I think the overall strategy is the new iPad Mini will take over the current regular iPad 9.7’s price point and the updated regular iPad 10 will be bumped up a few hundreds.

You’re probably right. Although i hope it’s the opposite. Keep the regular ipad the low cost one, and give the mini an ipad pro flat edged industrial design. How cool would it be to have an ipad mini with face ID, usb-c, apple pencil 2 support with an 8.5” screen and slimmer bezels in the same size as the previous ipad! That’d be sooo sweet.

My opinion:
At worst, an ipad mini 3 case and screen, A10 2gb ram, same 128gb wifi at 399 usd. Basically a lateral move that will keep it afloat.
At best, same ipad mini 4 case and screen, A12 4gb ram, quad speakers, pencil 1 support, 64gb wifi at 399, lte at 449, 256gb for 100 more.

I’m leaning toward worst.

I really hope they don't release it with only 2gb of ram. I love the mini but I want an updated version with 3gb of ram and updated chipset. Even if they do not redesign it otherwise. Their lack of announcement on whether or not it is coming is bothersome though.

Budget Mini, $399 for 32GB, $499 for 128GB and $599;for 256GB.

Mini Pro, $799 for 64GB, $899 for 256GB, $999 for 512GB with 5GB RAM.

I’m thinking regular A12, 3Gb RAM, Apple Pencil support, same design as before $50 cheaper than standard iPad.

Ofc, there is a chance they do a “mini pro” and have a new Face ID based design but I doubt it.

They will not announce it before the keynote. With the exception of Mac Pro and a new display, they never announce anything before their events. So, it’s not indicative of anything, really.

I sure hope it is your "at best"

Pricing the new mini MORE than the 2019 iPad? This will be something else.

And I totally expect it from Apple.

My guess is the Mini 5 will get a A12 SOC, 2 GB RAM, same screen as Mini 4, TouchID only (no FaceID) and will come in 32 GB and 128 GB configurations only, at a price point that is around $20 to $30 cheaper than the 2018 iPad.

I’m largely of the same opinion only I think they will use the mini 3 chassis (slightly thicker with a non laminated display) in the same way they used the iPad Air as the base for the new 9.7” iPads, not the Air 2.

Given Apple's recent approach I fear that they will do the bare minimum (design/spec) and disproportionately increase the price. I personally don't see the iPad Mini as necessarily budget; I have bought it in the past solely for it's size. I used to carry it around everywhere, and it doubled as a kindle. The Pro models are just too big for what I use it for. I would love an iPad Mini with a laminated screen, decent processor and face ID with the same design language as the Pro (and would happily pay a reasonable price for it). I think I am going to be disappointed.

I need a new iPad instead of my iPad Air 2
It’s going down.

I hope, I really hope, iPad Mini would be bezelless. I would buy it in an instant.
I don’t want to buy a new bigger iPad with bezels either.
And I don’t need a Pro.
Ah well. If it will comes a iPad Mini Pro, I might :)
Please Apple don’t keep those bezel iPads. They’re outgrown.

I hope it uses either the pen 1 or pen 2 (2 is preferred). This would be a good note tablet to use in meetings etc. with OneNote or Notes. That's all I would use it for. My current mini is just a resource for Logic Pro Remote where I use it for shortcuts

I can’t imagine anything “budget” is gonna use the 2nd gen pencil. That just doesn’t seem to be the way Apple operates.

Frankly, I would just like it to be pretty basic, and have a lower price tag, like maybe $249 for a 32 gig with the regular iPad at $329. I think pencil support would be nice because the mini is a great size for kids, and it would be nice to be able to get the Logitech crayon to use with it.
