Just out of curiosity, what does Darwin look like on x86?
darwin is just the freeBSD based part of osx. darwin is what you see when you open up a terminal window. darwin on a pc looks just like any other linux/bsd distribution, it does not come with any kind of gui or frameworks.

Sound like it is just a Linux GUI wrapper that imatates OS X.

Ditto. The key phrase is:

...before this I used WindowsBlinds...

This is not a case of someone being hyper intelligent and de/recompiling OSX to run on an x86 machine. In fact, this is the opposite of that, it's someone too stupid to know/articulate the difference between OSX and a window manager theme that looks like OSX.

Quite the same as on Mac OS X, I guess. About as sexy as command-line only Linux. :)

If you want to get an impression of it, next time you boot up, try Superuser mode (forgot the key combination -- Cmd-S?).

Just another possibility, it could be something like OpenStep (or GNUStep), modified to emulate the OSX look 'n' feel. That shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Mike.

From my understanding, Darwin is BSD 5.0 + Mach microkernal + the various frameworks and APIs + a sprinkling of Aqua/QE/QT, etc. It's a nice Unix, but it definitely wouldn't get the typical Windows user anywhere besides looking at a black screen with a lot of white text with a nifty "Welcome to Darwin!" greeting. :) I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for the person to do what was already stated, as far as using a simple Aqua look theme for Linux or XP to get it looking kind of like OS X.

I totally forgot I'd posted this.... apologies guys...

Okay then, I saw a post on the News Today website from what I presume is just some joe like you find here on MR...

http://www.newstoday.com/

If you go to the 'The Public Voice' section and click back a few of pages (they move quickly over there!heh!) using the 'previous' button at the bottom of 'The Public Voice' section, you come to a thread titled 'Windows XP' and that's where I came across the post that I added at the start of this thread...

Now some people replying to the News Today thread have suggested this guy means some kind of naff OSX skin, yet his post seems quite adament that he's running OSX on his PC, as does another reply suggesting indeed some people have got OSX running on a PC.

Personally I don't believe it, but then I don't understand the amount of work that would be required to get OSX running, even roughly on a PC...

Well you should all visit News Today, find the thread and post and find out what tis' going on.

I just thought this would be interesting to you all, as I'd heard about Apple and Marklar, but didn't think copies had leaked just yet...
