Without speaking to any wants or desires, what do you think the lineup for the iPhone will be come this fall?

Currently it's:

- 32GB iPhone SE at $349
- 128GB iPhone SE at $449
- 32GB iPhone 6s at $449
- 128GB iPhone 6s at $549
- 32GB iPhone 6s Plus at $549
- 128GB iPhone 6s Plus at $649
- 32GB iPhone 7 at $549
- 128GB iPhone 7 at $649
- 32GB iPhone 7 Plus at $669
- 128GB iPhone 7 Plus at $769
- 64GB iPhone 8 at $699
- 256GB iPhone 8 at $849
- 64GB iPhone 8 Plus at $799
- 256GB iPhone 8 Plus at $949
- 64GB iPhone X at $999
- 256GB iPhone X at $1149

Given recent rumors and the above, my prediction is that the fall lineup will look something like this:

- 32GB (or 64GB) iPhone 7 or iPhone SE 2 at $349
- 128GB (or 256GB) iPhone 7 or iPhone SE 2 at $449
- 64GB iPhone 8 at $449
- 256GB iPhone 8 at $549
- 64GB iPhone 8 Plus at $549
- 128GB iPhone 8 Plus at $649
- 64GB 6.1" LCD iPhone X/Xs at $669
- 256GB 6.1" LCD iPhone X/Xs at $769
- 64GB (or 128GB) 5.8" OLED iPhone Xs/X-2 at $799
- 256GB (or 512GB) 5.8" OLED iPhone Xs/X-2 at $949
- 64GB (or 128GB) 6.5" OLED iPhone Xs/X-2 Plus at $899
- 256GB (or 512GB) 6.5" OLED iPhone Xs/X-2 Plus at $1049

Basically, to explain my prediction, let's assume the following:

1. Apple discontinues the iPhone SE and puts in its place either an iPhone SE 2 that is essentially a refreshed 4.7" iPhone 7 with either an A11 Bionic OR a rev B of the 4.7" iPhone 7 that lacks the repair-program-inducing issues that the current iteration of the 4.7" iPhone 7 is prone to. This ups the "smaller phone" size to 4.7" in the wake of the clear replacement of the 4.7" and 5.5" duo with the 5.8" 6.1" 6.5" trifecta, which, while likely met with some resistance, will probably be fine for most use cases. In any event, such a thing happening would confirm the rumors that the current 4.0" iPhone SE is getting discontinued AND that it's getting a successor without revealing a "new" phone, because it's basically another 4.7" iPhone 7

2. Apple moves the pricing of the 6.1" LCD iPhone X, Xs, X-2 or whatever it will be called to the current pricing of the iPhone 7 Plus models. This falls in line with previously rumored price-points for such a phone

3. Apple treats the 5.8" OLED iPhone similarly to the way it does the iPhone 8 Plus currently. This would represent a sizable price cut, but it would no longer be marketed as the flagship phone as that would then go to the 6.5" OLED iPhone which would still get a price cut of about $100 over what the iPhone X commands now. I suppose a $200 price cut for a second generation iPhone X would be seen as crazy, though not out of the realm of possibility and not unprecedented as far as iPhone history is concerned. Same argument for the 6.5" version being $100 less than what the 5.8" version commands now.

4. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus would be maintained running the A11 Bionic and be the representatives of the "previous gen" in the lineup.

1. iPhone SE drops to $299. (It already retails for less than $299 in some parts of the world.) The SE will continue to be a low-cost device intended for first time smartphone buyers.

2. iPhone 6s will take the $349/399 slot. Wistron in India is ramping this product.

3. iPhone 6.5” will start between $1,000 and $1,100.

4. iPhone 6.1 will start between $700 and $800 to replace iPhone 8 price slot.

You really think the iPhone 6s will stick around for a fourth year? Mind you, India often produces iPhones that the US has discontinued (happened with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5c). I could see the current iPhone SE sticking around for $300, though it would seriously hurt being three processor generations behind what will then presumably be the current. I could see 3 and 4 being true, despite it not being my stated prediction as the rumor mills have also stated that might be happening as well.

The rumors are saying that the SE & 6s are going to be discontinued. They may still sell it but not in major markets like the US.

The iPhone 6s remains extremely competitive against existing Samsung products like the Galaxy J7 and even S7. For customers who want to pay $10 to $15 per month, the iPhone 6s continues to make sense. An A9 and 2GB may sound slow, but WhatsApp, Facebook, and WeChat all run fine on it. It even supports ARKit.

By September 2018, even entry level smartphones have 5" displays. The SE is completely out of place given the landscape. But its $299 price would allow it to fight against Samsung J3.

The 6s and the SE will only be sold in international markets where apple needs to sell lower cost phones. The iPhone 7 could be sold in place of the SE and the 8&8 Plus can take over the 6s & 6s Plus since apple is going to introduce the 6.1 LCD model.

I'm not sure Apple needs to take a chainsaw to their iPhone pricing by cutting the iPhone 7 by $200. The price of the refurbished models would take an even greater hit. As the smartphone market matures, Apple can increase units sold by having an iPhone at every major price point.

That is true. But rumors are coming out saying apple is going to discontinue the SE.

