Just unlocked my week 40 virgin 1.1.1 with this method, running Fido in Canada. Jon, your guide was great. One suggestion though - Part 3 is useless. Jailbreak is done while activating, so there's no need to jailbreak twice.

Glad that it was helpful! It seems like there have been a couple people that have all been succesful using it. As for the jailbreaking, I was just follwing the guide in the jailbreak help menu there. I never bothered to check it.

Hi as I said in my previous post the unlock etc seemed to run just fine. Only now I am getting a lot of crashes and lockups on the phone. Frankly its bailing out of apps and back to the menu a lot. I am wondering if it has anything to do with running v1.1.1 on the phone with anySim. I am thinking of downgrading to v1.0.2 and seeing if that is any help. Just wondering if my phone itself might be faulty of if something I have done with it is a problem?

anyone have any advice ideas or similar problems ?

also will downgrading back to v1.0.2 brick my phone ?

am keen to get on top of all thins as I love the phone but not happy with the crashes !

Hi all,

just wondering is there any way to do it from v1.1.1 with anySim WITHOUT having to downgrade back to v1.0.2 ?

Hi all,

just wondering is there any way to do it from v1.1.1 with anySim WITHOUT having to downgrade back to v1.0.2 ?

i think you can

first jailbreak your 1.1.1 here

after you got SSH installed when you jailbreak 1.1.1
you can go ahead and unlock it here

i think it's a lot safer not to mess with downgrading baseband..
coz i bricked mine

I do all of your steps, and everything is correct but when i try to unlock it with AnySim, it says to me that my firmware is already patched and it quits .. What should i do ??

I have followed all the steps but when I get to the "Update your iPhone with Itunes" I have a problem because Itunes tries to download 1.1.2 and will not allow to update using 1.1.1 instead.

I know that I can do control restore to select which firmware to use to restore, but I can't select with which version I want to update.

How can I solve this issue. Basically, how can I select which firmware I want to use to update?

Thanks

Alright so I have Cingular. I followed the instruction up to number 4... so I didn't update to 1.1.1. I still have 1.0.2. But the whole process seemed waaaay too easy :p i didn't have to continue to install the AnySim. (i did install SSH because I thought it would come in handy later.

Anyway, because it was so easy does cingular know I have an iPhone now?
the reason I wanted to do this was so my family plan didn't change at all. I just updated the 3 phones to unlimited texted and granted i could've went the legit way and paid 20, 30 or 40 more a month I'd rather not. So my concern/question is - did I do it correctly so nothing will reflect on my billing cycle? it was more or less like taking any other SIM compatible phone and putting my card in right?

thanks alot guys great write up

Alternative Method

Just to confirm this guide works fine with iPhones in Australia. It is a bit nerve racking and takes a while but seems to work ok.

I seriously recommend going to iNdependence and removing the anysim app once it is done to prevent any idiot who picks up your phone making a mess of it.

Free the iPhone !

I can second this...but via a different route found here...

Had an unlocked 1.0.2 via Anysim and the whole process took 10 mins tops no code necessary. Easiest method I have spied so far. Phone still works like a charm

same problem as above... where can i find the 1.1.1 update? iTunes prompts the 1.1.2 update.

Guide to Activate/Jailbreak/Unlock (anySIM) a 1.1.1 phone (Tested)

Throughout the process I used the SIM card I intended to use after unlocking (I immediately took out the AT&T card)

So then from the start put the SIM you want to use in it? Do you EVER have to have an AT&T card in if the phone is new and never had one in?

Thanks
