifully in 10.8.3 Web Drivers.

And faster than 680.

So, new King among cards that can be run in Mac Pro easily.

The TDP is 230 Watts, so with a minor downclocking will fit in Mac Pro power envelope. Even an optical drive cable can deliver 5 Watts if you don't want to down clock.

Next, EFI for this shouldn't be too difficult, the tricky part is flashing as Nvflash for DOS and WIndows don't support these yet.

Last night I flashed a 770 BIOS onto 680 and it ran, as a 680.

Anyhow, I am hopeful to announce a GTX770 EFI in very near future.

I have every reason to expect 10.8.4 Beta will support as well, but haven't checked yet. But certainly more reason to expect future support as a 770 is just a faster 680, first industry use of GDDR5 at 7Mhz, ups the memory bandwidth to a healthy 220 from the bogged-in-mud ;)680 which runs at 190.

Nice - I like the look of the 770. If there's nothing compelling released at WWDC, I will likely grab a 770 for my 09 Mac Pro...

Just to confirm - it will work WITHOUT extra power? How does one make use of the extra 5 watts of power from the spare optical bay?

Single precision floating point of 2.049 Tflop/s is excellent. GPGPU compute performance increases are leaving CPU performance increases in the blocks.

I'll do a more detailed post later.

The 680 didn't stay on top of the heap very long.

Guess I should take another swipe at GK110, I just get so cranky when things don't work out after 20 hours of trying.

Anyhow, New King of Mac EFI is GTX770, at least 5-10% faster than 680, but does require 10.8.3 with Web Drivers.

It 's a great news. Can we expect also an EFI ROM for the GTX 780 ? It's also based on GK110 so it's probably possible to add 680 GTX EFI string on GTX 780 ROM ?

In the title of this thread you stated that GTX 780 is working under 10.8.3 with Nvidia Web Drivers, does working mean that OpenCL is now working as well or just that it will boot and CUDA will run?

Thanks, it took a while to figure out, it was a power issue, some pin in a cable was broken, i. It is all up and running, and getting over a Tflop, unbelievable ...G.
 
Would the GTX 770 work in MacPro1,1 from 2007?

Is there any reason it may not work?