The iPhone 6s actually will be on its third year, as it released in September 2015. I don’t believe Apple will be retaining the 6s in their lineup this fall. I think the SE will remain, but the 6S will not, and obviously you will have the choices with iPhone 7 and above.

No SE 2 is coming. iPhone 8 won't start that low. Neither will the iPhone X.

iPhone 8 will start at $550 or $600. iPhone 6.1" at $700. iPhone X2 at $900. iPhone X Plus at $1000.

Yes it will, if you look at the rumors and what industry annalists are saying. It may not be exactly like what the OP posted, but I would take a guess that apple has had one year of manufacturing the X under its belt, so they have improved efficiencies at the plants and can afford to make the base X a 100 less then what it currently sells for. Plus they will able to increase sales with a small price cut. For the X+ I could see them making the base model at 999 where the current X, as it would fit with their pricing model. I would not expect them to increase price on a "S" variant of the X & X+. There is no major hardware designs changing so they won't increase prices. For the 2019 model I could see them increasing it by a 100.00 or more.

I always thought the iPhone 6s would remain, personally, replacing the SE in the lineup

A9 is still very capable, the phone is even faster on iOS 12, very few differences form it to the 7 to the 8 (same design, touch ID 2, haptic engine...even if its first gen... 3D touch, 7000 aluminum, same resolution screen, 2GB LPDDR4 RAM, AR support, LTE-A, 12 mp rear shooter + 4k video etc)

6s, 7, 8 with their plus sizes
LCD, OLED, OLED Plus

Apple is not going to drop the iPhone 7 to the SE price slot, I just don't see that happening at all. Same with an SE 2 - They want the LCD model to sell, not a new cheaper phone. That would eat into sales

iPhone 6s = Poverty Edition

I dunno man, it's still a premium feeling device. Feels fantastic in the hand. 7000 series aluminum, same as the iPhone 7. A9 still outperforms most mid-tier Androids, its still speedy. Never has a "low level" iPhone had a completely competent, completely capable chip until this past year.

I could see Apple keeping it around. The only way they wouldn't, imo, is if it's too expensive to produce for the lower margins. The SE can be sold cheap, because the parts are cheaper and Apple cut out little things in the design process from the 5s/5 (like not chamfering the edges, reusing the same front panel and front camera, reusing the same touch ID sensor) etc which kept the price down...but maybe the 6s would be more expensive? Just my own postulation.

Don't the rumours suggest the LCD model is taking the 8 price point? That would suggest the 8 would take the 7's price, and the 7 would take the 6s's price, and perhaps the 6s would take the SE's price...potentially. That is how it has happened every other year, the new flagship takes the new flagship price with the previous flagship going down 100 USD

It makes more business sense to keep the SE. Same price point as it currently is, different screen size option, cheaper to manufacture, similar "benefits" of the 6s (in terms of power, 4k + AR capability)

I could see that for sure.

I have also tossed around them keeping the 6s, replacing the SE as well. It's a bit older in the market so possibly not, but it would have 3 phones of the older design in the lower price range, and 3 phones of the newer design in the higher price range

But it might be too convoluted to keep it around.

Ya i think they will dump the 6s and move the 7 to the 6s space and move the 8 to the 7 place and keep the Se as is until they decide to update it or discontune it.

You disagreed and then repeated two prices I had just written already. Work on your reading comprehension.

Ya i made a mistake. I guess I disagree with others but agree with my self. But you are right about the price points. I was too quick on the draw.

You read here first.

iPhone SE 32 GB
$349
+$100 for 128 GB

iPhone 7 32 GB $449 | iPhone 7 Plus 32 GB | $569
+$100 for 128 GB

iPhone 8 64 GB $599 | iPhone 8 Plus 64 GB $699
+$150 for 256 GB, maybe even just +$100

iPhone 6.1” 64 GB - $699 plus +$150 for 256 GB

iPhone 5.8” 64 GB $899 plus +$150 for 256 GB

iPhone 6.5” 64 GB $999 plus +$150 for 256 GB.

Apple still sell the iPhone 6 brand new (through third party retailers only) so I’d not be at all surprised if the 6s stuck around in this fashion. It is likely to disappear from their stores and website though.

Without reading this thread, I heard the rumors are Apple is ditching OLED.

OLED seems to be a temporary movement until the Micro-LED reality is ready to surface. Now when that timeframe of micro LED will be an actual reality? No one really knows. OLED is not new technology, I think Micro-LED reality has more promising features like assisting in extended battery light with significant less power draw and is considerably brighter over OLED. If I had to guess, I would say the earliest will be 2020 when we see Micro-LED.

It’s wishful thinking if you think Apple will ship MicroLED iPhones in less than 5-10 yrs from now.

Apple would shift the refurbs to be iPhone 8 models just as it shifted them to be iPhone 7 models this year. Also a $200 shift isn't unheard of, especially when it comes to iPhones.

If you look at the front page, that rumor has been updated.

It wasn't updated to say anything other than there won't be an iPhone SE 2. It spoke nothing of a potential discontinuation or not.

September 2015 to 2016 - Year 1
September 2016 to 2017 - Year 2
September 2017 to 2018 - Year 3
September 2018 to 2019 - Year 4

Fourth year.

Without reading this thread, I heard the rumors are Apple is ditching OLED.

Literally every rumor on this site about 2018 iPhones suggests otherwise.
